*** Dave and his wife were at Crystal Cove State Beach which is in Newport Beach, CA. His wife lost an hierloom gold ring playing in waist deep surf. He contacted me by text asking for help. I was able to get the location of the loss using text photos as Dave could not meet me at the location.

The first attempt was the day after the loss. It was a “no find” because the tide wasn’t low enough to allow me to get far out. The minus low tides were happening at early am hours and the main park is closed at 10pm. Conditions of the sand looked favorable but I would have to wait 4 days for the best tides. I had to walk in almost 2 miles at 1:30am.

It was a very dark night with no moon but I had a feeling that if the ring was still there, I had a good chance to find it. This was going to be a one time search. Can’t hike in two miles very many times. Anyway, I did a 45 minute grid search and the ring showed up 30’ to 40ft. outside the search zone only about 4 inches deep. 

Dave met me the next day where I was able to give him the ring. He had not told his wife, so he was going to surprise her that evening.  As always, it was a pleasure to help Dave and his wife to find a sentimental keepsake like this awesome gold ring that spent 4 days hiding under the sand in the Pacific Ocean.

***  Maria found my contact information on the internet a day after her white gold and diamond wedding ring slipped off her finger into the surf. She had taken her young son for his first time at the ocean. While holding him in shin deep water her ring slowly came off her finger. She couldn’t let go of her son to retrieve the ring as the next wave washed the ring out of sight.

The loss occurred at a high tide but this SoCal beach is one place that can pull a ring down into a deep trough of cobble stones. I made arrangements to meet Maria just a little after noon which is the best low tide.

When I arrived Maria her mother and sisters were all at the site. She had good landmarks that helped make this a successful search. I began my grid search approximately 20 feet below where she dropped the ring. Working up the slope to where she said the loss happened. I got the perfect white gold signal exactly where she said it dropped. The ring had not moved from that spot all night with two high tides. 

The whole family was excited as were several of the beach goers that witnessed the recovery. This never gets old for me, it’s great to see the joy and feel the gratitude from the  people I’m able to help.

*** Nick was skimboarding in a cove at Laguna Beach, CA. when his gold wedding band came off his finger and disappeared into the surf. Skimboarding is a board sport performed on the steep wet sandy slope in shallow surf as the wave recedes. This would give us a good chance to find the ring at the next low tide.

Nick had questioned me about his chances to find the ring if he took a rented metal detector to search for it himself. He felt it couldn’t be that difficult to use a metal detector. I explained to him that rental metal detectors are usually effective in salt water sand. Also, it is not practical to learn how to operate a metal detector while trying to find something as important as his wedding ring.

I made arrangements with Nick and his wife Ami to meet me at the location. I had a simple pulse induction metal detector that I could let him use while the both of us searched the 12:30am low tide. I even had an extra sand scoop that is important if you are trying to retrieve a target.

After giving Nick and Ami a quick lesson, we took off on our separate grid searches. I could see them struggle when they had to dig the few targets they did find. Nick did learn that the metal detector was not so easy learn. After about 40 minutes  my detector got a great signal outside the zone that Nick believed his loss had  happened. 

When I scooped the ring they were 100 feet from me. Walking back to the couple , I asked Nick if he thought the ring could be further out. Then I held the scoop with his ring in it for him to see. He and Ami were amazed and gave me the “Oh My God “ salute. They are a beautiful couple. It was a pleasure to help them out.

Surfer Loses Sentimental Silver Necklace at San Clemente Pier, Orange County, CA… Found and Returned Next Day

* Nick was surfing at San Clemente Pier in South Orange County, CA.   He put his silver necklace into the pocket of his tee shirt setting it with his other belongings near his towel. After surfing he picked up his clothes to walk over to the showers about 50 yards away. 

When he returned to his vehicle he realized that his necklace was missing. His attempt to find it as unsuccessful. He couldn’t return the next day to search as he was working more than 100 miles from San Clemente, CA.

I got a call from Nick just before 11am the next morning. When he gave me a good description of the area of his loss, I was a little concerned because this is the busiest part of the beach. I may have too many beach goers spread out over the search area. Also Sunday night and Monday morning this part of the beach gets hunted by recreational detectorists.

I made the drive to the San Clemente Pier arriving at noon. After an hour of grid searching with my Minelab Equinox metal detector I was able to get broken signal but I sensed it wasn’t trash. One scoop with my sifter produced Nick’s silver chain. He was able to meet me the next day to retrieve his special necklace.

There were several reasons I could have put off searching for this necklace. I’ve learned to not put off starting a search. Try to stay positive even if things are looking very discouraging. Nick was very happy and amazed that we put this thing together using the inter and a single phone call.

 …. Stender and his wife, Erin were at the Santa Monica Beach Club when he lost his gold wedding band in the sand. His wife Erin knew from a previous ring loss in Maui, Hawaii that there is a metal detecting services available online.

They Google searched metal detecting service and TheRingFinders came up. They called me, agreeing to stay at the location till I arrived. Sometimes it can take more time to find a parking spot than to drive to the location. They had arranged for me to parking in a private parking area which was a bonus for me.

I met them on the sand and it was a short search. The ring was only a few inches under the sand, less than 5 feet away from their beach chairs. They were very grateful for the help and it was a pleasure to help them. These searches are successful because they didn’t waste time trying to find it by hand. They called me in a timely manner. Stayed in the location and arranged for me get parking.

….  Sukhm had proposed to Banpreet at beautiful Laguna Beach, CA. beach. They had a photographer record the moment. The photographer suggested they set the engagement ring in the wet sand for a photo with them in the background. An unexpected wave came up and the ring disappeared below the sand. I’m posting a copy of Banpreet’s side of the story below.

My fiance had just finished his proposal to me and we were beginning to take pictures with my new ring. We were attempting to take a picture with the ring in the sand and as our photographer was focusing-in on the ring, a wave came and swept the ring away. Our photographer frantically began to dig around the area to look for the ring, and my fiance immediately jumped into the water. I followed him and we were both waist deep in the water, grabbing at anything that felt like it could be my ring but would only turn out to be shells and debri every time. 30 minutes passed and we still couldn’t find the ring, my worst nightmare was becoming a reality and as the sun began to set, I started to believe that my ring was gone forever. 

I called my brother and asked him what we should do and he googled Ring Finders and Stanley was the closest to our location. My brother contacted him and before he could hang up the phone, Stanley was already on his way to us. Stanley arrived quickly with all of his equipment and began searching the area. We watched as Stanley scanned over the area where we lost the ring. Within a minute he scooped up the sand, and nodded his head with a smile. My fiance jumped up and shouted « No way! » Stanley found our ring! We were overjoyed and both embraced Stanley. 

Stanley truly has a talent for locating valuables and allowed us to have our happy ending. He was very kind, professional and helpful. We will always remember how he helped us during one of the most stressful situations in our life. We highly recommend him to anyone who loses something valuable. Thank you Stanley!

…. Carlo and his wife were at Baby Beach in Dana Point, CA. It’s a calm little bay inside Dana Point Harbor. His wife was in waist deep water when two rings slipped off her finger. Carlo was able to visually find and recover one of the rings.

He knew it was a higher tide so they got a hotel room for the night and purchased a metal detector from a sporting goods store. He figured that he could find the ring at low tide the next morning. While trying to practice with the inexpensive metal detector he realized that he had no idea how to use the detector.

Carlo found me on a internet search asking me if I could meet him the next morning at Baby Beach. When I got to the location there was another detectorist at the other end of the beach. Right where Carlo showed me the general area of the loss, there were two dig holes. He was convinced that the ring had already been found. I suggested that Carlo ask the other guy if he had found a ring and the detectorist said he had not.

I began my grid pattern just as if no other detector had worked the area. After an hour the ring didn’t show up. Carlo was beginning to think the other guy may have found the ring. I try to not let that thinking interfere with my search. Things were not looking good and I was running out of search area. Even though the tide was very low I decided to go into the water. Ten minutes of gridding in knee deep water I got that special sound of gold in my earphones. One shallow dig with my sand scoop and I had the white gold and diamond wedding ring in the scoop.

Carlo is a big serious type guy, he just lit up with a big smile and gave me a big man hug. He had told me this was the “most important”of the two rings. I thought that I was looking for the engagement ring. He believed the wedding ring was the most important. For the next five or ten minutes he just kept taking photos of the ring and looking at it in a very special way. His wife was waiting at the room where he planned on surprising her when he returned.

*** Adam is a lifetime resident of Newport Beach, CA. He was playing football with friends on the beach when his platinum wedding ring slipped off his finger into the dry sand. He knew from past experiences that it was his chance to find it was almost impossible, so he didn’t waste time searching.

Adam got on the internet and found my information on TheRingFinders directory. I met him on the beach soon after he called. We were lucky that he had marked off the spot where the ring came off his finger. Searching a football field area can be challenging. A short grid search turned up Adam’s platinum wedding ring in the scoop. Adam had to meet a friend so he was able to make it to his appointment without a delay. 

Another successful recovery because he called in a timely manner and he had the general area marked out.

**** I received a call, asking for help to find a cellphone that was lost in the sand at Salt Creek Beach, Dana Point,CA. Saagar and his wife had driven from Los Angeles to enjoy the day day at the beach. All Los Angeles beaches were closed because of the pandemic.

The surf was very violent that day and they had set up their blanket and chairs back away from the wet sand. After a couple hours they were surprised by a rouge wave that came up to wash all their belongings all over the area. His cellphone phone couldn’t be found. It definitely had to be buried in the sand. 

This happened in the late evening, making it more difficult to search. The loss happened way up the high side of the beach, so the phone didn’t get pulled into the ocean. They returned the next morning to have a frustrating two hours of searching by dragging their fingers through the sand.

I was called and after having to park more than a mile away, I was able to walk to their location on the beach.  It didn’t take much time  to find the phone just outside the area they marked out for me. It was amazing how deep the phone had sunk into the fine soft sand. (Probably 4 to 5 inches deep)

It’s always interesting to see the surprised reaction of the people when they realize how close they were to finding their lost item. The important thing is the all important cellphone was found and still working.

***** Emil and his family had been at Santa Monica Beach in Southern California. The beach had been closed for a couple month and many people were taking advantage of getting out of the house after staying at home for such a long time. After returning home he realized that his Gold and Diamond ring was missing. He assumed the ring was lost at the beach. 

Emil’s family were set up on the dry sand near the waters edge. They didn’t go swimming but did have some active playing in knee deep surf. These were places the ring could be hiding. Emil was able to find me while he was researching how to find a ring in the sand on a google search. He called me early the next morning. We met on Santa Monica Beach just north of the pier. A very heavily searched area by metal detector enthusiasts and raked daily by the beach maintenance personnel.

Emil was confident that he found the location they had been sitting the day before. I set up my equipment a began my grid search. Starting with the dry sand I could see evidence that this area had been search by other detectorists. I continued my scan of the area just as if no body
had detected it at all. After finding a few coins I had hopes that the persons that had been here before were not very thorough. We still had a chance to find the ring if it was lost here yesterday evening.

After finishing the dry sand, I started a grid on the damp sand. It was low tide so I wouldn’t have to go as far as the water level. Five grid lines down the wet sand slope I got a great signal. Two scoops down “Bingo” Emil’s 22k gold and diamond ring was in my scoop. I was very surprised, because I had only asked him if it was yellow or white gold. I had no idea it had so many sparkly diamonds. It was a bright sunny morning and that helped to just make that 22k gold with diamonds pop.

It was a great day and they kept saying “I can’t believe it” over and over.
