?? Texas A&M Class Ring Recovered from the Bottom of the Lake!

Texas A&M Class Ring Recovered from the Bottom of the Lake!
What started as a fun weekend at a lakeside Airbnb quickly turned into a stressful experience for Jacob and his family.
While enjoying the lake, Jacob realized his treasured Texas A&M class ring had slipped
off of his finger and disappeared into approximately 9 feet of water. Family members dove repeatedly, feeling through the sandy bottom, but the ring simply could not be found.
After searching online, Jacob contacted Houston Metal Detecting Services for help.
A few weeks later, our schedules lined up, and we met at the lake house to begin an underwater search. Using specialized scuba and underwater metal detecting equipment, I systematically searched the area in zero-visibility conditions. Before long, the detector locked onto the signal I was hoping to hear.
Buried beneath the lake bottom was Jacob’s Texas A&M class ring, ending weeks of uncertainty and turning what seemed like an impossible loss into another successful recovery.
Recovering jewelry underwater requires experience, patience, and specialized equ
ipment—but there’s nothing better than handing a treasured item back to its owner.

Lost & Found: Lindsey’s Texas A&M Class Ring Recovered from Lake Conroe

Lost & Found: Lindsey’s Texas A&M Class Ring Recovered from Lake Conroe

Lindsey’s Memorial Day weekend at Lake Conroe took an unexpected turn when she lost her cherished Texas A&M class ring right off the dock behind her family’s lake house. She shared that she was trying to get onto a paddleboard when she lost her balance and slipped off into the water. As she swam back toward the dock—just a few feet away—she felt her class ring slide off her finger and sink to the sandy lake bottom, about five feet below.
Her family made several determined attempts to recover the ring, diving down and feeling along the murky lake floor, but it soon became clear the task was far more difficult than they had imagined. Lindsey said that after countless efforts and no success, she had come to terms with the loss and even ordered a replacement ring from Texas A&M.
However, fate had other plans.
During the Fourth of July weekend, Lindsey came across a post online about a Texas A&M ring I had recently recovered from Lake Conroe through Houston Metal Detecting Services. That story sparked new hope, and Lindsey immediately sent me a text message, asking if there was any chance her ring could be found.
She provided excellent details about the location and exactly how the ring was lost—information that’s often crucial in these kinds of searches. And as any Aggie would understand, it wasn’t just about the monetary value—she wanted her ring back, not a replacement.
We set plans in motion to meet on Sunday and search for her ring. As soon as I got on site, it was clear we had a great shot at success. And sure enough, after carefully searching the area she described, I was able to recover Lindsey’s original Texas A&M class ring from the sandy bottom of Lake Conroe.
As you can see from the photos, it turned out to be a great day for everyone—especially Lindsey, who now has her beloved ring back where it belongs!

The Search for Colin’s Texas A&M Class Ring: A Lake Conroe Recovery Story

  • from Sugar Land (Texas, United States)
The Search for Colin’s Texas A&M Class Ring: A Lake Conroe Recovery Story
Colin’s Texas A&M class ring meant more to him than just a piece of jewelry. It symbolized years of hard work, dedication, and a milestone in his life that marked his college achievements. So when he lost it during an outing with friends on Lake Conroe, the frustration was palpable.
It happened on a sunny day as Colin and his friends were enjoying a day on the water. They docked the boat at a local marina, and while assisting in tying off the boat, his class ring slipped off his finger. Before he could even react, the ring plunged deep into the murky waters of Lake Conroe, disappearing into the depths where visibility was nearly nonexistent. The water was about 16 feet deep, but with zero visibility, any attempt to locate the ring seemed almost impossible.
Despite several attempts by people who tried to dive down and recover it, the darkness of the water swallowed any hope of success. The ring remained lost, and the group reluctantly gave up after trying everything they could.
When Colin contacted me about the loss, we knew it would be a difficult task. We spent the next three weeks coordinating our schedules, preparing for what would be a challenging recovery mission. Lake Conroe, known for its murky waters, would be no easy place to search for a small object like a class ring. However, Colin was determined to get his treasured possession back, and so was I.
Finally, the day arrived. We met at the marina early in the morning. Colin walked me through the area where he had lost the ring, explaining in detail the circumstances leading up to its disappearance. We discussed the previous unsuccessful attempts and agreed on a clear search strategy. I would handle the underwater side of the operation, while Colin took responsibility topside.
The lake was calm that morning, but the visibility below the surface was as bad as we had expected—zero. The dark water seemed to stretch on endlessly in every direction. Armed with my metal detector and a sense of purpose, I entered the water. The coolness of the lake water enveloped me as I slowly descended. At 16 feet, I reached the bottom and began to methodically search the area.
With each swing of the metal detector, I remained focused, knowing the importance of every pass through the silt-covered floor. The ring had to be down there somewhere.
Minutes passed. Then, as I carefully swept the detector along the lakebed, a faint but unmistakable signal rang through my headphones. I carefully shifted some debris and sand through my hand, and there it was—Colin’s Texas A&M class ring.
I surfaced, holding the ring triumphantly. Colin’s eyes lit up as I handed it to him. His smile was priceless, a combination of relief and gratitude. “I can’t believe you found it,” he said, almost in disbelief.
The recovery had been a challenge, but in the end, it was worth every moment of effort. Colin was reunited with his cherished class ring, and I was reminded once again of the importance of what we do—helping people recover precious memories, even from the darkest depths of the water.

Buried but Not Lost: A Platinum Wedding Ring Recovered in Spring, Texas

  • from Sugar Land (Texas, United States)
Buried but Not Lost: A Platinum Wedding Ring Recovered in Spring, Texas:
I was recently contacted regarding the loss of a platinum wedding ring at a residence in Spring, Texas. The homeowner explained that the ring went missing shortly after completing cold-weather protection preparation in the front yard of his home.
Before the cold weather arrived here in Texas, he had spread a large volume of mulch across multiple flower beds. He covered several plants with protective sheets to guard against freezing temperatures. It wasn’t until the following evening that he realized his wedding ring was no longer on his finger.
He searched briefly but quickly became overwhelmed. The search area was extensive, the mulch was freshly laid, and numerous plants had been handled and covered. Knowing the odds were stacked against him, he turned to the internet—and that search led him to Houston Metal Detecting Services.
Arrangements were made to meet at his residence that same day.
The search area was sizable, consisting of a large grassy front lawn and several mulch-covered flower beds. From the start, I knew this recovery would be more challenging than a typical surface find. Given the circumstances, it was unlikely the ring would be sitting on top of the grass or caught in the roots. The more probable scenario was that it had been unknowingly buried beneath fresh mulch in one of the flower beds.
We began with the easier portion of the search—the front lawn. After carefully covering the entire grassy area with no success, attention shifted to the flower beds. These beds had recently received several inches of new mulch, making a visual search nearly impossible.
Working methodically through the beds, the signal finally came in.
As shown in the photos, the platinum wedding ring was recovered from approximately three inches beneath fresh mulch in one of the front flower beds. Another wedding ring, once thought lost for good, was safely returned to its rightful owner.
Moments like this are exactly why I do what I do—helping people recover items that carry far more value than metal alone.

Beyond the Backyard: A Cypress Wedding Ring Recovery

  • from Sugar Land (Texas, United States)
Beyond the Backyard: A Cypress Wedding Ring Recovery
Tim’s call came in with a familiar tone—hope mixed with frustration. He explained that he was looking for someone to help recover his lost wedding ring, which had disappeared in the backyard of his home in Cypress, Texas.
The day before, Tim had been in the yard throwing a ball for his Labrador retriever, enjoying a normal afternoon at home. On one of the throws, he felt his wedding ring slip from his finger. Tim told me he distinctly remembered seeing a brief glimpse of the ring as it flew straight up into the air before he lost sight of it completely. Despite searching on his own, the ring was nowhere to be found.
The following day, I arrived at Tim’s residence and began a detailed grid search of his backyard. With no clear direction of travel and no visible clues, every inch of the yard needed to be carefully checked. Although the search was thorough, it produced no results. Still, Tim remained confident—he knew what he felt, and he knew what he saw.
Based on Tim’s account of the ring’s trajectory, we decided to expand the search area beyond the original yard and into the neighboring property. That decision made all the difference. After carefully scanning the adjacent backyard, the metal detector gave a strong, unmistakable signal. Hidden in the grass was Tim’s wedding ring—well concealed, but right where the physics of the throw suggested it might be.
Handing the ring back to Tim was the best part of the job. What began as a moment of loss ended with relief, gratitude, and a powerful reminder that sometimes answers lie just beyond where we first think to look.
Another ring recovered—and another story with a happy ending

Houston Metal Detecting Services – Awesome Wedding Ring Recovery

  • from Sugar Land (Texas, United States)
Not every recovery takes place on a beach or in a lake—sometimes the lost treasures are hiding just a few feet from home.
I received a call from Gabriel in Houston, who was understandably anxious. The previous night, during a heavy rainstorm, his wife stepped out of his truck in their driveway. As she reached to swing the door closed, her loose-fitting wedding ring slipped from her finger and vanished into the thick grass along the side yard. Despite hours of searching on their hands and knees, the ring seemed to have disappeared without a trace.
When I arrived the next afternoon, Gabriel walked me through exactly what happened. The grass was deep and wet from the rain, the kind of ground where a small ring can easily sink out of sight.
Just a few minutes into the search, a solid signal rang out near the area Gabriel suspected. A quick sweep of the pinpointer, a gentle push through the grass—and there it was, his wife’s wedding ring resting just beneath the surface, hidden by the blades.
The look of relief on Gabriel’s face said it all. Moments later, he placed the ring back into his wife’s hand, and you could feel the weight of the moment—one more memory preserved, one more sentimental treasure recovered.
Always a privilege to help bring these stories full circle.

Houston Metal Detecting Services – Texas A&M Class of 2000 Ring Recovery

  • from Sugar Land (Texas, United States)
Houston Metal Detecting Services – Texas A&M Class of 2000 Ring Recovery
Two weeks ago, Steven reached out with a tough request: help finding his lost Texas A&M Class of 2000 ring at A.D. Dyess Park in East Houston.
Steven explained that while coaching a softball practice, the unthinkable happened. Between hitting grounders in the outfield, he took off his ring and slipped it into his pocket. Later, after running across the field several times, he remembered pulling his phone from that same pocket and suspected that’s when the ring was lost. The problem? Steven wasn’t sure where in the outfield it had happened.
Over the following two weeks, Steven conducted an extensive search. He even purchased his own metal detector and scanned the field multiple times, but with no luck. That’s when he decided to call in professional help.
The Recovery Effort
I met Steven today at the field, and together we set up visual grid markers to organize the search. We discussed his detector, reviewed the settings, and assigned him a sector of the field to work on. While Steven worked his grid carefully, I began expanding my search beyond the marked area.
It didn’t take long before I hit a strong signal about five feet outside Steven’s search grid. I quickly repositioned four of the grid markers around the signal and called out, “Let’s take a break.”
As Steven walked back across the outfield, I asked him to run his own detector over the marked area—just to confirm it was working properly. Within a few swings, his machine gave a solid hit. Steven looked down and there it was: his Texas A&M Class of 2000 ring shining back at him from the grass.
The Moment
The look on Steven’s face was absolutely priceless. After weeks of searching and countless hours of effort, his ring was finally back where it belonged.
This recovery marks another memorable success for Houston Metal Detecting Services—bringing us up to around 40 Texas A&M class rings returned to their owners. Every one of them carries a unique story, and Steven’s recovery is another reminder of why we enjoy doing this work.

Texas A&M Class Ring Recovered from Murky Tiki Island Waters

  • from Sugar Land (Texas, United States)
Texas A&M Class Ring Recovered from Murky Tiki Island Waters
Today, Houston Metal Detecting Services successfully reunited a 1985 Texas A&M class ring with its rightful owner—Tim, a Colorado resident—after it spent the last several months buried beneath the murky waters of a residential canal on Tiki Island.
Back in March, Tim was visiting friends on Tiki Island when the unexpected happened. While standing on the second-story deck of the home, tossing chips to a flock of eager seagulls, Tim said he felt his ring slip off his finger mid-throw. He watched in disbelief as it arced through the air and disappeared into the water, about 25 feet out from the balcony into the canal below.
Despite making several attempts to retrieve it himself over the following days, diving into the canal’s zero-visibility water, Tim quickly learned that the bottom was a thick, mucky mess—making the task next to impossible.
Months passed. Unsure whether recovery was even feasible, Tim contacted a local metal detecting club in the Galveston area, who referred him to Houston Metal Detecting Services, recognizing the technical difficulty of such a recovery: deep open water, zero visibility, and a silty bottom.
Tim and I spoke about the challenges, and he mentioned he was planning another visit to his friends’ home on Tiki Island. We agreed to meet that weekend to evaluate the area. A bottom probe revealed a 2–5 inch layer of soft muck resting atop a firmer base—making the ring potentially recoverable with the right equipment and precision technique.
With a plan in place, the actual search took place today. After carefully marking the suspected drop zone, suiting up, and working methodically through the silted bottom, the unmistakable ping of the detector confirmed what we were hoping for: Tim’s class ring was still there.
The ring was successfully recovered and, as the attached photos show, Tim is once again the proud owner of his cherished 1985 Texas A&M ring—and he’ll be taking it back home to Colorado as a symbol of both Aggie pride and persistence.
Another recovery complete. Another story added to the adventure.

Episode 44, Saving Caden’s Texas A&M Ring, Galveston, Texas

  • from Sugar Land (Texas, United States)
Saving Caden’s Texas A&M Ring, Galveston, Texas
Texas A&M Class Ring Recovered from Galveston Waters – A Technical Dive by Houston Metal Detecting Services
Caden reached out to Houston Metal Detecting Services after losing his Texas A&M class ring at a friend’s family home in Galveston. While relaxing on a second-story dock overlooking the bay, the ring slipped from his hand and vanished into about 10 inches of water below.
What seemed like a shallow loss quickly turned into a technical challenge. The area beneath the dock was a zero-visibility environment—murky water, soft silt, and tight spaces between barnacle-covered pilings. Standard searching wasn’t going to cut it.
We arrived prepared with full underwater SCUBA gear and a custom-built grid system tailored for blind recoveries in tight and murky environments. With the grid in place, we conducted a methodical underwater search by feel and metal detector tone—sweeping slowly and thoroughly to avoid missing anything in the muck.
Roughly 40 minutes into the dive, we got a clean, solid signal. Reaching down into the soft sand, we located the ring—Caden’s Texas A&M class ring, buried but unharmed.
Seeing the relief and excitement on Caden’s face as we handed the ring back made every moment underwater worth it. It was more than just a ring—it was a piece of Aggie pride, and a memory now saved.
Houston Metal Detecting Services — Tough conditions. Precise results. We recover what others can’t.

Training the Next Generation: Crime Scene Metal Detector Course in New Jersey

I recently had the opportunity to travel to New Jersey to teach a specialized Crime Scene Metal Detector Operations course through TRITECH Forensics, hosted by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office.

The class brought together a dedicated group of professionals—investigators and crime scene technicians from both the prosecutor’s office and surrounding law enforcement agencies. Their shared mission: to sharpen their skills and expand their capabilities in metal detector use at crime scenes.

Over the course of the training, we focused heavily on the practical application of metal detectors for evidence recovery, with a strong emphasis on locating spent shell casings—an often critical piece of evidence in shooting investigations.

From understanding search patterns and detector tones to mastering real-world recovery techniques, participants engaged hands-on in exercises designed to simulate crime scene conditions. By the end of the course, they not only gained new technical skills but also a deeper appreciation for the role metal detecting can play in building stronger, evidence-based cases.

It was an honor to work alongside such motivated professionals and to contribute to the evolving standards of crime scene investigations.
