While cleaning up debris left behind by a recent snow storm Matt Smalley lost his 14 kt white gold wedding band. Matt performed an “eyeballing” search for his ring but it was unable to locate his ring. Matt found my profile on Ring Finders and contacted me, giving me the basic information and we set a date for me to come and look for his ring.

I arrived at the prescribed date and time; Matt had taken that afternoon off work so that he would be able to explain his work site and what he was doing the day of the rings loss. The day was a bit cool so after Matt had shown my around he went back into his house to stay warm.

I prepared my equipment and set about on my search. Within a couple of minutes I heard the sound of a ring laying on the surface. As I parted the grass I could see the white gold band that was hiding very well under the leaves and brown grass. I retrieved the ring and made my way to the front door to return Matt’s ring.

Ring found in yard near Longmont, Colorado

Marshall Lipps lost his platinum wedding ring while doing yard work in the spring.  He had trimmed some ornamental grasses and bushes and taken the clippings to a composting pile towards the back of the property. Since they live on a small acreage the ring could have been along a sizable path or someplace not thought of. Marshall even went to a rental place and rented a metal detector twice in an attempt to recover his ring. But he was not able to locate the ring using the rental detector.

Marshall then came upon the “Ring Finders” site and contacted me to assist in the search for his ring. By now it had been three weeks since he had lost his ring. Marshall and I walked the area where he was working and talked about what it was he was doing along with a demonstration of his actions.

I set out the search for Marshall’s ring searching the area of the ornamental grasses and the path to the compost pile. I ended up finding it near the compost pile but in an area that wasn’t expected as he didn’t recall being quite that far to the side of the pile. Marshall was happy to see his ring, but his wife was even happier.

Heirloom ring found in yard in Longmont, Colorado

Recently I was contacted by Sheila, who lives in Florida. In February, she came to Colorado to visit her friend Barri from Longmont. While Sheila was here in Colorado, we received several inches of new snow. Since she is from Florida and snow is a rarity, she went outside to play around in the snow, throwing some snow balls and such. Apparently while gathering snow the ring fell off her pinky finger (it is a small ring). When they noticed later that evening that her ring was missing they searched in earnest for it but without success. After that several other people had visually looked for the ring but they also ended their searches without success.

As background information, Sheila’s mother passed away in 1998 and her father then kept her ring for the next 10 years until he passed away in 2008. There was a small battle between the 10 children of the couple as to who would get their mother’s wedding band. Well, Sheila was the one who ended up with the cherished ring.

When I arrived at the house, Barri and I looked over pictures and watched a couple short videos that were taken the day the ring was lost. In one of the videos you can clearly see the ring on her figure. There was a short series of photos that were taken moments later and the ring was missing in the last photo.  Thus we knew exactly when the ring was lost.

I put my detector together and began my search. Within 10 minutes of starting I had found the ring. We called Sheila to tell her the good news. To say she was happy would be a HUGE understatement. She was crying, almost uncontrollably, for longer than it took to find the ring.
