This wasn’t just a piece of jewelry. It was a living story—woven together from three generations of love, sacrifice, and legacy. A Ring Unlike Any Other

Julie’s engagement ring was a masterpiece of meaning and craftsmanship. Her fiancé Nick had secretly spent weeks designing it—carefully blending family history into one breathtaking symbol of their future together.

When Olivia reached out to me, her voice carried the kind of heartbreak that only comes from losing something truly irreplaceable. It wasn’t until I got to the search site that I was told that the rings disappeared somewhere down a steep embankment. I just thought the rings were somewhere in the backyard.

Her husband Anthony had already tried everything he could, even using a metal detector to recover the rings himself. But despite his determination, the search came up empty. Within the first hour, success! About 55 feet down the slope, my detector picked up a promising signal. Hidden beneath the overgrowth was Olivia’s beautiful white gold diamond wedding band, sparkling like it had been waiting to be found. Hope was restored.

Anthony admitted that before I arrived, he had already accepted the rings were gone forever. Now, with one ring recovered, we all believed the engagement ring would soon follow.

But the hillside had other plans. Despite another hour of searching, the engagement ring remained missing. I suggested searching the very bottom of the hill—an area previously dismissed due to its distance and extreme overgrowth.

The next day, after finishing other commitments, I couldn’t shake the feeling that the ring was still out there—waiting. I called Olivia and asked if I could return one last time. She gratefully agreed, sharing that she had prayed that very morning for the ring’s recovery.

Jack set out to enjoy a peaceful afternoon doing something he truly loved—gardening. On the back balcony of his condominium, he carefully planted flowers into the same pots he had used year after year. It was supposed to be relaxing. Rewarding. A simple pleasure.

There are some recoveries that remind me exactly why I do what I do. This is one of those stories.

I recently received a call from a very distressed couple who had lost something far more valuable than its monetary worth—a yellow gold Tiffany-style solitaire engagement ring featuring a one-carat diamond.

This was not just any ring. It had been on Audrey’s finger for over 40 years, carrying with it decades of memories, milestones, and love.

A Difficult Day Takes an Unexpected Turn

Audrey and her husband Larry were traveling from Maryland to West Virginia to take their adult son to a hospital specializing in complex back surgery. During the drive, their son rode in the front passenger seat while Audrey sat in the back of their Toyota Camry.

I expanded the search area to roughly a 45-foot by 40-foot section of lawn and garden space. This included areas where Liz had been walking while holding new plants and transporting pots. Still—nothing. No ring.

A Change in Strategy

At that point, I explained to Liz and David that I needed to adjust my approach. I switched to a metal detector with a smaller coil so I could work more precisely around the newly planted flowers without causing damage. I also considered a possibility that had not yet been explored:

What if the ring had fallen directly into the flower beds while planting—and had actually become buried during the process?

It wasn’t the scenario they wanted to hear. But at this point, they were open to anything that might lead to recovery. So I began carefully scanning each flower one by one, working much closer to the soil than before.

Along the way, I recovered scrap metal, nails, screws, and other debris. I even ended up gently lifting around 15 plants during the process as I worked through the dense signals.
Then something changed. A signal stood out.

The Moment Everything Changed

I dug carefully at the base of one of the plants and placed the detector back into the hole. The signal came back strong and consistent. Using my pinpointer, I narrowed the target further.

Then, with my hands, I reached into the soil and carefully pulled out the object. To my shock—and immediate joy—it was Liz’s ring.

A magnificent yellow gold diamond engagement ring, featuring a brilliant center stone surrounded by baguette and round diamonds that still caught light even through layers of dirt and soil. Even covered in debris, the sparkle was unmistakable.

The Emotional Discovery

When Liz and David saw where the ring had actually been found, they were completely stunned. Liz had been convinced the ring fell off in a different area entirely. She even recalled the exact moment she felt it slip from her finger. But the truth was very different. The ring had likely fallen earlier than she realized and ended up buried beneath one of the very flowers she had planted—hidden in plain sight all along.

It’s a powerful reminder that in moments like these, memory and perception can sometimes mislead us, especially when panic and emotion are involved.

A Recovery That Meant Everything

In the end, what mattered most was simple: Liz and David had their ring back. A cherished symbol of love that many would have assumed was lost forever was now safely returned to them.

Winter isn’t exactly the ideal season to be digging around in the ground—but for Deborah, it was the perfect time to plan her next big project.

She had her sights set on extending her garden along one side of her home. There was just one problem: she had no idea exactly where her property line was. Deborah wanted to be absolutely certain she wasn’t crossing into her neighbor’s land, and she also needed to maintain the proper distance from her house to build the garden correctly.

Like many homeowners, she had tried everything she could think of to locate her property markers—but they were nowhere to be found. Over time, the earth had completely covered them, and what had once been clearly marked more than a decade ago had disappeared beneath layers of soil, leaves, and growth.

Deborah knew she could call in a surveyor again—but after paying for one years ago, she also knew that could cost up to $2,500 or more depending on the property. So she started searching for alternatives.
That’s when she found me.

While looking up property marker identification and surveyors online, Deborah came across my website, which led her to the THE RING FINDERS directory. It started with a message no one ever wants to send.

I heard from a young wife named Emma who was carrying a heavy weight of guilt—she believed she had lost her husband AJ’s wedding band. Not just any ring, but a classic 14-karat yellow gold band that had been on his finger for four years since the day they said “I do.”

A Simple Decision… That Led to a Loss

Emma and AJ had taken their two kids to an ultimate frisbee game at Francis Scott Key Middle School, where AJ was playing. The other day, I received a call from a young woman named Margaux and her mother, Stacey. They were understandably distressed—Margaux had lost a very special pendant, a cherished family heirloom that had been passed down for decades.

Stacey had lent the pendant to Margaux for the evening, knowing how much she loved it. Later that night, Margaux was spending time with friends at a friend’s house, enjoying the backyard and playing with the dogs. But just before heading back inside, she realized something was wrong—the fish-shaped pendant was no longer around her neck. Only the choker remained.

The loss was heartbreaking. The pendant had once belonged to Margaux’s grandmother before being passed down to Stacey, making it deeply meaningful to the entire family.

Everyone immediately began searching the backyard, but despite their efforts, nothing turned up. Even with the help of a neighbor’s metal detector, the search yielded nothing more than confusing beeps and chirps.

If you are of senior age or perhaps someone who is younger but has a hearing issue, you would know just how expensive hearing aids can cost. My parents have spent thousands of dollars on various models over the years and their latest pair cost nearly $5500! My eighty-eight year old client Mickey had recently invested in a pair of aids worth the same amount of money. Sadly, one of them was lost out on his property in Burtonsville, Maryland.

I received a call from Mickey’s granddaughter Erin, explaining that Mickey was lawn mowing and raking the leaves throughout the one acre estate. Jim and Maureen have been married for 28 years. One of the saddest days they’ve ever had was when Jim noticed that his 14 karat yellow gold classic style wedding band was missing from his finger.

Jim and Maureen searched everywhere outside and a few places in the house but all of their search efforts led to no avail. The distraught husband had a strong hunch that the wedding band was lost outside when he was shutting off the water for the upcoming winter months.
