I received a call from Susan who was quite distraught about losing her necklace. The one she bought when she was 21. Now, 43 years later, the necklace was lost when she swiped at our seriously nasty mosquitoes. After searching herself using a rake in the grass she looked for help and found me.  I came out the next day and she brought me to where she lost it. She knew where it was because she marked the path with a chalk X (Brilliant!) The path turned out to be the paved path that travels the length of the provincial park in our city. Dozens, even hundreds of people used the path between when the necklace was lost and when I arrived.  Susan began her own search and I set up my detector to search the grass along the edge of the path. I had barely begun when I caught a glint of gold on the pathway. I pulled out my camera and captured the moment when she received her necklace.

The evening of July 25/20, I lost my necklace in Fish Creek Park, Calgary. On a Google search I found Evan’s name, and phoned him the next afternoon.
Evan met me in the park a couple of hours after phoning him.  I did have the location marked where I lost my necklace, and with Evan’s experience,  found it in no time.  Evan is a skilled professional, who genuinely cares.  I felt very comfortable around him.  I highly recommend Evan’s services.

If you take your ring off, be careful where you put it.  Curtis told me what happened. The ring wasn’t on the hard pack shale of the diamond, so it was somewhere between the diamond and the car. Thank goodness it wasn’t too far. After doing a sweep along the path he likely would have taken, I had a thought. The next most likely place would be where he loaded the ball bag into the car. So we headed up to the grass strip between the side walk and the road. I started there and after a couple of moments, Curtis spoke up. « Just a minute! » and walked onto the street.

After searching for my ring late into the evening without success, I discovered Evan‘s services. I had originally called to leave a message but, despite the hour, Evan answered. I was amazed by his genuine care and concern, professionalism and complete willingness to help. He agreed to meet the next evening to help me search. Meeting in person, Evan was just as kind, sincere and helpful! He was thorough in his approach to finding my lost ring. Interestingly, while observing Evan, I noticed a glint of light on the road near where my car had been parked the previous night and it turned out to be my ring. Had Evan not agreed to help me search once again, and been so methodical, I would not have noticed it! Thank you very much Evan! Your kindness is inspirational. God bless you!

June 17/20 I received a call from a gentleman that had lost his ring in tall grass on a farm where he was doing some siding. The thing about the ring that makes this so important was that he was the fourth generation owner. It belonged to his great grandfather and has been passed down until it reached him. On top of that, the initials on the ring are that same as his and each generation before.

After searching several days, and mowing the grass down, he still had not found it. That’s when he called me.  We met in Langdon and drove the 7 km to the farm. I grabbed my gear and we walked to the spot. He described how he had shaken his hand and where he believed it had flown.

Two short passes over the 10 square metre space and a little over the edge into the tall grass and sure enough there it was. The owner was ecstatic.  It is so much fun to put a smile on someone’s face!!!

Second Time’s a Charm.

May 14, 2020– I was given a reference from another detectorist that had tried to help earlier in the day. Lena had lost a very small white gold pendant off her necklace when it was snagged on a tree branch while mowing the lawn. When I called her she was hesitant as there was only an hour left of light and she had an early start to her next day at work. Besides, the other detectorist had spent a couple of hours and had searched the entire yard. I told I would get there asap and would quit when she needed to call it a night. She agreed. When I arrived, I asked all kinds of questions and had her show me what happened. Based on her description, I was pretty sure it would be very close to where it happened. Using the sniper coil proved to be the right tool. After 10 minutes of searching, even the faintest signals, we came across one about two steps from where it happened. Deep in the grass among the roots was a tiny glint. At first I thought it was tinfoil, but upon closer inspection it turned out to be her pendant. Her first anniversary gift from her boyfriend. I know we are doing the covid social distancing thing, but I didn’t have a chance.  She gave me the biggest hug while I was still kneeling on the ground. It felt great to get a hug and great to help someone out.

I was mowing my lawn and a tree branch caught my necklace and broke the chain, my diamond pendant was gone. I searched for hours through the thick grass with no luck. I was very upset as my boyfriend gave it to me on our first anniversary . Someone suggested I get a hold of the metal detecting club. One guy came out and searched my entire yard with  no luck. He told me it would be hard to find as it was half the size of a pinky nail and was white gold with diamonds and wouldn’t put off a strong signal.  I thought it was gone forever. Then I got a call from Evan and he convinced me to have him come out and take a look. I was so happy and astounded that he was able to find it in 20 minutes. thanks Evan, you put the biggest smile on my face.

May 12. 2020 –  Got a call tonight. Young lady playing volleyball in the back yard. While ducking under the net she caught her earring in the net and the diamond stud was gone!!  Since they had a good idea of where it was, I put my sniper on and scanned the earring that she still had. Off I went to work. It is amazing how much grass gets compacted when people crawl on their hands and knees looking for a lost item. I certainly wasn’t under the net.  I asked her to recreate what happened. When she did, it was evident that the stud may have been sling shotted a distance away. Started a search in the new area and sure enough, there it was. About 6 feet from the net. I pointed it out and she pounced. Big smile!!

Rings Can Fly

May 1 – I received a call from a gentleman living out Okotoks way. His wedding band had gone missing. Turns out that that meant he had in an off moment, taken his ring off and thrown it off the balcony the previous weekend. After having unsuccessfully searched for it in the area where it landed he called me in. He was right about where it landed. It wasn’t hard to find with the detector but it was laying totally flat with a stone in the middle. A quick search and a grateful owner.
