The Flying Ring… Part 1/North Vancouver

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I had a call for a lost ring the other day and when I talked to the young man he told me that he gave his ring to his step son and he lost it in this field.
We met at the field and he showed me the area that he figured it might be lost in, I told him it might take a while so if he wanted to go home I’d call him when I found the ring. I started my search and after an 1 1/2 I had no ring. I felt I did a good grid search and I called to ask if he could come down with his son so he could show me the area he was playing in.

About ten minutes later his wife shows up with their son and I was thinking great now I can get a better idea of the area. His wife told me straight out that it had nothing to do with her son, she told me her husband threw it away…

No judgment as this happens a lot and he isn’t the first and won’t be the last to get mad and throw a ring! This however changed everything as the ring could have gone a long way…

I spent another hour or more and didn’t find the ring but I will be back to finish up the search. The chances of finding the ring will be better if I can get the young man to come to the field and throw a test ring so I can gage the distance it traveled.

I’ll keep you posted with part 2 of the flying ring soon!

Thanks for reading my stories.

I love my job!

Metal Detecting for Saint Christopher/English Bay Beach/Vancouver

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I was at work last week and I got a call from a lady that told me her son lost his silver chain with a cross and Saint Christopher medallion on it.

She tells me that her son lost it at English Bay Beach in Vancouver by a log, he took it off and put it on his blanket and when he was ready to head home he shook the sand off his blanket and off went the chain.

The young man was more then half way home on the bus when he realized what he had done! He was devastated and when he got home he told his mother what happened. She went on line where she found my service and called me, we talked and she told me the story.

The thing was she called me on Thursday and her son lost it on a Monday, I was sure that someone had found it as most treasure hunter search the logs first. I told her to register the loss on my website and I’d call a few treasure hunters to see if anyone found it.

By Sunday and a few searches later I’d picked up the Newspaper and checked the lost column to see the add about a lost silver chain at English Bay Beach. I called and asked the lady why she didn’t register the loss on my website and she said her son forgot to do that. I told her that I’d go out to the beach and take a look but I told her our chances didn’t look good.

I talked to her son that afternoon and he told me where and how to get to the log he was sitting at, I found the area and from what he told me I figured that I was at the right log.

I turned on my detector and the very first signal was his silver chain and cross & Saint Christopher! I was amazed!! The luck was with us that day and I learned later that the Saint Christopher medallion was given to him by his late Grandmother, it meant the world to him…

Metal Detecting Vancouver Beach for Hong Kong Gold Wedding Band

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

Last week I received a call from the Lifeguards at Spanish Banks Beach in Vancouver, they had a young couple from Hong Kong that couldn’t speak very good English and needed my Ring Finders Service.

I jumped into my car and headed to the beach to meet and help them find what they had lost. When I arrived and met Eugene and his wife I thought I was looking for her lost ring but after talking a while I figured out it was his 24k yellow gold wedding band.

He explains that he was swimming and on the second stroke not far from shore he felt the ring come off his finger. The only problem was both Eugene and his wife wasn’t 100% sure where he was in the water…This makes the search hard and I spent close to 3 hours in chest deep water doing a grid search, they both felt it was from the spot they showed me and west down the beach. I didn’t find the ring that evening and I couldn’t return until the next weekend at low tide.

When I arrived at the beach on the following Saturday I started my grid search of the same area but this time the tide was out and the grid search was much easier!
I searched in the rain and extend my grid west down the beach and no ring!

I wasn’t sure if Eugene and his wife might have came back the next day and found the ring, I emailed him twice but never heard back. This plays in the back of your mind when you can’t find what you’re looking for…

My instinctskicked in and I went against the flow and headed in the opposite direction and 30 + yards from my start point I found his beautiful 24k gold wedding band! This was no where near where they showed me but my thoughts are there is a ring out there…Find it!

I spotted the ring before my metal detector went over it and it was only half buried into the sand, the sand is very hard packed in this area of the beach and after 6 days of high & low tides it was still visible to the eye.

What I thought was about 1 1/2 hours of searching turned out to be 3 hours, in total for the two searches it took me close to 5 1/2 hours to find this ring…

Ring Testimonial…

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

I lost my wedding band over a month ago now and I was quite disappointed to say the least. I’ve never taken my ring off except for a few hours to do odd chores around the house for the last 10 years. After losing the ring, it felt like I lost a part of me. So I started scouring « lost and found » ads in the paper and craigslist hoping to find my ring. And this is how I found Chris Turner, on Craigslist, offering his service to find lost jewelry for people. So I contacted Chris, told him where, when and how I lost it. He said he’ll try to look for it but there won’t be any guarantee. I resigned to the fact that he won’t find it since it’s been lost in the lake for at least 3 weeks after calling him. But lo and behold, one beautiful Saturday morning he gives me a call to let me know he found it!!!! They say miracles don’t happen but it did, Chris happened. I want to take this opportunity to say thanks to you again buddy. Big Thanks!!!

Regards,

Jason

Metal Detecting Lake Gold in Golden Ears Park

  • from Vancouver (British Columbia, Canada)

Last week I received an email from Jason and he told me the story about his lost ring in Alouette lake in Maple Ridge. I was excited to search for the ring until he told me it was lost for over a month.

I knew this would be a difficult search due to the time the ring was lost and because lots of people search lakes. I was going to meet up on Saturday so Jason could show me the exact location but he had to work that day.

I had a few searches on Sunday so I told him that I’d go on Saturday and take a look. We discussed the search area and Jason gave me a good idea of the area it could be lost in, so off I went.

I got there early morning and I was surprised to see how big the lake was! I started my grid search and I was closing in on 4 hours and no ring.

I expanded my search to deeper water and just a few minutes past the 4 hour mark I received a good signal and in my sand scoop was a white gold ring! Was it his? He told me that the ring had his name and his wife’s name and the date they got married. I looked in the inside of the band and I saw writing and the name  »Jason »

I was so excited that I found the ring! In this big lake finding a small ring is like finding a needle in a haystack.

I called Jason and he was delighted! We met the next day and he got his ring back…It was great meeting you and your family Jason!
