Necklace lost at Mission Bay found

  • from La Jolla (California, United States)

Kitty was visiting here and spent the last day of her vacation at the beach. She took off her special necklace with attached pendant, that was given to her from her grandmother, to apply some lotion. Well, you know the rest, it ended up in the dry sand where it seemed to completely disappear. After searching online, trying to contact some people in vain, talking with a few, including my fellow ring finding buddy Curtis just north of me. He told her that I was closer and could probably get on site quicker, since she had to get to the airport to catch her flight. Being Father’s day, a Sunday, summer time, and a hot sunny day (at least at my house), traffic and parking can make a 20 minute drive turn into an hour or more. My wife came with me in case she had to circle for a while if it came to that.  As luck would have it, the weather at the beach had turned a bit cool and overcast, so, lots of folks were leaving the beach area and allowed us to get there quickly and find a parking spot close by.  We met Kitty at the search area and got the story of the lost necklace. Not a huge area, maybe 20′ X 30′, but, she had no feeling as to the most likely spot. I decided to start at the north most end and work my way south. First target on my first pass was promising, but, not knowing what this was actually going to read on the detector, I would be investigating every signal. Success! A gold chain with it’s pendant came to light. An emotional Kitty gave us both a big hug and tearful thank you. A pleasure to meet you, glad you could make your flight, and thank you for the reward.

Ring lost in Mission Bay Found

  • from La Jolla (California, United States)

Ryan was out paddle boarding on Mission Bay, when about 15 yards off shore, he took a tumble. Windmilling his arms resulted in his platinum wedding band flying off his finger and into the drink in waist deep water. He searched the best he could, even pulling up some of the sea grass, but, the ring had disappeared. He noted the spot and sadly went home to break the news to his wife. He found TheRingFinders.com website, my contact info, and gave me a call. We agreed to meet the next day at 11:30am to take the best advantage of a currently pitiful low tide. We arrived at the same time and made our way to the search area. Once Ryan got oriented and waded out to ground zero, I started my first pass out to where he was standing.  I heard a few spurious signals along the way, indicating junk or something reading totally different that what his ring would read, until I got out to about waist deep water. There I got a solid 16 on my Equinox and tried to scoop the target. It took 5-6 tries in the sea grass to get the target in my scoop. After filtering the sand, mud, shells, and sea grass out, I was left with a beautiful ring staring up at me. Ryan couldn’t have been happier and more relieved to get it back. A pleasure meeting you Ryan and thank you for the reward.

Recently I received an urgent call at a private 100 acre ranch near me in Vista, San Diego asking if I could help search for her friends gold family heirloom ring lost while playing volleyball. Certainly I can help! So we scheduled a time to meet that day shortly then after.

Arriving at the gate promptly, I checked in with the security guard and drove through…Shocked of this amazing wilderness get away place this was..It had private ponds, A Lake,Volleyball courts,Soccer fields..You name it..100 acres of the finest great outdoors I never knew existed here. Approaching the end of a long dirt road, I met a lady in charge there who helped guide me to a parking spot. There was even a historical building I saw and she said it was built in the late 1800’s…!  This is like a Metal Detectors dream come true I guess?  Ha…My focus was all about finding this lost precious ring and of course handing out TheRingFinders cards after success here.

So I set up my metal detector gear and successfully found her ring buried in the grass within just a minute or two of searching. Instantaneously being surrounded by joyful smiles,, I noticed this was a very old minors cut diamond and asked her how long it’s been in the family,,,4 Generations!!  The story behind this ring can now live on.
