*** I was called the morning after Danny lost his electronic Subaru key at Bolsa Chica State Beach. He was desperate to find the key as the cost of replacing it was going to be very expensive.

When I arrived at the location I was able to search the area around where he had been the day before. Danny met me an hour later to show me where he and his family had been set up for the day.

Unfortunately, there was a family already occupying the spot. This was not the first time I had to wait for a group to leave a potential location of a lost item. Almost always, I wait till the people leave . If I get a call at peak beach hours, I arrange the search till after most people leave the beach.

This time I didn’t have long to wait as the key was found very close to where the family was camped and they were not inconveniently interrupted. Danny was very happy to save the expense of having his electronic car key replaced. The quote he got was over a thousand dollars. Plus the aggravation of having to get the work done. ***Shelby lost her diamond engagement ring and wedding ring in the surf at Newport Beach, CA. She found my contact information online doing a  Google search for metal detecting service help Newport Beach.

After talking with Shelby we determined the loss occurred when she was waist deep at a high tide. The beach she was at is basically packed sand. So I had expectations of a successful recovery at the next low tide.

When I showed up later that evening there were two other guys with metal detectors working the low tide. I know there is always a chance they can find the ring. Not to worry, I know where the ring was lost, so I have an advantage.

Shortly after starting the search, I got a great signal, which turned out to be a beautiful 1.7ct solitare diamond ring and the gold diamond wedding ring , 18” apart. They were Shelby’s rings . I called her as soon as I could. She doesn’t need to worry any more than she has already. It was definitely my pleasure to help her find such special sentimental memory of her life.

*** Andy lost his electronic car key fob while hiking on a local hiking trail near his home in Costa Mesa, CA.

He called me for help after looking for two days. We decided that it has to be hiding out of sight. Which is a perfect situation to use a metal detector. It does help to hear his story to determine if we can use a metal detector.

He had strayed off the trail one time to pick up some trash. This was where he thought the fob could have slipped from his hand. When we got to the general area, he pointed out a bush that he recognized as the spot where the trash had been.

We did find the key fob, but it was not near the bush. It was near a bush 30 feet away from where he thought he picked up the trash. Happens all the time, I always know, that after a person leaves the site of the loss, it is difficult to get back to the same location. We call it searching outside the box.

It was a pleasure to help Andy, and I know it saved him a lot of time and expense. I got to see a happy guy that was relieved to have his lost item returned.

*** Boris and Felicia had been at north end of Manhattan Beach for a day in the SoCal sunshine. At the end of their day, as they were getting into the car,  he realized his platinum wedding band was missing.

It had to be back at the location where they had been laying on the beach. They went back searching the dry sand.

He called me for help after an online search. We met  at the parking lot, walking a couple blocks to a secluded spot on the beach. The area was easy to relocate as there were identifiable breakwater boulders. Sometimes, on our larger SoCal beaches, it’s a problem to get back to the original area.

*** I received a text form Veronica asking for help to find a gold and diamond wedding ring. She had been out on the lounge chairs by the pool sunning herself. Took off her ring off in order to  put on sunscreen. The diamon ring slipped from her grasp falling onto the wooden deck. It found its way trough the slits between the deck boards falling  under the deck.

Half the underside of the wooden deck was cement. The other half was on a  hillside with a lot of dry grass and weeds. Before calling me they had already removed a couple planks to determine the ring was not  on the cement. So I came prepared to search a brushy grass covered hillside.

I guess I could have asked Veronica to send me a photo of the search area to be prepared, but i didn’t. I relly don’t ask enough questions, I feel it is more important to get on the road and get the job done..

When I arrived at the location ,she showed me where she had been when she dropped the ring. Access to  the hillside was much easier than I expected. on other searches I’ve had to maneuver around or over fences or walls. I did have to avoid a  couple dog droppings. Other than that,the search went fairly easy with the Garrett handheld  pinpointer being  the proper tool to find beautiful ring that was hiding right up against a concrete footing in the dirt with dead grass.

Veronica was very excited and happy to have her ring back. It  could have been a lengthy search if the  ring bounced another  foot in the other direction.  It’s all part of being a ring finder. You never know what you are going to run into on the next search..

*** Jordan found my contact online two hours after losing a gold bracelet in playing volleyball in the sand. She was at San Onofre State Beach, San Clement, CA.  She said she would stay there till I arrived.

I met her on the beach within a hour.

She and her sister have the same bracelet which she was able to show me before I began the search. It was quite big and should have been easy to find without a detector.  After a short time I was able to find the gold bracelet. It was hiding under the volleyball boundary lines which is about an inch and a half wide.

She was definitely relieved as everybody in her party was confused that such a large piece of jewelry could not been found after they searched for a couple hours with a dozen people before asking for professional help.

It always feels good to come in and be successful.. To be truthful, sometimes it’s just not there.

*** Bridget was standing on her patio balcony when she threw some loose leaves over the side. Her wedding ring came off at  the same time going into the ivy ground cover.

Her friends rented a metal detector to help her find the ring. A half day later they gave up and called me. The residence was located just 4 or 5 miles from my home. So I was able to be  mmthere soon after the call.

The search area was medium thick ivy. Did start to clear the grassy are first because it’s a quicker scan process and some people don’t realize how far rings can go, especially on a downhill trajectory.

I went to the ivy next which they had pretty much tore up while doing their search.

The ring showed up only 5 feet off the edge of the balcony at the edge of the ivy and dirt/gravel walkway.. Search time, less than an hour. It could have been faster if I started from the balcony over the ivy and out to the grass.  Happiness for all even the friends that had searched so diligently.

..  Marshal texted me about a gold chain with a small gold pendant lost in the sand at Laguna Beach, CA.  He had taken the necklace was set on his towel while he and his girlfriend, Rebecca went swimming.

When they left the beach he picked up the towel and headed to his vehicle. He did return to search the sand without success .

The next morning Marshal called me asking if I could meet Rebecca at the location. When I arrived at the location there was a large tractor with a plow-like rake dragging the beach to remove seaweed washed up on the beach that last high tide. Following the tractor was another sifting machine working the same sand.

I was at the site and it did not look like my chances of finding the lost items were worth even trying a search. I explained the situation to Rebecca and proceeded to do a grid search over the area, expanding the search zone 50 to 60 yards.

I did find a small gold pendant that did turn out to be the missing pendant. The gold chain was never recovered. I knew it could be anywhere on the whole main beach. I spent more than 4 hours trying to understand how far away the chain got moved. It just didn’t show.

Marshal was happy to have the pendant back, because it was a gift from his mother.

** Asher called me just after she lost her diamond engagement ring in the sand in the city of Avalon, Santa Catalina , California. At the time she called, (8:30pm ), a group of her friends were sifting through the sand.

I told her I was available and would be on the first ferry in the morning. All that evening and the next morning, I expected a call saying they found it..

I did catch the 7:30am ferry and was at the location before 9:00am. A half hour latter I had the white gold diamond engagement ring recovered.

Asher was unable to meet me as she had an early morning tour reservation.

I texted the good news to her and we met on the beach, soon after I contacted her.

*** Cynthia was at Arbor Park located in Irvine , CA. She was sitting on the grass with her family when her Gold  chain link ring came off her finger, dropping into deep grass.

She found my contact information on line. After a short conversation I was able to meet her 35 minutes after getting the address of the park..

My heart sank when she showed me a photo of the gold chain ring and seeing the deep grass where it was dropped. Gold chains are difficult for most metal detectors to receive a decent signal. I always carry my high frequency metal detector for small gold searches. This was definitely the tool I had to use.

It took a few minutes to get a decent signal in the 4” deep grass. The small chain ring was at the bottom of the grass, balled up, about the size of a gold nugget. Hardly visible , even after spreading the blades of grass away.

A quick response time and successful search in difficult conditions. Many times the people don’t realize how hard a search can be. They think anybody can find a metal object, if they have a metal detector.. I love the challenge and being able to help people find irreplaceable keepsakes.
