Metal Detector LBI, lost ring on beach, Loveladies NJ, LBI, recovered by Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder

  • from Lavallette (New Jersey, United States)

Jessica reached out to me about a special ring her husband, Brian, had lost earlier in the day while they were enjoying a beautiful day at the beach. The ring had slipped off his thumb and disappeared into the sand. After searching for a while without success, Jessica decided to ask for my help. I requested that she call instead of texting, as it’s easier to communicate that way.

When Brian called, I immediately recognized his voice from a meeting about a year earlier when he needed help locating another item. I advised them to secure the area so that no one else would set up their chairs, ensuring I had a clear space to search.

Upon my arrival, Brian pointed out the spot where he thought the ring had fallen. I quickly got to work, and before long, the ring was in my sand scoop. It was back on Brian’s hand where it belonged, much to his excitement. The ring had a unique, one-of-a-kind design and was likely irreplaceable, making the recovery even more meaningful.

  1. Erica was enjoying a beautiful summer day at the Jersey Shore when a nearly tragic moment occurred. She had taken off her rings to apply sunblock and placed them on her beach chair. Hours later, when she went to sit down again, she suddenly remembered—but the rings were gone. After a long search with no success, Erica and her fiancé packed up for the day and headed to the boardwalk for dinner. While there, she posted on a local Facebook community group, sharing the exact location of where they had been sitting on the beach. Fortunately, someone in the comments saw the post and suggested she call Edward Trapper – the NJ Ring Finder.Erica contacted me right away. I asked her to take the post down (it had only been up for about 20 minutes) to avoid attracting any opportunistic treasure hunters, and I agreed to meet her at the boardwalk within 30 minutes.

By the time we reached the beach, it was dark and officially closed, but we carefully worked our way around the barriers. Erica guided me to the exact spot using earlier photos, and I could still see the dig marks from where they had searched earlier.

Within 10 minutes, I had her ring safely recovered in my scoop. The relief and excitement on their faces said it all—they truly didn’t expect to see those rings again.

2 Lost Rings Found With Metal Detector, Lavallette, Lavallette NJ, recovered by Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder

  • from Lavallette (New Jersey, United States)

Ashley was enjoying a day at the Jersey Shore with her family when she took off her rings and placed them on a towel to apply sunblock. Like many others in similar situations, she got distracted and forgot about the rings. A while later, she shook off the towel and only then remembered where she had left them. Her family searched for a while but had no luck. Unfortunately, Ashley had to head home, but she asked her family to call me for help with the recovery.

After receiving the call, I went to the beach, where her family had secured the area. Just a few swings of the detector later, her rings were safely in my scoop. I sent Ashley pictures of her recovered rings, and she was amazed.

This was another reminder of how important it is to act quickly and keep the area secured when something is lost.

Engagement ring lost on the beach, Beach Haven NJ, LBI, recovered by Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder

  • from Lavallette (New Jersey, United States)

While I was at work, I received a phone call from Ashley. She explained that she, her husband David, and their kids had been enjoying a beautiful afternoon at the beach when she took off her ring to apply sunblock. It wasn’t until hours later that she realized it was missing, remembering she had left it in the cup holder of the chair. After unsuccessfully searching, they packed up and headed home. A quick Google search led them to find my name, and Ashley promptly gave me a call.

We agreed to meet on the beach, and she briefly described the ring. When I arrived, David met me at the dune walkover. Based on his recollection of where they had been sitting and the pictures he had taken earlier in the day, we determined the search area. It was getting dark, and David had to return to the local amusement park to be with his kids.

I searched the area, widening my grid with each pass but had no luck at first. Along the way, I found some coins and a ring that didn’t seem to match Ashley’s description—I thought she had mentioned an emerald and diamond ring, but the one I found had emerald-cut diamonds. I set it aside and kept searching for another 30 minutes, still turning up nothing.

Back at my truck, I reviewed the information, puzzled as to why I couldn’t find the ring. Looking again at the one I had recovered, I realized it was a gold ring with emerald-cut diamonds. Curious, I called Ashley to ask for a more detailed description. This time, she described the ring as being yellow gold with emerald-cut diamonds all around. My jaw dropped—I had already recovered her ring without realizing it!

I sent her a picture, and she was in shock. It was her ring! Since she was staying just a few blocks away, I drove over to meet her husband David, who was extremely grateful for the recovery. We talked a bit, took some pics, and headed our separate ways.

Ring lost in the ocean, Lavallette NJ, recovered by Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder

  • from Lavallette (New Jersey, United States)

It was early afternoon on a beautiful day at the Jersey Shore when Megan texted me. She had just lost a very precious ring in the ocean and asked if I could help. I explained that it depended on how sure she was of the location and if she could guide me back to the exact spot. Megan said she had seen the ring fall from her finger and drop near her feet in waist-deep water. I instructed her to mark the location as best as possible, using Google Maps to drop a pin, taking photos of the shoreline and the area where the ring was lost, and noting the time of day it happened. She said she’d think it over and get back to me.

A few minutes later, Megan called back, ready to move forward. We arranged to meet at the next low tide, around 9 p.m., as the ocean was forecasted to get rough in the coming days, which would make the search nearly impossible. I met Megan’s mom, Erin, on the beach that night, and we marked the area where the ring had been lost. I started by working along the bottom of the tide line, hoping the ring had washed up, but after several passes, I had no luck. I checked the photos to ensure I was in the right spot—it all matched up.

The waves were rough, with a strong rip tide making it difficult to work below the shell drop. After a while, I took a break to regroup. While I spoke with my wife and Erin, I explained that the conditions were challenging and I wasn’t sure if I could continue searching.

After about half an hour, I returned to the water to observe the wave pattern. As the tide receded, the waves seemed to calm a bit, so I decided to give it another try. Determined to succeed, I got back into the water and focused on the area below the shell drop. Finally, I heard a solid signal—and there it was, Megan’s ring in my scoop.

I let out a yell of success, and Erin was in total shock. She immediately called Megan, shouting, “He found it! I can’t believe it! Get down here!” The excitement was contagious, and everything came together quickly. By then, it was close to 11 p.m., and I was exhausted from battling the surf. We took some photos, hugged, and said our goodbyes.

This recovery was a reminder of why it’s important to choose the right person for the job—someone who isn’t afraid of rough conditions and will do whatever it takes to succeed.

Apple Watch lost on the beach, Loveladies NJ, LBI, recovered by Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder

  • from Lavallette (New Jersey, United States)

I received a call from Jennifer about her son Will’s lost Apple Watch on the beach. They had been enjoying the day at a relatively private beach when Will took off his watch and placed it in the cup holder of a beach chair. Jennifer explained they had been sitting near the middle of the beach, away from the tide, so there was a good chance the watch was still there.

She initially wanted to think about it, but called me back two days later to meet at the beach. Will walked me out to the spot and, being a very detail-oriented young man, he described every step and action he had taken before the watch disappeared.

I set up a grid search in the area he pointed out, and within 15 minutes, I found the Apple Watch safely in my sand scoop. Will was amazed and gave me a high five, while Jennifer was absolutely thrilled that the watch was recovered after two days on the beach.

Bracelet lost on the beach, Lavallette NJ, recovered by Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder

  • from Lavallette (New Jersey, United States)

Around lunchtime, I received a call from Kim, requesting help to find a bracelet lost on the beach. Unfortunately, I missed the call as I was out on the beach as well, enjoying the beautiful day, with family and friends. The Jersey Shore location has limited cell phone signal capabilities unfortunately . I called Kim back as soon as I could. She explained that her son, Liam, had been playing soccer with his nephews and nieces when he noticed his bracelet was missing. The bracelet was irreplaceable, purchased in the Virgin Islands years ago. She asked if I could come down to the beach to search, and I agreed, telling her to have Liam mark off the area with chairs or blankets to keep people from sitting there.

I planned to meet them later in the evening, around dinner time, which worked fine for Kim. When I arrived, Liam met me at the dune walkover. I was initially a bit concerned since items lost while playing sports on the beach can sometimes cover an vast area. Luckily, Liam’s soccer buddies were much younger, keeping the playing area relatively small, about a 50×50 foot section. I asked Liam where he thought the most likely spot the bracelet might have come off, and he pointed to far end of the area.

I started my search on the far end, and nearly completed the whole section when I decided to widen the search by about five feet. Shortly after, I got a solid signal and sure enough, it was  Liam’s bracelet. Liam hadn’t noticed that I found the bracelet, so I walked over to him, to confirm that the location was in fact the right spot. He looked around and said without a doubt, this was right where they were. That’s when I decided to make the reveal, showing him the bracelet in my scoop. He was absolutely thrilled to see it, as this bracelet had some strong sentimental memories.

How to find a gold necklace with a metal detector in a lagoon, Beach Haven West NJ, recovered by Edward Trapper, NJ Ring Finder

  • from Lavallette (New Jersey, United States)

Lost Necklace Recovered in the Lagoon Just Before Checkout!

I got a call from Matt, who had just wrapped up a relaxing week at the Jersey Shore. As he and his friends were packing up to leave, disaster struck—he dove off the bulkhead earlier that morning and felt his necklace slip right off, dropping straight down into the lagoon between the jet ski dock and the bulkhead.

He found my page and reached out in hopes that I could help, even though they had to check out by noon. I told him I’d rearrange my plans and head over immediately.

When I arrived, Matt showed me exactly where it happened. I got right to work, but the bottom was a mess—old bulkhead parts, a tree stump, and storm debris made swinging my detector tough. With so much metal interference from years of boating and water activities, it was slow going. The water was deep, the sun was blazing, and I was starting to think a dive with my handheld detector might be the only way.

Just as I was about to call it quits, I caught a solid signal—one that stood out from the usual noise. It took several tricky scoops, but then… success! Matt’s beautiful necklace was sitting in my scoop.

I handed up my gear, climbed out of the murky water, and joined the celebration on the dock. Matt and his friends were beyond thrilled, and the joy on their faces made every minute of the struggle worth it. After some happy chatting, they headed off with smiles and one last great memory of their vacation on the Jersey Shore.
