Happy Wife, Happy Life

  • from North Myrtle Beach (South Carolina, United States)

It’s not often you get a lost ring call close to home (literally). Unknowingly to me, my wife lost her anniversary ring over 3 months ago. She said it fell between the cushion in our love seat sofa with recliners and a console in between the two seats. If you knew my wife, she doesn’t ask for help for anything and was bound and determined to find it herself. Funny, she told our kids, a friend of hers, but not me (the ring finder guy).  She finally mentioned it to me last night and my first question was why you didn’t tell me. Her response was that she knew where it was and that it would eventually turn up.

Well, today while she was shopping, I got out my endoscope and went to work. I searched all through the sofa on both sides and couldn’t see the ring. Finally, seeing if I might be able to come through the back of the sofa, I lifted one side and moved it. After I got the sofa far enough away from the wall, I looked down on the carpet and saw her ring. Evidently, the ring fell all the way through the cushions. Being a wise guy, I took a picture of the ring and sent her a text saying “Look familiar? I am, The Ring Finder!” I can’t repeat her response, but my reward was a cooked frozen pizza for dinner.

Thanks  Babe!

Jim

Rose Gold Wedding Rind Set Lost in Sand .. Pacific Beach, CA. ..Found

  • from Newport Beach (California, United States)

Barbara called me about 6:30pm.. Telling me how she lost her wedding rings earlier that afternoon in the sand at Pacific Beach located in the SanDiego area. She took them off putting them on a towel while applying sunscreen.. Barbara was upset with herself but I assured her this was so common she shouldn’t be so hard on herself. I was also able to convince her that metal detectors work very well to recover rings lost in the sand. Our chances were good to find her rings as it had only been a few hours sense the loss.
Timing is important and getting close to the general area they were lost would have a lot to do with recovering the rings. She said that they could meet me after they got home from dinner commitment about 10 pm. Perfect for me because I could return a ring to a lady that lives in San Diego, saving her a trip to Newport Beach.
Barbara and Dan met me and I followed them to the north end of Pacific Beach. We walked a few blocks to some landmarks they had remembered. Barbara pointed to an broken pair of sunglasses and a rock they had placed each side of where they were sitting. Dan was interested in how the detector worked so I took a few moments to explain what it was telling me as a dug a few pieces of trash. Then I got two solid gold tones with nice ID numbers that matched. I scooped one ring and marked a spot for Barbara to find it with her fingers. I told her to grab with her fingers not drag her fingers through the sand. She got it and we took pictures. Returned to our cars to head home. I asked them to tell their friends and post on their social media about TheRingFinders.com. I’m one of 400 members located all over the country.

Jim is staying at the Huntington Beach Hyatt Regency Hotel on a business conference. He is visiting from Denver. When he called me at 5:45pm , it was moments after he had dropped his tungsten wedding ring in the sand while brushing sand off his pants. He had a pretty good idea of the location. He and his two friends even put the location on their smart phone with GPS co-ordinates. It was only seven miles from my location to where Jim was, but he told me he had a meeting to attend in one hour. I told him I was in my car with my detecting equipment and it was important that I have a few minutes with him before his meeting.

The traffic was not too bad coming from Newport Beach. The trip only took 15 minutes. It was also nice, not to pay $15 for parking. I have a yearly parking passes for most beaches around the Orange County area.  Calling Jim as I pulled up, he saw my car and waved me over to the location on the beach. It was a little nerve racking because of the up coming meeting. I set up a grid right away, starting at the center of a 50 foot square area. Walking straight through the center rotating in a spiral. It’s not good push myself, because that’s inviting mistakes that can be time consuming. After the first pass I turned to start the second pass, the first two targets that I retrieved turned out to be trash metal, but the third was Jim’s ring. We rushed to take photos for this blog.. Jim called home to report the good news to his wife. They still had time to make it to his business meeting. He did have a big smile but my camera would only let me take one photo. We did have a nice sunset in the background. It was a pleasure to meet Jim and his friends, but it was sort of like.. « Wam Bam, Thank You Stan »

Lost Ring off Balcony … Recovered … Long Beach, CA.

Last week I received a call about 9am from Luis asking me if I could help him find his platinum wedding band. Luis had looked for the ring for a whole day and a half. Then he got online thinking he could buy or rent a metal detector. Finding TheRingFinders directory and he decided to call me.  He lives on the third floor of a high rise apartment complex. Standing on his balcony sweating the dust off a cushion, he heard a ping sound but didn’t realize it was his wedding band hitting the floor. A couple minutes later he realized that he was missing his wedding band that he has had been wearing for fifteen years. We discussed the details of the search area and I decided it would be better to wait till 3pm to meet up with him. It sounded like it was possible that the ring could have landed in his neighbor’s the ground floor patio which is about 3 feet larger than the upper floor balconies. We would not be able to search that patio, because neighbors had not returned from their weekend trip.

I had about 5 hours to put together a game plan for the search. Not knowing the location my mind ran through all kind of possibilities. When I got to the building I saw two sets of balconies. One set of had a big garden area with a lawn lawn in front of it and the other had a small garden area with a large asphalt driveway leading down to an underground parking lot. I was hoping the one with the lawn was going to be where Luis lived, because it would be more detector friendly. Well, it was the other area with the small garden. It only took about a half hour to go through it with my detector followed up by crawling around with my pin pointer ( hand held detector ) checking all the hard to get at spots. It’s important to keep the right frame of mind. It’s easy to give up on a search just before the miracle happens. I wasn’t looking forward to checking the underground garage and the drain, covered by a grating that couldn’t be removed.

Luis’s wife Melissa came down to tell us we had permission to get into the neighbors patio. We went into the patio and the first thing I saw was a mass of large potted ferns in corner most probable place for the ring to be. It was also loaded with many dry leaves. It looked like it was going to take some time to do a thorough search. Luis started looking on one side of the patio and I started scanning around the potted ferns using a  small 6″ coil on my detector. It was hard to stay positive looking at the mass of ferns.  Before starting to look through the fern leaves, I checked against the wall and the miracle happened. I saw the ring hiding in the leaves against the wall. Without touching the ring I took a couple photos of the ring before I called Luis over to see it. Again I don’t know who was happier, me or Luis.    » The ring wasn’t lost, it was just waiting to be found «
