I lost my ring in the river, I called metal detectorist Dwight C. (864)535-4347 Recently, I was called out to the Edisto River in Orangeburg, SC, to help find a lost ring. The owner had flipped her kayak and figured the ring had gone missing out in the current. The river had that dark “Coca-Cola” tint but was surprisingly clear beneath the surface.

I had been searching for almost an hour and a half, and honestly, I was running low on air. On top of that, I kept glancing over my shoulder because it felt like the kind of place where an alligator might just show up to add a little extra excitement.

In the end, just as I was about to wrap up, I found the ring near the riverbank where she’d first stepped in. It hadn’t made it out to the middle at all. Just a good reminder that sometimes the simplest explanation is the right one. Another successful recovery and a happy owner.

When I got the call, it was the kind of challenge I love: a couple who had been playing football in their yard realized a cherished ring had gone missing. Despite hours of searching, they just couldn’t spot it. The husband even tried his hand with a basic metal detector but couldn’t quite master the settings. That’s when they found me through RingFinders and gave me a shout.

After a short delay due to weather, I headed out to meet them. The search area was actually a good-sized, square-profile yard—a nice open space with neatly cut grass, making it a straightforward area to work in. And, I had solid strategy. I laid out a Jackstay search pattern, to methodically moving line by line.

The best part? I barely had to move more than 15 feet on the first pass before I got a strong signal. The ring had settled just beneath the grass line—the grass had simply swallowed it up, making it invisible to the naked eye. The couple was thrilled—it turned out the ring never made it far at all, and they were so relieved to have it back.

Lost iPhone Recovered from Warpath Boat Ramp – And It Still Works!

Ringfinder,(phone finder) Dwight Childress, cell# (864)535-4347. I was recently contacted by someone who had accidentally dropped their iPhone into the lake near the Warpath boat ramp. The water wasn’t deep—just about 15 feet—but visibility can be tricky in those conditions. I suited up and did a quick recovery dive.

Within a few minutes, I located the phone sitting upright in the silt. Amazingly, it was still functioning after being underwater! Just goes to show that a fast response can make all the difference.

I have over 8 yrs of metal detecting experience land and water with scuba certifications for those deeper recoveries. On this particular recovery I got the call about a couple walking their dog near a very popular swimming area in Downtown Greenville. The woman slipped and lost her ring in the water. I came prepared to snorkel and search for her ring. As I was wading along sweeping my detector, I heard a loud beep! Something much bigger than a ring. I donned my snorkel gear and submerged. I came up with a ring and a phone. Excitedly she exclaimed, « oh wow you found my phone also! » Yup she wasn’t as worried about her phone so never mentioned it but still very excited to have it back. It was a great recovery.

Lost ring found with metal detector. Dwight Childress (864)535-4347. Got the call late one day about a guy throwing scraps over his fence into the woods behind his house. He felt his ring come off and he heard a « Thunk ». I came over and began sweeping the area, left, right, up, down. Unsuccessfully completing the first grid search and reevaluating his recollection of the story, I decided to expand my outer grid a little more and BAM! Shining like a star hidden in the grass was his ring. It was a great feeling. He had his whole family out and his kids. I let his little boy use one of my detectors and may have started him down a path of the next Ring Finder.

Well when I joined the ring finders I didn’t imagine being called for this type of recovery. A ring that has been lost for over 5 years! With a great idea of the location it should be I set out in the clients backyard to help locate the ring. Unfortunately with it being lost for 5 years I knew I would have to be digging. So every time I came across a good signal that’s what I did. Although it wasn’t the most signals I’ve heard in such a close area, I still did a lot of digging. Finding pieces of tin from the homes construction, pull tab, a quarter, a sprinkler head, and a dog tag. I was getting a little skeptical as most of my signals were similar vdi’s and tones. But when my pinpointer flipped that dirt clump over the gold shone through better then I could believe it would have after 5 years. I’m glad I was able to locate it and it was obvious what it meant for my client to have it returned.

After the big SC rivalry game between Clemson and SC lead to the loss 30-31, another big loss came to. Walking home from the game my client crossed a field where he stumbled and felt his prized ring fly from his finger. He spent several hours searching and even recruited the help of his friends with no luck. With the help of a family member they located our services at Ring Finders and found me. I met him at the field where I searched for several hours myself. I made arrangements to come back soon with a great plan. I laid out a grid using surveying flags. 3 feet apart and 150 feet across from one another, I laid out the rest of my day with high visibility. Row by row and swung my coil stopping for every beep I came across, heart pumping and jumping every time! After several hours I made my way to the very last row. I was staring at the last flag as I made my way swinging towards it. I could feel the disappointment starting creep across me when finally with only 20 feet left to go, the loudest signal rang out and screamed from my detector. There it was! Big gold and very shiny! My first recovery as a Ring Finder! It was a great feeling and even better when I made that call to let him know I had it in my hands. Some losses may be forever but with my help I was able to make this one just a temporary setback.
