On one particular beautiful summer sunny day, I was metal detecting along the surf in Ocean City, Maryland when I was contacted by a young lady named Sarah. Her newlywed husband of less than a year, named Abdul, lost his 14 karat white gold wedding band somewhere in the sand near their beach things. The man saw the ring fly off his finger when he was clapping his hands together out of excitement for something fun that was being shared between he and his wife on the beach.

Coincidentally, I was less than a block away from where the couple frantically looked for their missing ring.  Out of a hundred and fifty Ocean City beach blocks, I happened to be on the same block, on the sand, no more than 100 feet away from them! It was meant to be that I was supposed to help this lovely couple out!

As I looked around I could see a young lady approach me and introduced herself as Sarah. She was so happy that I was close by and still on the beach because I was about to leave just a few minutes later.

Sarah then took me over to where all of their belongings were and I had the privilege of meeting Abdul. They were just the nicest couple ever, so full of much happiness and life!

I asked all of the necessary questions as to how the ring came off of Abdul’s finger and the approximate area where he was sitting at the time that the wedding band disappeared. Once I got the clear picture of what happened and what type of precious metal that we were looking for, I grabbed my metal detector and began the search.

The recovery of Abdul’s most treasured ring took all of 60 seconds! As soon as I came across the first target that could be heard on my detector, I knelt down in the hot dry sand and took out my handheld metal detector to locate the exact location of the target. I then placed my fingers in the sand until I felt a halo-type shaped object. I knew at that moment that I had found what Abdul and Sarah had been searching for for the longest time!

The couple was so happy that they called upon me to find Abdul’s missing ring! Everyone nearby celebrated with the newlyweds knowing that their very special « love story » (which was represented by this ring) was safely back in their possession once again!

Abdul and Sarah could not stop thanking me, and likewise, I couldn’t stop thanking them for giving me the opportunity and privilege to help out such a very special newlywed couple!

Lost and Found Diamond Wedding Band in Germantown, Maryland Bushes

  • from Washington (District of Columbia, United States)

Kelly’s Beautiful and Elegant 14 Karat White Gold Diamond Wedding Band Finally Reunited With its Enhancer!

Happiness Prevails Once Again as Kelly Proudly Displays Her Most Precious Material Possession on Earth!

BRIAN RUDOLPH, LOST ITEM RECOVERY SPECIALIST (LAND, WATER, SAND, SNOW, LEAVES, HOUSES & VEHICLES) WILL FIND YOUR LOST KEEPSAKE! CALL ASAP (301) 466-8644!

I had the privilege of providing a search and recovery metal detecting service for Kelly and Jim in Germantown, Maryland.

The couple was relaxing and drinking wine on their wrap around porch one evening. Kelly took off her enhancer ring which surrounded the 14 karat white gold wedding band and put it on the table where the wine glasses sat.

One of their sons came out with a stick and wanted to show them something about it. He accidentally knocked the rings off of the table along with at least one of the wine glasses which broke on the floor.

The couple looked for the two rings and they quickly found the enhancer resting across the floor, but not the wedding band. For an entire week, Jim and Kelly searched diligently for the missing ring but ended up having no answers to show for their many hours of searching with a metal detector.

Jim shared that the metal detector they used kept making beeping sounds and they got simply nowhere with it. It was picking up all kinds of metal from the house, including nails and other miscellaneous items, but not what they were looking for.

Jim found me on THE RING FINDERS international metal detectorist directory website and then reached out to me as soon as they realized that they needed a professional metal detectorist to help them. He explained to me that finding the ring was one of their top priorities because they were packing up their things and moving to their new house in Florida in just one week! It was obviously essential for me to be successful with this ring search call-out to their home! I couldn’t wait to solve this mystery!

When I arrived at the family’s home, I was greeted by one of the children outside by my car. All of the kids were just fantastic to be around! They all wanted to learn about metal detecting and see how I would find the missing ring.

After I introduced myself to Jim and Kelly, they showed me where they were sitting on the porch and where they found the enhancer ring. I noticed that the bushes in front of the entire wrap around porch area were extremely dense, nearly 12 feet deep from the edge of the porch all the way to where the lawn began.

The couple shared with me that they looked for hours upon hours, day after day for an entire week, searching endlessly for the missing wedding band. They were just completely exhausted with all of their attempts.

Once I got the whole story as to what happened that caused the one ring to completely disappear, I gave my word to Kelly and Jim that they would get the ring back in time for their move the following week! I certainly hoped that I was going to recover the lost jewel that evening if all possible.

I went to the car and got all of the equipment that I needed to conduct the search. I even brought my endoscope with me in order to look down into the porch floor boards just in case there was enough space for the ring to have slipped down into a large enough crack in the wood. Upon checking all of the gaps between the boards, there was not enough room for the ring to fall down into the porch flooring.

Next, I began metal detecting in the bushes next to the porch and I began pulling up all kinds of kiddy toys and miscellaneous pieces of metal. There were pull tabs and nails along with rolled up pieces of aluminum foil that were once imaginary play things for the children. I thought that was really sentimental and fun to uncover! The parents got a kick out of it! I used a 6-inch coil on the end of my detector to search the hard to get to places and I carefully inspected the areas where there were some electrical lines that were no longer in use. Still I could not find Kelly’s beautiful wedding band.

While I was conducting the search, all of the children played around my working area and interacted with me regarding their curiosities about my methods of metal detecting. They always had something fun to show me and I was quite honored that they seemed to feel comfortable approaching me and including me in their own outdoor endeavors!

Once I cleared a particular area of ground surrounded by a section of bushes, I moved to another part and carefully examined every square inch possible of that quadrant. I used my pinpointer to search in the branches just in case the ring ended up landing « above ground »! The hedges were extremely thick and it was quite possible the ring could have absolutely landed in the middle of some branches and needles.

The thickets were so dense that I thought it to be almost impossible for Kelly’s wedding band to have made it more than a few feet into the bushes based on how thick the whole area was down there. I metal detected from the edge of the porch to about 5 feet into the shrubs. I conducted the search all the way around that entire side of the porch, making certain that I didn’t miss anything. With my headlamp on full blaze, I illuminated all of the dark areas down below and kept a watchful eye for the missing ring even in places where I was not able to metal detect. Still, I came up with nothing.

After about an hour and 45 minutes, I decided to move around to the other side of the bushes and start metal detecting from the lawn in towards the dense forest of shrubs! Looking straight at the porch from the grass, I started at the far right side which would have been on the extreme right side of where the couple was drinking their wine on that dreadful evening when the ring disappeared. I like to start outside the box and end up outside of the same box where most people would consider the area too unrealistic to search when looking for the lost item. Quite often I discover that the ring ends up much farther than where the client thought to search which is why the client never was able to find what he / she was looking for.

I worked diligently, metal detecting the grounds beneath the bushes and within the branches above. I moved from the right side over to the left area, heading towards the front of the house. Again, I found some of the children’s play things and homemade crafts, as well.

I got to a point in the search where I was about 15 feet away from the porch on a diagonal angle through the bushes with my feet just touching the grass. I had my body slightly leaning forward into the shrubs. The particular area of bushes that I was detecting was so far away from where the couple was sitting, (which would have made it probably around 20 feet in total) that no one in their right mind could conceive the thought that the ring had a chance of making it through 15 feet of thick bushes and then settle just inches away from the clearing where the grass began on the other side. Well, to my greatest surprise, that’s exactly what happened! My detector gave me a very intriguing signal, indicating that there was a potential target just underneath one of the bushes next to the clearing of the flower bed. I leaned down to inspect the area where the detector was picking up the signal. Just as I was putting my pinpointer in the region where the metal was located, my eyes locked on to the most beautiful diamond wedding band! It was wedged up against the trunk of one of the bushes in plain sight! I was beyond amazed at how that ring rocketed that far through all of the dense shrubs, almost clearing the entire bed! It seems like the moment that I think I’ve seen it all, there’s something else that blows my mind and this was clearly another example of such a moment!

I was so happy to have found Kelly’s missing wedding band and I was even more excited to surprise the family with it shortly after I solved the mystery of where that beloved ring had ended up! Kelly and Jim could not have been more thrilled and relieved that I had successfully recovered their beloved sentimental piece of gold and gorgeous diamonds! They too had their minds blown away when I showed them the exact spot of where that ring settled to the ground after their son innocently caused the rings to jettison from the porch table!

After I shared my findings with the family, we all celebrated with the most delicious homemade cookies that Kelly had made earlier that day! I was then given the grand tour of their lovely home that they were about to say goodbye to.

Now that I had found one of the couple’s most precious belongings that had gone mysteriously missing for over a week, Jim and Kelly were finally emotionally ready to start packing for their journey down south to Florida!

Lost Gold Wedding Band…Found on Boonsboro, Maryland Lawn

  • from Washington (District of Columbia, United States)

John’s 14 Karat Gold Wedding Band Back in View Again!

John Proudly Displays One of His Most Precious Possessions Recovered by Brian Rudolph

BRIAN RUDOLPH, LOST ITEM RECOVERY SPECIALIST (LAND, WATER, SAND, SNOW, LEAVES, HOUSES & VEHICLES) WILL FIND YOUR LOST KEEPSAKE! CALL ASAP (301) 466-8644!

I got a call from a guy named John who said that he lost his ring while lawn mowing a few days earlier. He got off of the seat of the mower to brush off some of the grass cuttings that ended up on top of the mower. As he was flicking the clippings away from the machine, he felt his 14 karat yellow gold wedding band fly off of his finger.

John really didn’t think it was going to be a big deal finding his ring in the grass because he knew that it was in the vicinity of where he was cleaning the mower. He had not moved from that spot because the mower was stationary. So he searched and searched but he couldn’t find the ring anywhere. He then acquired a metal detector and he figured that he would be able to find his wedding band with no problem. That too became another unsuccessful attempt.

This whole ordeal became perplexing to John and so he went online to search the best way to find a missing ring on the lawn. THE RING FINDERS website popped up and within minutes, John located my information and called me up to seek my help.

On the phone, I listened to John’s account and I told him that I would have his ring back on his finger by the time I would leave his estate the following evening. He was quite encouraged but he had some doubts because he said that he tried everything to find this ring and it was as if it disappeared into thin air.

The next evening, I headed to Boonsboro, Maryland in order to help recover John’s lost keepsake. He had a very large estate! I believe it may have been five acres just in the front yard! However, according to John, we would not be metal detecting a large area since he remembered exactly where his lawn mower sat at the time that the ring went flying.

I remember how dark it was that evening because there were no street lights near his property. I put on my high lumens headlamp, greeted John who walked down to my car (which was at the end of a very long driveway) and then we moved our way over to the search site. John showed me where the lawn mower was when he flicked the grass cuttings off of the seat. I then asked him what direction he was moving his arm and hand at the time of the incident. He showed me exactly where he was placed and how his body moved forward in the direction facing the main lawn area. Also, I inquired as to where John was searching with the metal detector, even though he came up empty-handed. I wanted to get an idea of how far across the lawn he actually searched just in case he undershot his targeted area.

After I got the whole story from John and we covered all of the details as to what happened and where everything took place, I returned to my car to get all of my gear and then headed back to the location where I would be metal detecting. It was a good long walk across the perfectly manicured grass. My client returned to his house where he relaxed while I took care of the search.

I began my grid lines starting at the place where John parked his mower at the time of the « ring fling ». I moved across the lawn approximately 25 to 30 ft. When nothing came up on my machine, I started the next grid line, moving back towards where John’s mower was. Still, nothing appeared on my detector screen. I did another grid line across the grass and still there were no tones indicating that there was any lost jewelry out there.

A few times during my short search, I would encounter a few decent signals all to find out that I was picking up small pieces of aluminum which came from some beer cans that had been shredded by the lawn mower. I had gotten quite excited each time I hit an encouraging signal but when I looked down into the grass, there were just pieces of ‘can slaw’!

Finally, I decided to push my search a little bit beyond the footage that I initially gridded. It only took seconds before I hit a fantastic signal! I didn’t get too excited because of what I encountered earlier, but I was optimistic that I had found John’s lost wedding band. I knelt down on the grass and took my pinpointer to zero-in on the target. Just as the beeping sound could be heard from my handheld detector, I saw the most spectacular piece of shiny yellow gold popping through the blades of grass! I did in fact find John’s missing ring! It must have taken me less than three minutes to find his band from start to finish! John had not searched far enough onto the lawn. He was probably off by about 15 to 20 feet because he didn’t think that his ring flew that far across his front yard! This is very common for others as well when they are looking for their lost items!

I was thrilled to reveal my findings with John soon after I walked to his front door (which took longer to get to his front door than the entire time I was metal detecting on his lawn!). He had one big property! John couldn’t believe where I found his wedding band! I explained to him that this happens all the time! People just don’t look far enough because they just don’t think it’s possible for their ring to fly that far from where it came off the person’s finger!

It was a wonderful time celebrating with John out there on his beautiful green grass in the middle of the night! We both left the ‘scene of the crime’ with huge smiles on our faces! He was completely relieved to get his wedding band back! I kept my word to John…he did in fact have that ring back on his finger before re-entering his Boonsboro home that evening!

Lost Gold Wedding Band… Found in Annapolis, Maryland’s Severn River

  • from Washington (District of Columbia, United States)

Justin’s Handsome 14 Karat Gold Wedding Band Shining Above the Waters of the Severn River!

Justin and One of His Sons Proudly Displaying the Very Large Wedding Band that Had Settled to the Bottom of the Severn River for Almost Two Weeks!

BRIAN RUDOLPH, LOST ITEM RECOVERY SPECIALIST (LAND, WATER, SAND, HOUSES & VEHICLES) WILL FIND YOUR LOST KEEPSAKE! CALL ASAP (301) 466-8644!

I received a phone call from a gentleman named Justin who explained to me that he lost his 14 karat yellow gold wedding band while he was playing with his children in the Severn River located in Annapolis, Maryland. The family loves to visit grandma and grandpa who live in the Sherwood Forest community which overlooks the beautiful water. Justin went on to explain that he was picking up his children and throwing them into the water when he believed that he saw his wedding band fly off his finger. The desperate man attempted to dive to the bottom of the river to see if he could claim his most precious keepsake, but unfortunately he couldn’t find the ring anywhere. Justin realized at that point that there was no other possibility of recovering his ring other than contacting a professional metal detectorist who could either search while wading in the water or dive below to recover the band. He looked online and found the elite international metal detecting service directory called THE RING FINDERS. There were two detectorists in his area, so he contacted a fellow out his way and then the other was me, Brian Rudolph.

Once I heard the entire story of what happened to Justin’s ring, I shared with the gentleman that I would be more than happy to help him recover this lost keepsake. He expressed that he wanted to get it back as soon as possible. I thought that was very “chivalrous” of him because he wanted the symbol of his love back on his finger right away! That’s how much he loves his wife! We set up a time for me to come out to the private gated community sometime in the afternoon the following day. I couldn’t wait to get into the water. Justin said that the water was approximately five to six feet in depth when he was playing with his children at the time that the ring got lost in the water. This fellow measured around 6 feet, 2 inches tall, so he didn’t feel uncomfortable in the deeper section off of the private beach along the pier area.

I mentioned to Justin that if the tide brought in a depth of water over 5 feet, 2 inches or more, I would most likely have to return with air supply so that I could dive for the ring. He thought that I would be able to recover the item without having to bring dive gear. We exchanged information and I told him that I couldn’t wait to meet the family and return this very special piece of property to his hand once again.

Early the next morning, I was woken up by a phone call from the other metal detectorist who serves the Annapolis, Maryland area. I didn’t know who the gentleman was because I had never met the other detectorist, but once he explained who he was, he went on to share that he had just come out of the Severn River and was unable to recover Justin’s wedding band. Even for the 6 foot tall detectorist, the water was too deep and his metal detector stopped working when it got flooded by water entering its inner housing compartment. Even though it was a waterproof detector, the Severn River got the best of it. Apparently, the fellow got called out to help prior to my call and he wanted to let me know what I would be up against when I would come out later that day. The guy was shivering and I felt so bad that he endured such conditions trying to help dear old Justin.

After thanking the detectorist for calling me and giving me the update, I called the client and the two of us discussed a new strategy. Instead of me coming out that particular day and experience water that would be too deep for me to wade in the river, I decided that the best thing to do would be to bring out my air supply and dive for the ring. Justin was completely on board and he was willing to wait another week until I had my new trailer hitch attached to the vehicle so I could haul my additional equipment (my other car died six months earlier and I needed a new receiver attached to my latest vehicle). I greatly appreciated his patience as it would take a few extra days to get an appointment at the hitch center.

We had talked on a Monday and we were hoping by Saturday I could get out to the river and conduct the recovery. Unfortunately, I would not be able to have the hitch put on until later that Saturday afternoon, and therefore we would have to postpone the search for another day. Then, weather conditions got rough during the following week and it wasn’t until Friday of that week (11 days after Justin initially called me) that I was able to make the trip to Annapolis, Maryland to conduct the recovery operation.

Finally, the day arrived when I was able to meet up with Justin and his family out by the private community beach and conduct the search for Justin’s missing wedding band. The day was simply picture-perfect! There were only blue and sunny skies and it felt warm and comfortable outside.

I couldn’t wait to get in the water! I arrived at the gated community around 4:15pm on that Friday afternoon. Justin met me outside the gate and I then followed him into Sherwood Forest as he took me to the private beach area where he believed he saw the ring fly off his finger. I will never forget how exclusive I felt as I drove behind Justin’s vehicle and passed the community golf course and country club, along with exquisite homes and beautiful landscaping all about. Eventually everything in front of me opened up to this most magnificent natural painting of God’s gorgeous creation of the vast water of the Severn River with sailboats and other vessels moving across the water as people enjoyed their summer fun! We drove parallel with the river and finally we reached the parking area where the beach was located.

There were plenty of people in the water and enjoying the summer day. It was hot outside and delightful in every regard. I loved seeing all the activity with families and children moving about along the shore. Children were enjoying their play time in the water, as well.

As soon as we both parked, Justin and I officially met one another “face mask to face mask” and then he promptly took me onto the pier, which was perpendicular to the lovely sandy beach. He walked me all the way to the very end of the boards and it was there that he pointed out towards the water where Justin claimed that he saw his ring slip off his finger and head down below. I didn’t waste any time and immediately got into the river and checked out my surroundings. Obviously, the tide was being good to me as I was able to still have my head above water. I realized that my six-foot metal detectorist friend who came out nearly 2 weeks earlier didn’t have such favor. It turned out that I didn’t need to use the air supply after all based on what I discovered regarding the tide flow at that point in the day.

I looked at Justin and I said to him, “What’s the big deal here? Let’s do this!” He smiled and shrugged his shoulders. I told him this was no big deal and I headed back to the car to pull out all of my gear. I couldn’t wait to recover Justin’s cherished wedding band!

Once I got everything I needed out of the vehicle, I transported my Xtreme sand scoop made by fellow Ring Finder directory member, John Volek, along with my metal detector, harness, floating sifter (to dump sand and shells into in order to detect for precious metal), waterproof headphones and my pinpointer. I was ready for business!

As I made my way into the water from the sandy shore, everyone looked on to see what was going to happen. I saw Justin on the pier near to my route in the water and I said to him, “I’ll be back with your ring”. We both smiled and I just knew that I would love every minute of this search!

Once I got to the spot where I needed to start searching, I began my imaginary water grid line as far out as I possibly could, but starting closest to the pier pilings. Slowly and methodically I moved from west to east and then back again towards the pilings. When I reached a distance that I knew was way too far from where Justin could have lost the ring, I moved back in the direction from where I came and continued adding to the gridlines, moving slowly in the direction towards shore. As I slowly metal detected the bottom of the river, one of Justin’s sons swam over to me. I asked the kid what his recollection was regarding where he had been thrown off of his dad’s shoulders and he confirmed that I was searching in the right area.

I continued with my consistent grid pattern, moving the coil underwater back and forth, hoping to pull up a signal that I was all so very familiar with regarding classic men’s 14 karat yellow gold wedding bands like Justin’s! I did find a few random targets, including a BMW key fob. I also found different parts and pieces that came off of boats and other types of equipment which ended up at the bottom of the river. Yet, I still had not found the item that I was commissioned to recover. Each time I pulled up something, I would hold up the artifact high in the air and the large audience of adults and children along the beach were keeping watch of what I was discovering.

It was sometime around the fifteenth minute mark into the search when I hit a similar signal that the metal detector had picked up a few minutes earlier. I was hoping that this particular target would in fact be Justin’s wedding band. The visual display indicator numbers on my screen were coming up in the range of exactly what I was looking for. I knew that Justin’s fingers were quite thick and large, so we were definitely looking for something that had some serious weight to it and plenty of gold to go around. I used the same method to search the bottom as with all of my other targets that I pursued earlier. I pushed my sand scoop down into the sand at the bottom of the river and then brought the scoop to my side so that I could metal detect that particular spot to see if I grabbed the object or not. Unfortunately, I missed the item and repeated the same sequence of actions. Once again, when I moved the scoop of sand and shells off to the side and then waved the metal detector coil back and forth in the area of where I was scooping, I still was getting that same target signal down below. I was determined to find out what this object was and I would not move on until I had my answer.

Once again, I pursued the target and aimed my scoop right in front of me and pushed as far down as I could into the sand and silt. Then, I brought the loaded scoop over to the side to see if I had success in removing the piece of metal from its resting place. To my excitement, when I swung the coil back and forth at the bottom of the river in that spot where I was working, there was no longer any indication that a piece of metal was in that location. Whatever I had detected, it was now in the scoop. I then lifted the sand scoop up above the water and then flipped it to remove the contents onto the floating sifter that was tethered to my detector harness.

It was now time to inspect what was dumped onto the sifter and see if I hit the bull’s-eye. Well, to my overwhelming delight, buried in the middle of all of that sand, shells, silt, and clams, I saw a fantastic sight to behold! I caught a glimpse of a yellow gold ring piercing through the pile. I did it! I successfully found Justin’s handsome yellow gold wedding band! With excitement and elation, I picked up the huge piece of jewelry and held it up in the air and yelled to Justin and all of the others, “I got it! I found the ring!” Everybody along the shore and the kids in the water all began clapping and congratulating me on the recovery of Justin’s ring! I was so glad that I was able to find his band when I did because the tide was moving in quite quickly and I only had just a handful of minutes left before the water would be above my mouth area. I walked from out of the deep area towards the sandy beach holding the ring up high and showing everyone what came from the depths of the Severn River!

Justin was beyond thrilled at this fabulous success story! Everything happened so fast and I couldn’t have been happier that we were able to recover the item without any confusion or complications! Sometimes water searches are not so easy as there are so many factors that play into how the ring gets lost and what people remember at the time of the disappearance. This search and recovery was definitely in the books as a quick and easy recovery! Justin kept thanking me over and over again as he placed that large ring on his finger! He introduced me to his wife, Kelly, and their two boys that were hanging out around me gathered to see what I had pulled from the bottom of the river. Some of the community members yelled over to congratulate me and I in turn thanked everyone for their kindness and support. I was just so happy to get this very sentimental keepsake back to its proper owner!

It was truly a wonderful story on that beautiful summer afternoon! I was so elated that Justin believed in my abilities enough to wait over a week and a half for me to make the hour trip to the Severn River and lift that handsome piece of gold from the depths of the water and return it back to the one who received it many years ago from his beloved bride on their most precious wedding day! Indeed, I certainly love what I do and I love doing it for people like Justin, Kelly and their two boys!

Liana’s Beautiful Diamond Engagement Ring Posing Amongst the Blueberries!

Casey Holding His Fiance Liana’s Most Gorgeous Engagement Ring!

BRIAN RUDOLPH, LOST ITEM RECOVERY SPECIALIST (LAND, WATER, SAND, HOUSES & VEHICLES) WILL FIND YOUR LOST KEEPSAKE! CALL ASAP (301) 466-8644!

A young lady named Liana contacted me one morning with desperation in her voice. She explained to me that she and her fiancé, Casey, spent the afternoon at Butler’s Orchard, located in Gaithersburg, Maryland. They were picking blueberries and enjoying their time together until Liana noticed that her lovely 14 karat yellow gold,1 carat diamond solitaire engagement ring was missing from her finger.

The couple was placing blueberries in their bucket somewhere in the blueberry bush field when Liana realized what had gone missing. Of course, the couple was very alarmed by this and immediately they began their search back at the car and then worked their way around the field, looking between each row of blueberry bushes, hoping to find one of their most cherished possessions. They tried desperately to retrace Liana’s steps in order to figure out where the ring may have fallen off of her finger. She knew that she had been wearing it to the orchard because Liana clearly remembered having it on her finger upon arriving at the blueberry bush field. Also, the couple shared with me that Liana had returned to the car sometime during their picking time in order to refresh her skin with a wet wipe. She in turn moisturized her fingers with another wipe and they believed that perhaps that is what caused the ring to easily slip off Liana’s finger somewhere in the orchard.

After searching long and hard, the couple had to call it quits for the day because the orchard was closing soon. They let the staff know that Liana’s ring was lost and inquired as to whether or not someone else had found it and reported it to the office. Sadly, no such claim was documented. Liana and Casey had to leave the orchard empty-handed and greatly hoped that the ring might be recovered the following day.

That evening, Liana and Casey looked online to see if there was a way they could rent a metal detector to assist in their search the next morning. While they were browsing the net, they stumbled across the elite international metal detecting service directory called THE RING FINDERS. It was at that moment that they thought to themselves that perhaps it would be best to have a professional do the work for them! They checked to see if there was a metal detecting service in Gaithersburg, Maryland that could help them and they found my name, Brian Rudolph. I was so very happy that they contacted me, and soon they would be extremely happy, as well!

I will never forget the sound of Liana’s voice, expressing how sad she was to have lost her diamond ring. It meant everything to her. The couple was already dealing with the huge disappointment of having to postpone their wedding due to the horrific Covid-19 pandemic. And then this had to happen! I asked Liana and Casey every question in the book so that I had the full story as to when she was wearing the ring last and what might have happened to that very special keepsake of hers.

Not only was I thrilled to help the couple out, but I also thought it would be fun to return to my most favorite orchard in Maryland! Every year since our children were very small, my wife and I took the family to pick blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, apples, and of course pumpkins during the annual October festival. It was definitely a family affair every year! Now, I had the opportunity to help some people find one of their most cherished pieces of property that was lost out in the same field where I had picked blueberries with my own family so many years earlier! This was quite nostalgic indeed.

As soon as I got all the facts about what had happened, I recognized that we had a very small window of time to recover this ring before someone else might find it and perhaps keep it for their very own. I hate to think that people are like this, but from my personal experience with finding rings, this is more common than one might think. Because Liana and Casey were so desperate for my help, I decided to head out to the orchard immediately. I literally threw some clothes on, grabbed all of my gear for a scheduled search later that afternoon, loaded up my car with necessary equipment that I needed for the blueberry bushes and thunder bolted my way out to my favorite orchard in Gaithersburg, Maryland!

That summer morning was just perfect. Though it was quite hot outside, the day could not have been more picture-perfect. As I drove through the fields on the dirt road that took me to the blueberry bushes, I reflected back on all of those very special memories of being out there with my family and enjoying those days of wonder and amusement. I also thought to myself just how fast time marches on now that all three children are grown adults and a couple of them have children of their very own!

Once I got to the search site, a couple of staff members guided me over to the area where Liana and Casey had been searching for their lost ring the day before. They felt very bad for the couple as they described to me how long they searched and how emotional the whole ordeal was for Liana.

I contacted Casey to let him know that I had arrived and he said that he would be joining me shortly. In the meantime, I took out all of my metal detecting equipment and began the search along the grassy area beside the road (which was adjacent and parallel to where the blueberry bushes were lined up). My biggest obstacles were the visitor’s cars that were parked along the grassy shoulder. This was the same area where the couple parked the day before. Vehicle after vehicle started showing up and began parking on the grass, perhaps 4 to 5 feet from where the first row of blueberry bushes began. This made detecting very difficult for me because I was not able to effectively search the parking area. All of the alloy wheels and other metal parts on the cars would easily end up “masking” any small item made of precious metal that might be lying in the grass, near or below where the cars were parked. Therefore, I was only able to detect an isolated strip of territory before entering the blueberry field. If I didn’t find the ring in the blueberry bushes, I planned to search more of the grass once the cars would exit away from the field.

Though I picked up a few decent targets as I moved across the grassy section where the cars were parked, I was not able to find Liana’s yellow gold diamond ring. When I completed that section, I still was not convinced that the ring was not lying somewhere beneath one of the vehicles, but that would have to wait for the time being.

Next, I put down a few soccer cones on either end of the sections where the couple had been picking blueberries and I would use this measurement to grid back and forth down the rows of blueberry bushes. I searched in between each of the plants and I moved the detector coil around each of them, making certain that there were no rings underneath the berries and surrounding territories. Each row that I grid searched was probably about 50 yards in length and it took quite a while to complete one side of the row. When I made it to the other side of the bushes, I would then begin searching in between and around them as well until I reached the other end. I would then start a new row after that.

At some point, Casey arrived at the scene and he confirmed that I was searching the correct area and that he seemed pretty confident that my gridlines were long enough, so as not to miss any of the search zone. He also pointed out that he and Liana picked blueberries in the first five rows of bushes starting from those closest to the parking area. This was extremely helpful because we could narrow our focus quite a bit and not have to wonder if we were missing any important territories.

The two of us investigated the real estate row by row, diligently moving about, hoping to recover this most priceless and sentimental keepsake. I used my 15 inch coil at the end of my detector shaft which allowed me to cover more territory much quicker than any other metal detector coil. Though Casey didn’t have a machine to use to detect metal, he carefully moved about looking between and around each and every blueberry bush.

I remember how hot it was getting in that later part of the morning and then into the early afternoon hours. Every 45 minutes or so, I would take a short break to hydrate myself due to the conditions outside on that spectacular summer day. I thought to myself just how blessed I was to be out in that field helping this couple and enjoying the peaceful and most serene environment! I could not have had it any better! Well, with one exception…if I could recover the engagement ring!

Occasionally Casey and I would intersect with one another during our search endeavors and I encouraged him to not give up. Even though I was getting closer to the end of the fifth row of blueberry bushes, I told him that I find rings for people at the very last moment before I run out of property to search. He appreciated my encouragement and continued on with the hope that the jewel would be discovered. Just as we were talking, we realized that the time was approaching when most of the cars that had been parked along the grass line would be leaving and it would be a perfect opportunity for me to metal detect the grassy section adjacent to the paved road.

As I shared earlier, Liana and Casey had convey to me over the phone that Liana had returned to the vehicle at some point to cool off and wipe her brow with a couple of wipes. She remembered cleaning her fingers with a wipe and it was possible that the ring had slipped off of her finger just as she was getting out of the car to return to blueberry picking with her fiancé. I had asked if maybe she put her beloved treasure on her lap (as many people do when they are lathering their hands with lotion and then forget to put their rings back on their fingers before getting out of the vehicle). Liana believed that she did put the ring back on her finger, but it was possible that the wet wipe helped to lubricate the finger well enough that it might have slipped right off of her hand.

Once I was certain that Liana’s ring was nowhere to be found in and around the five rows of blueberry bushes where the couple had been the day before, I took my gear over to the roadside and began detecting as quickly as I could because new cars would be arriving shortly. Casey moved in the opposite direction and continued his search somewhere farther down the field, just in case he incorrectly estimated where they had been picking their blueberries.

I finished one long strip of grass, which was just overlapping where I had been searching earlier in the late morning hours when I first arrived. I still did not come up with any diamond ring. I then started my next grid line which would be very close to where the right wheels of all of the vehicles were once parked. Still, no ring turned up. I had two more long gridlines left to do before I had no other places to search.

I moved across the parking area and eventually was swinging the detector completely over the territory where the vehicles would have covered the grass below. I would not have been able to detect any of that territory earlier in the day due to all of the parked cars that were stationary at the time. I got to the end of that grid line and I knew at that point that I would be starting my final pass, leaving nothing unsearched. As I had been doing, I moved parallel with the blueberry bush field, carefully making my way across that last section. To make things even more complicated, a car drove by me and started to park in the area that I was about to detect! I was hoping that I could make it all the way to the end of my grid line before other cars would cover the only remaining territory that could have possibly concealed Liana’s cherished ring.

Casey and Liana’s Car Parked Close to the Same Area Where the Ring was Recovered.

Just as I was about 5 to 10 feet away from the car that had just parked in front of my grid line, I got a very promising signal below! I had been getting hits here and there but nothing panned out to being Liana’s lost ring. However, this signal was just exactly what I wanted to hear and what I wanted to read on my detector screen. ‘What would be the odds that I may have found the keepsake within feet of the end of my final grid line?’ I asked myself within. I knelt down and used my hand-held metal detector to search in between the blades of grass that were surrounded by patches of dirt here and there. Just as my fingers rummaged through that one area, I got a glimpse of the most beautiful sight of gold and a big bright sparkling diamond attached! I couldn’t believe what was happening! Yet, I could believe it because I have found numerous items at the very last second of my search attempts and this one would be added to that same ring recovery history book! I did it! I found Liana’s missing diamond ring! I couldn’t wait to surprise Casey with this absolutely fantastic discovery! Apparently, Liana’s ring had slipped off of her finger just as she was leaving her car after cleansing her hands. The jewel was found around the area where the couple’s car must have been parked. Earlier, the vehicle that was parked there would have been literally on top of the ring and I would have never been able to detect it in that location! I was so happy that I had returned to that grassy section to explore its possibilities of what may have been hiding below!

The worn out fellow started walking towards me as I stood beside the spot where I found the ring. It was shortly after his arrival that I revealed to Casey the most wonderful news! In turn, Liana would be pleasantly surprised upon her fiancé’s return home from the orchard! The bride-to-be would be receiving back her most beautiful sentimental engagement ring, found by the one whom they had entrusted with this so very important search! She was beyond surprised, thrilled at the recovery, and extremely grateful for my work!

Finding Liana’s beautiful diamond ring only added to the many sentimental pages of memories that I had been a part of making and had written about in my personal journals over the years. I must admit that this happy-ending-story would truly fit well with all of the other special times experienced and cherished at our beloved Butler’s Orchard in Gaithersburg, Maryland!

Gold Wedding Band…Found in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania Yard

  • from Washington (District of Columbia, United States)

Robert’s Handsome 14 Karat Gold Wedding Band Shining Brightly Once Again!

Michelle So Happily Enjoys the Exciting Reunion Between Robert and His Handsome Gold Wedding Band!

BRIAN RUDOLPH, LOST ITEM RECOVERY SPECIALIST (LAND, WATER, SAND, HOUSES & VEHICLES) WILL FIND YOUR LOST KEEPSAKE! CALL ASAP (301) 466-8644!

I received an email from a gentleman named Robert who was inquiring about my services in helping him find his lost wedding band. I was quite excited to help the man in his efforts to find the missing ring which he had hoped was still hidden somewhere on his property.

Almost a year earlier, Robert was working on a project around the outside of his place. He was removing a tremendous amount of ivy that had been growing along the outer brick walls of his Harrisburg, Pennsylvania house. The homeowner believed his yellow gold family heirloom wedding band must have slipped off his finger and got lost somewhere on the property. The other possibility was that the wood chip cutter that he was using during his outside project could have gotten the best of the poor piece of gold and perhaps was shredded into smithereens! He couldn’t be sure what exactly happened to the band.

Robert searched all around the bushes near the foundation of the house. He got a metal detector and searched over the grassy areas in his front yard and along the side yards. Eventually he took his search for the missing ring to the back of the house and looked heavily in the weeds and withered ivy that had been removed off the house and dragged with a tarp all the way to the farthest parts of the property. Unfortunately, all of his diligent efforts did not lead Robert to uncovering the lost wedding band that he so very much cherished.

This particular yellow gold keepsake was very special to the family because it was previously worn by Robert’s deceased father-in-law. Robert’s wife, Michelle, was gifted her mother’s wedding band which matched her father’s ring that was gifted to Robert. They loved the idea that they could wear their parent’s rings because not only did they have sentimental connections as family heirlooms, but the couple was also very happy that they were saving the environment by wearing gold that had already been manufactured 53-plus years earlier. They shared with me that they didn’t want to buy gold jewelry because they said it was harming the environment with today’s mining and production of gold throughout the world.

When Robert and Michelle couldn’t find the wedding band anywhere on their large property, they had to put aside the idea that they would ever see the ring again. However, almost a year later, hope would finally emerge from the depths of despair. As Robert was looking for a class to take online, he stumbled upon an ad that I had posted regarding my metal detecting service for people in need of finding lost items. He figured that he had nothing to lose because if I didn’t find the missing item, the client would not be responsible for paying me anything other than my travel expense. The two of us made arrangements to talk on the phone and by the time we were done, Robert scheduled a date for me to come out and help him find his missing wedding band.

I will never forget that particular Father’s Day as I drove two hours north from Maryland to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. It was definitely a hot one outside. I didn’t leave the house without packing a large cooler filled with drinks and plenty of ice. Each mile I drove, I got more excited about this mission to help this complete stranger who lived so far away solve the mystery as to where his wedding band ended up. Of course, there was no guarantee that I would find the ring, but at the least I could bring Robert some closure if I didn’t find the keepsake. He could then move on and not wonder if he should continue searching for something that was clearly gone forever.

I arrived at Robert and Michelle’s lovely 1800s estate sometime in the early afternoon. The moment that I got out of the car, I was shown around the property and Robert explained to me exactly what he was doing during that weekend when he was stripping all of that ivy off the side of the house. He explained to me how he transported the ivy on a tarp from the front lawn all the way to the far back of the house. Once I was completely oriented as to all of Robert’s whereabouts throughout his weekend project almost a year earlier, I knew exactly where I needed to search if there was a chance that the ring was hiding somewhere outside on his property.

Once we were finished with the tour around the house, I got busy pulling out all of my necessary search equipment that I needed for that Sunday’s adventure. I made sure that the ice cooler was near to me at all times because it was a real scorcher of a day. Being that it was Father’s Day, Robert and Michelle would be hanging out with the children and hosting a few close friends that would be coming over to celebrate the day together. Their little party would be in the backyard over to one side where I was not going to be detecting. From time to time I would have young visitors come near to watch what I was doing, as well as a couple of neighbors that were walking by who also wanted to see what I was doing.

There were so many areas around the house that I needed to search. I started metal detecting in the most logical place before tackling more of the questionable locations. With a 6 inch coil (which is the disc at the end of the metal detector’s shaft), I slowly and carefully metal detected in the bushes that were up against the front brick of the house. There was a good chance that the ring fell off of Robert’s finger when he was pulling the ivy down off the house. It could have gotten lost under or somewhere around the bushes that were up against the brick. I was using a smaller coil because it would help to eliminate any electrical interference that the detector might otherwise pick up. It also was perfect for searching the hard-to-get-to-places with this smaller disc. Another advantage of using the 6 inch coil is that when you are detecting near the foundation of the house, there are lots of nails and small pieces of aluminum scattered all about. Therefore, one needs to use equipment that can separate out multiple target signals and differentiate between one from another. I found that the smaller coil worked very effectively to help me identify what was a potential target and what was not. I found all sorts of pieces of metal in the bushes and around the foundation of the house. Plenty of roof nails, screws, bottle caps, pull tabs, coins, little pieces of aluminum, and much more. I was extremely happy that I was able to overcome quite a bit of electrical interference as I was metal detecting along the edge of the foundation. When I finished detecting under all of the bushes in the front of the house and up against the foundation, I was completely positive that the ring was not anywhere in that vicinity.

The next area that I metal detected was the front lawn. I chose that particular area because once Robert removed the ivy from the brick, he laid the ivy on the grass in the front yard and on the side yards before hauling loads of the plant onto a tarp where he dragged it to the backyard. I wanted to make sure that the ring didn’t get lost in the grass in front of the house. It was a fairly small front yard so it didn’t take long to complete all of my grid lines from east to west and then back again. Though I found a few coins (mostly nickels), there was no gold to be found. It was at that point for me to move to the sides of the house.

During the five or so hours of search time, I would take occasional breaks because of how scorched I was out there on that very hot summer afternoon. Though I knew this could be a very long search day, I did not waver at all regarding my confidence that if the ring was lost outside on the property that I would find it somehow…somewhere. It was therefore extremely important to keep my body hydrated throughout the recovery process.

I gathered up my equipment and moved over to the right side of the house and detected in and around the bushes, as well as all across the flowerbeds along the length of the house leading towards the backyard. I found some interesting pieces of metal here and there, but didn’t find what I was looking for. Then, when I finished my search throughout that area, I moved to the grassy section on the other side of the walkway that leads to the back of the house. This section was adjacent to the neighbor’s yard. I wondered if the ring slipped off of Robert’s finger while he was working on the side of the house and perhaps it landed on the grassy area just before transporting the dead ivy from that side of the house. I grid searched that whole section of the lawn, but still no ring was detected on my machine.

Now that the front and right side of the house was completed, I turned to the left side of the house and began to metal detect all along the foundation of the house, in the flowerbeds, and even in the window well as I did on the other side of the house. I continued to go back and forth between my 15 inch coil for larger, more open areas of detecting where there were less trashy conditions, and the 6 inch sniper coil to work around hard to get to places. I was so hoping that I would discover the piece of gold on that left side of the house, but once again, nothing turned up.

Sweat was pouring down my face and the smoldering temperatures outside forced me to take yet another break once I finished that final side of the house (Robert said that there was no ivy removed on the rear side of the house). I sat next to my cooler, which was near the sidewalk that led down the side of Robert and Michelle’s front walkway and cooled off with a couple of drinks. While everybody was celebrating Father’s Day in the backyard, I thought to myself how wonderful it would be to recover the gold ring for Robert on such a special day as this one. I knew that I only had the backyard remaining to check and I tried to not let any doubts creep into my mind regarding the possibility that the ring never ended up outside or that it may have gotten chewed up in the wood chip chopper last year.

At that point in the afternoon, I believe I had metal detected approximately 3.5 hours of search time. I recall Robert coming over to me, asking how things were going. He seemed like he was doubtful that the ring might still be recoverable with just the backyard to search, but I told him that I find rings in the very last minutes of searching. I shared that I was quite encouraged that there were plenty of places to search in the backyard and perhaps that’s where we would find the missing treasure.

Once I finished cooling off, I carried my gear to the backyard and began detecting on the right side of the property (if you are facing away from the house). Robert had showed me a section where he had dumped some of the ivy before carrying it off to another location later that same day when he was working on the project. The weeds were kind of tall so I needed to be really careful not to miss anything along the ground. I pulled up a very old children’s gardening tool, an old matchbox car and a few other miscellaneous pieces of metal. By the time I finished grid searching that right section of the yard, I was 100% confident that Robert’s wedding band was not lost in that area.

As I moved into the five hour mark of searching, the sections that I had left to metal detect were becoming more limited. For most item recovery specialists, we don’t give up until we know that we conquered all of the territory necessary to determine whether or not the lost object was actually dropped in the area(s) that was suspected. I made sure that there was no chance that I somehow missed a spot where the wedding band might have gotten lost. I moved towards the lower area of the backyard which steadily moved on a decline and then got a bit steeper towards the bottom of the hill. I made sure that I investigated all of the hillside going down towards a path where people walked by on a regular basis. Robert had told me that the shredder was down the hill in that region, so I was interested in knowing if I would pick up any of the gold pieces if the ring got placed with the ivy inside the wood chip cutter. More metal objects were discovered along that hillside, but still there was no gold to be found.

I slowly moved my way from the right side of the backyard over towards the left side (if you are facing away from the house). My gridlines were perfectly set as I moved towards the path at the edge of the property and then moved my way back up the hill and continued until I cleared all of that territory leading to the left side of the backyard. It was at that point that I knew we were running out of real estate and my chances of finding the ring were getting slimmer and slimmer.

As I shared earlier, Robert had taken me to all of the spots where he carried, dumped and or cut up the ivy. When he took me to the last area where he dumped some of the ivy (the load that never got cut by the wood chopper), he explained that that was the only other place where he had moved about when working on that particular project. I knew that this was the last part of this search from what he had indicated to me earlier when we took a tour around his property. My last remaining section to detect was probably an area that was 35 feet x 20 feet on the left side of the backyard (if you are facing away from the house). There was quite a bit of brush like in other spots that I had previously detected. In other areas there was just old leaves and overgrown plant life. Truly I was hoping for the best outcome. And yet I probably was having thoughts that this might end up being a “closure story” rather than a successful one. But I didn’t give up hope. I kept metal detecting along my gridlines and every time I got a target signal I checked it out to make sure that I wasn’t missing anything important.

I know it is a cliché to use the phrase “all of a sudden”. However, that’s exactly what happened in this particular story. All of a sudden I hit a fantastic signal that was close to the surface, but slightly below the ground. I had gotten similar target signals just a bit earlier when I uncovered a coin spill of pennies and nickels that must have fallen out of someone’s pocket many years earlier. I wasn’t going to rush to excitement knowing that I had a similar signal earlier all to find out that I had only found a whole bunch of coins that were in the same range as this particular hit. Yet, I stayed optimistic as I pulled out my pinpointer (a hand-held metal detector to examine the specific area where my machine was picking up the particular object). I knelt down on the ground and used my effective tool to zero-in on exactly where the object was buried. Then, when I became confident as to where the object was exactly buried, I move some of the leaves out of the way and there before my eyes I saw the most beautiful sight! It was a yellow gold wedding band that could partially be seen above the soil! I was ecstatic! Even though I have found many items in the very last few seconds of my searches, I have to admit that I was quite surprised that I pulled this ring so close to the end of this task! There were absolutely no other places left for me to search other than a few remaining feet on my gridline! This is why I love what I do so much because there are so many miracle stories that take place and I’m always getting surprised at the next one! I thanked the Lord profusely as I was still knelt down on the ground, staring at this amazing sight! What a moment that was! I couldn’t wait to reveal this precious piece of gold to Robert and his beloved wife!

Robert and Michelle’s Matching Wedding Bands that Were Previously Worn by Michelle’s Parents Since 1967!

The Excited Couple Shares Both Rings Finally Reunited Once More After Almost a Year Apart!

The family’s party had wrapped up perhaps 45 minutes before I had discovered the ring, so I had the pleasure of walking up to the house to call Robert out to give him a fun fake-out in unveiling this most wonderful surprise! He and Michelle were beyond shocked at what I uncovered far out in the backyard, close to the bottom of the hill! In a matter of minutes, this handsome wedding band that had been in the family since the 1960s, would finally be reunited alongside its matching counterpart (Michelle’s wedding ring that she had been wearing since her mother’s ring was passed on to her years earlier). It brought me so much joy to be able to preserve the sentimental journeys of both the couple’s parents and Robert and Michelle’s personal marital story through what was represented with those two matching rings that were handed down years ago!

I will never forget that adventure in which I embarked upon, driving 250 miles round-trip to another state far away, hoping to solve a mystery that had remained an open case for nearly a year. Robert was so happy that he made that first call to me! Even more so, that he eventually gave the “green light” to move forward with the recovery efforts in attempting to make what seemed as an impossible situation…actually ending up being possible!

A woman named Janice was referred to me by someone who knew that I was on the elite international metal detectorist directory called THE RING FINDERS. She checked out my information and success stories regarding countless rings and other items that had been recovered throughout the last couple of years. That’s all it took to convince Janice that I was the one capable of finding her daughter’s lost 14 karat gold high school class ring.

Lauren had lost her class ring while hanging out with the family on a beautiful warm spring evening. They had a lovely picnic in the backyard of their gorgeous historical mansion located in Cockeysville, Maryland (17 miles from downtown Baltimore). The senior in high school, her sister, mother and father all sat at the picnic table overlooking the most perfect scenery of endless acres of grass, trees, streams and fields. The setting was simply paradise! Lauren asked her sister if she would hold onto her two rings (one of them was the gold class ring) while eating at the outside table. She obliged and put the jewelry in her short’s rear pocket.

After the family dinner picnic, the two girls went for a walk around the back of their estate, listening to music and enjoying each other’s company. They even ran around a bit, having the best time of close sister fellowship with a bit of exercise attached to their fun! Upon their return inside the mansion, Lauren requested her rings back from her sister. When her sister reached back into her rear short’s pocket to retrieve the two rings, there was only one ring to be found. The class ring had come out of the shorts during their time outside earlier that evening.

The family immediately switched into sleuth mode! Everyone headed down the grassy hill and over to the picnic table area to see if the yellow gold high school class ring could be spotted through the grass. They also looked around the hill area because Lauren’s sister had been carrying some of the dinner items back and forth from the kitchen to the picnic spot and then back up the hill again. Still, nothing was found. Flashlights and phone lights were used to look all over the field, and yet they still could not find the missing ring anywhere. There was so much territory to cover, and frankly I don’t think they knew where to begin because the ring could have fell out of Lauren’s sister’s shorts just about anywhere. The family tried to retrace the girls’ steps, but all of their efforts led to no avail. Eventually, they had to surrender their search attempt that night and figure out what their next plan of action would have to be.

Lauren’s mother, Janice, was really upset about the missing ring because it meant just as much to her as it did to Lauren. It represented a great accomplishment for her daughter and there was a lot of sentimentality attached to this particular class ring. She wanted to do everything possible to recover this beloved keepsake for her daughter. Instead of buying a metal detector (which neither her husband or herself knew how to operate effectively), Janice decided to contact a professional metal detectorist. This is where I come into the story. I had the pleasure of talking with Janice about the situation and I told her that if she invited me to their property, I would guarantee the return of this ring to Lauren’s finger! I didn’t know how long it would take, but I told her that I would find the piece of gold jewelry and it would stay within the family storyline for years to come! Janice was extremely encouraged by my words. We scheduled a time for me to come out sometime later that evening and I looked forward to solving the mystery as to where Lauren’s elite private school class ring ended up.

Later that evening, I finished up with a previous client in Northern Virginia and I traveled towards Baltimore where the search site was located. I had no idea that I would be conducting the recovery operation at not only a very historical site, but also a very nostalgic one for me, as well. Let me explain. It turned out that the mansion and the land which it sat upon was owned by a very famous quarryman owner with the last name of Scott. He not only built the mansion back in the late 1700’s, but in addition to that, in the 1800’s, Scott provided the famous stones that were used to build the first Washington Monument located in Baltimore, Maryland, as well as the same marble that was used to build Washington DC’s famous Washington Monument! Upon arriving at the estate, I also learned that the mansion had been previously owned by none other than Dorothy Hamill, the famous figure skater just seven years prior. This was the sentimental part of my search because I grew up watching Dorothy Hamill on television and in person when I was taken by my parents several times in the 1970’s to an ice-skating event called The Ice Capades. I thought it was so cool that I was searching for a missing ring on the very grounds where Dorothy and her family took their walks, enjoyed picnics and entertained guests over the years at this particular historical mansion.

(At the end of this story, I provided additional historical information regarding Scott’s Quarry and the two famous monuments that were constructed in honor of our first president of the United States.)

I will never forget how beautiful my surroundings were as I drove to the mansion. There were horse farms on every side of the country road. As I drove down the very long private lane, it opened up to a marvelous circular drive where the mansion sat, along with a lovely guest house located on the opposite side of the front property. The lawn was exquisite and the trees and streams that surrounded this perfectly painted creation of God simply took my breath away.

As soon as I parked alongside the house, I was greeted by Janice and her husband. At some point Lauren also came out to greet me and it was there that I was guided towards the back yard where I would be shown the vast acreage where they believed the class ring fell out of Lauren’s sister’s pocket. The family was quite kind to me and was very grateful that I could come to help them recover Lauren’s beloved class ring at such short notice. As we made our way from the back stone patio, down the hill to where the picnic table was located at the edge of the field, I was given more details about what took place the night before. Because the family had been looking all over the estate grounds, they explained to me that the picnic table had been moved from its original spot. I would remember this piece of information later on when I returned from the car with all of my metal detecting gear. Janice and Lauren walked took me across the field and guided me to all of the different places where the sisters walked, jogged and played around during that evening when the ring came out of the pocket.

Posing with Scott’s Mansion / Dorothy Hamill’s Former Home!

The scenery behind the house was absolutely exquisite. The most beautiful stream meandered around the 25 acres or so, approximately 75 yards away from the historical mansion’s rear hillside. I will never forget the stillness of the evening and the peace that I felt as I strolled across the grass with the two ladies. If there was any place on earth that I could choose to search for a lost item, this was the perfect environment! As I was walking around, occasionally I would glance up at the mansion at the top of the hill and thought to myself how cool it was that I was searching for a lost item where one of my favorite childhood celebrities once resided. Dorothy Hamill’s amazing ice skating abilities would simply take my breath away as she so beautifully danced about the ice arena during shows and competitions! She was definitely my all-time favorite figure skater!

Once I got all of the facts as to the many possibilities as to where Lauren’s sister may have dropped the ring, I returned to the car and gathered up all of my metal detecting gear. Because there was a lot of territory to conquer, I prepared myself that this could end up being a very long search. Nightfall was just starting to set in, so I made sure that I had all of the necessary night gear available at my fingertips. This included: my Minelab Equinox 800 detector, a high lumens headlamp, headphones, gloves, handheld pinpointer (small detector) and my detector harness vest.

The moment that I arrived back down at the search site, I immediately set up my detector to be able to locate the yellow gold ring that I was searching after. I am extremely experienced at finding lost class rings so I knew exactly how to adjust the settings for Lauren’s piece of jewelry. I utilized a large 15 inch coil (the large loop that is connected to the bottom of the detector shaft) which allowed me to cover a much larger area to detect in a much shorter period of time.

The first area that I searched was all around the picnic table. Once I made sure that there was no sign of the ring, I moved the table to a different place to detect the grass where it had been originally positioned. I covered the area a couple of more times just to make sure that the keepsake wasn’t lost close to the vicinity of where everybody was sitting the night before. It was definitely clear of the ring within a 25 to 30 foot radius around the table.

A Portion of the Field Where I Was Metal Detecting (The Stream was Located Behind the Tree Line)

The next few sections that I wanted to detect were located closer to the stream. The girls had made their way from the picnic table over towards the water on a diagonal path.  Therefore, I wanted to check the spots where they were hanging out before I started gridding across the field. When nothing turned up in those areas near the stream, I knew that it was time for me to start detecting from the picnic table over to the water on that diagonal course where they had walked. No one was quite sure exactly where Lauren and her sister had moved across the field, but they were certain that it was at a particular angle which took them towards the water. I started to make my gridlines across the field at that particular angle and then I returned the other way with a second grid line to see if maybe the ring came out of Lauren’s sister’s pocket when they walked from the table over towards the water.

I swung the metal detector coil back and forth as I moved across the field and then back again towards the picnic table. I carefully made sure that I didn’t miss a single potential target that could end up being Lauren’s gold class ring. It was probably 45 minutes or so into the search when I hit a particular signal on my second grid line moving towards the picnic table from the water’s edge. I believe I was approximately 40 feet away from where the picnic table originally was situated. Though I had detected a good amount of area around the picnic table, this particular target was just outside of the zone where I had been searching prior to starting the gridlines. With my headlamp blazing above me, I knelt down to the grass and pulled out my handheld metal detector to check the specific area where my Equinox 800 was picking up the target signal. At first, it appeared that the piece of metal that I had detected was somewhere below the dirt because I didn’t see anything other than the many blades of grass ascending from the earth.

My First Glance at Lauren’s Brilliant Gold Class Ring!

Until I was completely sure that this particular metal was below ground, I kept moving my pinpointer around that vicinity just to confirm that this was not the target that I was looking for. All of a sudden, to my greatest surprise, I saw a reflection of light that was bouncing off something that resembled a small piece of gold. My fingers moved through the blades of grass until I uncovered the very special treasure that I had been hoping to find for young Lauren! There it was peeking out from the jungle of green! It was Lauren’s high school class ring! Indeed, it was a very beautiful piece of jewelry! It was constructed with a 14 karat yellow gold band accompanied by a blue stone with Lauren’s private school crest engraved in the middle of the ring. I had solved the mystery as to where the ring had fallen out of Lauren’s sister’s pocket! I was beyond thrilled at what I had discovered and how quickly I found the keepsake in an area with so many acres of land that I potentially would have had to detect! It could have taken hours upon hours to find something this small. Yet, my methodical work paid off as I eliminated section by section, grid line by grid line until I eventually hit gold! Yes, I certainly did! I was so very happy to discover this gorgeous piece of precious metal!

After I marked the spot as to where the ring was found, I was hoping to surprise Lauren and her family with the wonderful discovery. However, Lauren’s father had coincidentally been looking through the house window as I was kneeling down in the grass while investigating my gold target signal. He thought to himself that perhaps I may have found what we were all looking for. So he started walking out of the rear door of the mansion as I approached the top of the hill. He asked me with an excited tone of voice, “Did you find it?” I then raised my hand in the air with the gold ring clutched between my fingers to show the gentleman my proud find of the evening! His face lit up with the most satisfied smile and proceeded to congratulate me on finding such a needle in a haystack! He was almost in complete disbelief that I was able to pull this ring from such a large territory! Within seconds, Lauren and her mother made their way across the stone patio to find out if perhaps all the excitement that we were experiencing had something to do with finding Lauren’s ring. They were happily surprised to see the class ring in my hand! Lauren was beyond thrilled to experience such a very special reunion with the ring that she cherished so very much! It was one class ring reunion that I will not easily forget! She was so taken back that I was able to find this extremely beautiful piece of craftsmanship that represented such an important accomplishment in Lauren’s life! Janice was equally excited and quite impressed that I was able to find the ring so quickly with so many acres of land out there to search!

Dorothy Hamill at Her Finest!

It was there that night, on that famous ice skater’s formally owned estate that the four of us celebrated our own special victory with the successful search and recovery of Lauren’s gold high school class ring! It was absolutely thrilling for me to be invited onto such a lovely estate to help this dear family find something so important as Lauren’s beloved keepsake!

Hamill was the Most Famous Skater During the 1970’s

Not only was it a very nostalgic time for me, knowing that Dorothy Hamill once lived on the property where I had conducted my search, but it was equally exciting to know that two of our most prominent monuments honoring our first president, George Washington, were constructed with the rock that was pulled from this very propert nearly two centuries ago!

Now, every time I pass the Washington Monument in our nation’s capital of Washington DC, I always think to myself how special it was to have found a lost ring on the same land where most of those blocks of marble were originally dug up from Scott’s quarry so many years earlier! And to think that this mansion was built and dwelled within by Mr. Scott himself dating all the way back to the late 1700s! It was truly a very special ring recovery adventure, filled with several sentimental and historical significances! I will never forget that magical night at Scott’s mansion in Cockeysville, Maryland! Never will I forget it!

More History About Scott’s Quarry

As shared above, Scott’s Quarry’s marble was used to build the very first monument (located in Baltimore, Maryland) honoring the life and legacy of America’s first president, George Washington.

Scott’s Quarry Historic Marker

Designed by architect Robert Mills and erected between 1815 and 1829, this was the first public monument erected to George Washington. The construction contract specified « the whole of the column is to be of the whitest and the best quality marble from Scott’s Quarry. »

Another great piece of construction honoring our great American leader is The Washington Monument in our nation’s capital. It too was made from the same marble limestone that Baltimore’s Washington Monument was made out of. It towers above the city that bears Washington’s name, serving as an awe-inspiring reminder of George Washington’s greatness. The monument, like the man, stands in no one’s shadow.

The Washington Monument, designed by Robert Mills and eventually completed by Thomas Casey and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, honors and memorializes George Washington at the center of the nation’s capital. The structure was completed in two phases of construction: Phase 1: (1848-1854) and Phase 2: (1876-1884). Built in the shape of an Egyptian obelisk, evoking the timelessness of ancient civilizations, the Washington Monument embodies the awe, respect, and gratitude the nation felt for its most essential Founding Father. When completed, the Washington Monument was the tallest building in the world at 555 feet, 5-1/8 inches.

The First Washington Monument in Baltimore, Maryland

In the beginning, the original idea for Washington’s statue was to have our first president sitting on a horse. Washington liked the concept. However, ultimately others didn’t favor the design when it came to deciding on the equestrian look. Then, in 1836, 37 years after Washington’s death, architect Robert Mills, who also designed Baltimore’s monument to Washington, came up with a new design for an obelisk (a pencil like structure) that appealed to planners. « It was modern in its concept, » said Baltimore County historian John McGrain. « It’s a very sleek, straightforward kind of design. »

Americans were urged to contribute $1.00 each for the stately structure. The cornerstone was laid in 1848, but construction was stopped as funding dried up and the Civil War was on the horizon. Work resumed and was completed in 1884, giving the monument two different shades of marble. According to park service research, the marble for the bottom section came from what is now Redland Genstar in Texas, Maryland near Interstate Route 83 outside the city of Baltimore, Maryland. The top 300 to 400 feet of the amazing 555 foot tall structure came from Scott’s Quarry in Cockeysville, Maryland only 18 minutes from Texas, Maryland.

In the early years of the marble business in the 1840s, the rock, dug from a string of canyonlike pits in the area, was used for such notable buildings as the Capitol in Washington, Baltimore’s City Hall and the Baltimore County Courthouse. Many of the city’s well-known white marble steps also came from the quarry. « They say this is the stone that built Baltimore, » Gease said.

In those days, marble was extracted tediously by hand, mostly by Irish immigrants who had fled their famine-stricken country for the $1.00 to $1.50-a-day wages at a quarry. The laborers chiseled the stone from beds that were formed millions of years ago as masses of mucky sediment were squeezed, melted and recrystallized. The cut marble slabs were heaved into carts and rolled about a half-mile to the Cockeysville railroad station for delivery to such destinations as Washington DC.

The Second Washington Monument in Washington DC

In 1998, during the more recent Washington Monument restoration project, fresh blocks of Scott’s Quarry limestone was discovered to replace old broken pieces from the weathered historical structure. This time, in the modern age, the stone was transported to DC in a more simpler fashion. A flatbed truck carried the designated marble to the Nation’s Capital where it was reunited with its 150 year old counterpart that originally helped to make up the world’s tallest free-standing masonry structure.

Maryland Metal Detecting Service Finds Lost Gold Wedding Band Near Basketball Hoop

  • from Washington (District of Columbia, United States)

Craig’s Handsome 14 Karat Gold Diamond Wedding Band Proudly Displayed!

Craig Smiles So Very Brightly as He Holds in Hand His Beloved Gold Diamond Wedding Band Once Again!

BRIAN RUDOLPH, LOST ITEM RECOVERY SPECIALIST (LAND, WATER, SAND, HOUSES & VEHICLES) WILL FIND YOUR LOST KEEPSAKE! CALL ASAP (301) 466-8644!

I received a call from a lady named Betsy who was eager to recover a lost wedding band that belonged to her husband Craig. The day prior, he was playing basketball outside next to their house when he believed he saw the ring fly off his finger when the basketball was released from his hand.

Craig owns one of those portable height adjustable basketball hoop systems that has attachable wheels and a sand-filled base at the bottom. He was certain that he would find the ring shortly after searching around his sport’s set-up. Unfortunately, he did not triumph over that particular challenge of looking about to find his lost handsome 14 karat yellow gold wedding band with several diamonds set within the ring. As the hours of searching increased, Craig became more concerned that the ring may have bounced off the hoop system and possibly roll down the street (their house is located at the top of a semi-steep hill).

The frustrated man and his wife Betsy considered renting a metal detector to help them find the missing ring. They went online and stumbled across an international metal detecting service directory called THE RING FINDERS. The couple learned that there are professional metal detectorists in various states that are associated with this directory and who specialize in finding lost rings. Instead of renting a cheap detector which they had no experience operating, Betsy looked up their local ring finder on the elite directory. She found my name, Brian Rudolph, listed as one who provides metal detecting services for the Takoma Park, Maryland area.

Betsy immediately contacted me to inquire about my services after reading countless success stories of how I had found many client’s lost rings and other keepsakes over the past couple of years. I was beyond thrilled to help the couple with the recovery of such an important part of their lives – Craig’s gold and diamond wedding band!

Later that afternoon I arrived at the couple’s lovely home. Craig and Betsy were one of the nicest couples I had ever had the pleasure of meeting! They were so sweet to me! I was shown the basketball hoop system which was located at the edge of their property overlooking the street. Their driveway was adjacent to where Craig conveniently worked out while playing hoops. I was jealous at how fit this man appeared to be! I believe he told me that he had lost a considerable amount of weight and the ring became loose on his finger. This is why the sentimental keepsake ended up flying off his finger in the process of launching the basketball towards the net.

After being shown the property’s beautiful flower beds and all of the exquisite plant life surrounding the basketball hoop system, I returned to my vehicle to acquire all of the gear that I needed to help recover Craig’s missing ring.

I first started the search by using my 15 inch coil (which is the disc at the end of the metal detector’s shaft) . I was able to cover a lot of territory on the lawn with this particular set up. By the time I was done with this initial coverage of the lawn, I concluded that the ring was not lost within the grassy areas. I switched detectors and used my other Minelab Equinox 800 with a smaller 6 inch coil at the end and started detecting in the flower beds behind and to the sides of the basketball hoop system. With such a unique coil, I was able to carefully and gently move between the garden flowers as to not harm them in any way. As I was performing this step in the search, the next door neighbor came over to help look within the flower beds, as well. I made sure that every potential signal that my detector picked up was carefully analyzed and scanned over, just to make certain that I hadn’t missed the jewel. Still, nothing if importance was discovered.

The next leg of my search was to metal detect the street, starting at the top of the hill and moving my way down towards the bottom. I wanted to secure the public area just in case the ring bounced off the hoop’s center vertical bar and headed for the concrete’s decline. Sadly, every part of the pavement was clear of any rings. Still, nothing turned up.

After approximately an hour and forty-five minutes of searching the lawn, flower beds, bushes, driveway, street, and the concrete blocks that weighed down the basketball hoop base, I took a break and mentally reviewed all of the places that I methodically investigated. Unless someone walking by had spotted the wedding band and picked it up, I was pretty convinced that I had somehow missed the location where the ring was lying.

I was not about to give up this search. I am relentless and ruthless with my recovery efforts and I was absolutely determined to find Craig’s very sentimental keepsake. I made a decision to return to my small coil and carefully detect around little spaces, cracks and crevices where my larger detector coil may not have been able to reach the precious metal target.

After another 30 minutes of very slow and meticulous detecting around the places where the ring could have settled down into hard-to-reach spaces, I began moving the 6 inch coil around the parameter of the base of the basketball hoop support. I was thinking that there was a possibility that the other detector just couldn’t reach alongside of the base and I wanted to make sure then I wasn’t missing any spaces up against the structure. Well, it was a wise thing that I chose to use the small 6 inch coil to reach those hard to reach spots, because I ended up receiving a strong but broken up target signal on my detector screen which was registering the type of VDI (visual display identification) numbers that I was hoping to hit! I swung the coil back and forth just so very slightly to make sure that I was getting an accurate reading of this particular metal. I then knelt down beside the basketball hoop system base and used my handheld pinpointer (which is a small detector) in order to focus in on exactly where the target was hiding. Just then at that moment, as the pinpointer began to sound off (indicating that the piece of metal was zeroed in on), I looked straight down at that particular area between the blades of grass and the plastic base, and that’s when I saw the most beautiful sight! I found it! I finally discovered the missing wedding band! I had metal detected one of the most splendid piece of gold treasures with exquisite diamonds set across one side of the ring! It truly was one handsome looking men’s wedding band!

I was praising the Lord quietly but very excitedly inside my heart and mind as I planned to surprise Craig and Betsy with this most fantastic news! Once the reveal was made, the couple was beyond blown away by what I had uncovered from the ground! It had been so long since first arriving at the house and I wondered if they thought the search would end up empty handed at that point. Even I was getting concerned that perhaps the jewel had ended up rolling into the street where someone found it or a tire picked it up and carried far down the pavement. Yet, reality proved everyone’s concerns to be unworthy of attention because all along the « grand band » was simply wedged down in that space along side the basketball hoop ground base!

Craig and Betsy were not only relieved to see the sight of that most brilliant gold, but they were also extremely grateful for my search efforts in recovering Craig’s very special wedding band! I will never forget the warm send off that the happy couple and their excited neighbors next door expressed as I packed up my gear, waived goodbye and started my drive down the street! I was certainly wearing a victory smile from ear to ear all the way home that afternoon!

Craig and Betsy’s Testimonial:

« We are so grateful that Brian Rudolph who was able to come to our home with his metal detecting equipment to search for a lost ring. He meticulously searched through our lawn and gardens using various devices. He was careful in the gardens not to hurt the flowers. After less than 2 hours, Brian found the wedding ring which had fallen off my husband’s finger while playing basketball in the driveway. The whole experience was delightful. We were so glad to learn about the The Ring Finders – it was a much better option than renting a metal detector ourselves! »

Metal Detecting Lost Tiffany and Company Sterling Silver Heart Pendant…Found in Columbia, Maryland

  • from Washington (District of Columbia, United States)

Kristina’s Very Special Tiffany and Co. Sterling Silver Heart Pendant!

Anthony and Kristina Display the Beautiful and Sentimental Tiffany & Co. Heart Pendant!

BRIAN RUDOLPH, LOST ITEM RECOVERY SPECIALIST (LAND, WATER, SAND, HOUSES & VEHICLES) WILL FIND YOUR LOST KEEPSAKE! CALL ASAP (301) 466-8644!

I received a text message from Anthony inquiring whether or not I still recover lost items for people during the Covid-19 pandemic. I texted the potential client and told him that not only was I active in search and recovery operations, but that I had just recovered a lovely wedding band for someone the day before he contacted me. Anthony then went on to share what happened to his wife’s heart pendant:

“My wife lost her Tiffany Sterling Silver charm in our yard last week while we were doing yard work. I know the exact 100 foot stretch of grass that it’s located in, but the grass is so tall that I have not been able to find it. Please let me know if this is something you can help with. We are located in Columbia, Maryland.”

I responded, “I would love to recover the charm for your beloved.”

Anthony and Kristina found my information on the elite metal detectorist website called THE RING FINDERS. He learned that I provide professional metal detecting services in the Maryland, Virginia, Washington D.C., West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Delaware areas. Anthony continued to text me photos and a description of the lost piece of jewelry. He said it was a sterling silver heart charm that he gave to Kristina for their first anniversary during their college years 13 years ago! It was highly sentimental! Once again I told him that I would be happy to recover the charm for Kristina. I asked what his schedule was like for the next day and he said that they were both available. However, the weather was forecasted to be very rainy and Anthony wondered if that mattered to me. I responded back by telling him that it was not a problem at all and that I always come fully equipped with rain gear and metal detecting equipment that is fully waterproof. I explained that I work in the rain all the time. With that mentioned, Anthony was 100% on board with having me come out and start the pendant search for the couple.

The next day, I arrived at Kristina and Anthony’s Columbia, Maryland house. Yes, it was a nice drizzly day, but nothing that I couldn’t handle. I was just so charged up about helping this concerned couple that it didn’t matter to me in the least regarding the occasional downpour.

The day before the search, while Anthony and I were texting back and forth, he shared with me that he had attempted to recover the very sentimental keepsake with a cheap metal detector that he bought on Amazon a week prior. For 7 days, he unfortunately was getting too many false signals and not the object that he was hoping to find. I recommended to him that he return the detector and get his money back. So many people contact professional metal detectorists (like myself) after they have expended all of their money, time, and energy purchasing detectors that they don’t know how to use and equipment that just won’t get the job done. It literally takes hundreds of hours to learn and best acquaint oneself with a metal detector before he or she can be effective with their searches.

Anthony came out to greet me as the rain steadily fell. We walked to his backyard and he explained to me that he was completely confident that the pendant that his wife was wearing while doing yard work was not lost anywhere else but in the backyard. Kristina saw the broken chain still wrapped around her neck but the pendant was missing. She too was certain that she had never walked towards the sides or front of their property.

Anthony pointed to his shed and showed me where he and Kristina had carried bales of hay towards portions of the yard after they had laid down grass seed in various places. Once I took into account all of the spots where they walked and worked, I set up my detector in order to locate a sterling silver-type target and then got on my way with the search. I used my Equinox 800 machine along with my 15 inch coil for this particular hunt.

Slowly and carefully I started my first gridline across the lawn, about 25 feet away from the couple’s house. I swung the coil from east to west until I got within inches of the foundation. I then carefully detected the sections near the flowerbeds where the grass seed was laid down and where the hay was placed on top of the surface. I still did not pick up any potential targets that alerted me to something that might be sterling silver. All of my gridlines took no more than 25 minutes or so to complete that particular parameter on the lawn. Once I was done with the 25 by 100 foot grid area, I didn’t feel comfortable moving to another section before re-examining the grass where Kristina had been walking. So, before moving on to another part of the lawn to detect, I decided to widen the search zone a little bit closer to the property line where Anthony and Kristina’s neighbor’s yard began.

Just as I started a new grid line on the very edge of my client’s property, I got a very encouraging target signal that was definitely registering a target that could potentially be sterling silver. Indeed, it was close to the surface, if not on top of the earth, and the tone came out pretty strong through the headphones. I knelt down to see what this target was all about. Then, I took out my pinpointer to zero-in on exactly where this target was lying. All of a sudden, my eyes locked in on what the pinpointer was detecting between the blades of grass. There was a silver looking piece of jewelry laying upon the dirt below! I found it! It was the heart pendant! I was beyond thrilled at that moment as my eyes read the inscription: “Always and Forever…Tiffany and Company 925”!

Anthony was the first one to learn of the successful recovery of Kristina’s pendant. He was beyond excited with the news and equally surprised as to where I found the very sentimental item! Anthony went inside to share the happy moment with Kristina and I witnessed her beautiful excitement that was simply off the charts! Her beautiful piece of silver was finally returned to her hands! I was so happy for the couple, and the two of them were just as grateful for their decision to reach out to me and request my help! Yes, it was certainly another happy search ending!

Lost Family Heirloom Earring…Found 3 Days Later in Arnold, Maryland Parking Lot

  • from Washington (District of Columbia, United States)

Katheryne’s Sentimental Family Heirloom Earring Shining Brightly Once Again!

Katheryne’s Smile Tells the Story’s Happy Ending Perfectly as She Holds the Special Earring in Her Hands!

BRIAN RUDOLPH, LOST ITEM RECOVERY SPECIALIST (LAND, WATER, SAND, HOUSES & VEHICLES) WILL FIND YOUR LOST KEEPSAKE! CALL ASAP (301) 466-8644!

I received an email from a young lady named Katheryne who was deeply upset about a lost earring that was extremely sentimental to her, as well as for her mother. She found my information online just by complete coincidence while she was looking to see if anyone had reported finding her lost piece of jewelry. Katheryne read my profile and numerous successful item recovery stories on the highly popular and elite metal detecting service directory’s website called THE RING FINDERS. Since nothing turned up, she thought to give me a shot at finding the earring. Katheryne figured, ‘What was there to lose by trying him out?’

The recent high school graduate shared with me on the phone the background story connected with the priceless possession that disappeared and the theory of how the earring apparently got lost. Over 20 years ago, Katheryne’s aunt who lived in the Phillipines, gave a pair of 14 karat yellow gold hoop earrings to her sister (Katheryne’s mother) just prior to immigrating to the United States when they were very young. Then, sometime recently, the earrings were gifted to Katheryne which simply meant the world to her.

The young lady let her good friend Kim borrow the set of earrings when they went out with their families to celebrate their high school graduation and allowed for their parents to take some memorable posed photos at a few sites. From Katheryne’s house (where they did their hair, makeup and jewelry), the two families boarded her parent’s minivan and headed to their first photo shoot location – a grassy hill with a beautiful golf course in the background.

Once they all arrived at the first site (which was behind an apartment complex), the families got out of the vehicle, walked from the parking lot onto the grass which led between a couple of the public housing buildings and proceeded to take their celebratory memories on camera. Almost immediately afterwards, everyone returned to the van and headed for the next photo location.

Later that evening, after taking the pictures and partying the day away, Kim proceeded to take the earrings off to return them to her friend when they arrived back at Katheryne’s place. That was the moment when she noticed that one of the earrings was missing off of her ear.

Katheryne was disappointed and upset knowing how much this piece of jewelry meant to her and to the family. The house was searched from top to bottom, and so was the minivan that they were all in when they went to the various sites. Subsequently, Katheryne and Kim returned to each place where they traveled earlier, searched the parking lots, the lawns and everywhere else they stopped to celebrate the two graduate’s accomplishments. Sadly, nothing turned up. They weren’t sure where the earring may have gone missing. The only conclusion that Katheryne was able to come to was that the earring was either picked up by someone at that point or it could have ended up at any of the places they were at during the course of their day’s festivities.

Obviously the young lady’s mom was sad that the family heirloom was seemingly gone forever. Nobody really thought that there was a chance of recovering the earring at that point after looking for so long. However, Katheryne was determined to do all that she could to try to recover this priceless keepsake!

At the time of our initial phone call, I was with a client in Annandale, Virginia. After I wrapped things up at that particular location, Katheryne and I covered every detail imaginable so that I could attempt to solve this mystery and help recover the earring for the young lady. I asked her every question in the book until I got a clear picture of what we were dealing with. One such question was: “Do you have access to all of the photos that were taken along the way (from start to finish) so that we could analyze Kim’s ear to see when she was wearing the earring and when it was no longer on her ear?”

Katheryne’s Fantastic Intel Provided to Me!

Katheryne immediately sent me all of the photos that were taken of her friend and ones that were taken together at the various sites. Once I finished analyzing them, I was actually able to determine that Kim lost the earring sometime between the time she was at her friend’s house getting ready and the time that the families were just about to take photos at the first location! The reason that I was able to deduct this was because the first set of photos did not show Kim wearing both earrings at that moment! The photos clearly showed Kim wearing only one earring! Katheryne was so grateful for that bit of information because that greatly helped to isolate the possible locations as to where the earring fell from Kim’s face!

When I concluded my pre-investigative reporting, I felt comfortable that there was a chance (as slight as it might have been), that the earring could be recoverable. It dropped either at Katheryne’s house, on her front lawn, on her street pavement, in the minivan, in the parking lot at the apartment complex where they first stopped, or on the grassy area just prior to when the first set of pictures were taken.

Within a minute of us wrapping up our talk, I was in my car heading 55 miles from Annandale, Virginia all the way to Arnold, Maryland (near Annapolis) to help Katheryne with this very difficult search. Because my young client had just left town with her folks to go on their annual vacation, I did not have Katheryne around to orient me as to where the two families traveled and walked around. However, she did an extraordinary job of acquiring Google maps and diagrammed the exact place where her vehicle was parked at the first photo session site. In addition to that, she provided me with the address to her house where I could metal detect her lawn, as well as search the driveway and street. That wasn’t all! She also set up a conference call with her friend Kim, and we were all able to connect by phone so that we could go through all of the details together just to make sure that Katheryne wasn’t missing any other pertinent details that would help my search efforts.

After driving an hour and 15 minutes, I finally arrived at the first search site located at the apartment complex where the grassy hill overlooked the golf course in the back of the buildings. Before I took any of my gear out, I did a visual search around the parking lot area where the minivan had been parked several days earlier. I was able to identify the exact parking space based on the excellent intel that was provided to me by Katheryne. Unfortunately, I was unable to effectively inspect the targeted parking space and the adjacent ones to the left and right of it, because there were cars parked all along that section. However, from what I could see, there was no earring lying on the pavement. I did find a couple of coins and miscellaneous aluminum items but no jewelry was discovered.

Once the visual search was complete, I returned to the car and retrieved all of the necessary metal detecting equipment that I needed to conduct my search all around the grassy areas. I started my grid lines closest to the sidewalk which was parallel with the parking lot. I made sure that all of the real estate between the two apartment buildings was carefully searched and nothing of importance was discovered on the surface of the ground. I had tons of signals, but nothing significant enough to lead me to believe that I was hitting the lost hoop earring. Once I finished that center section that led to the backyard where the hill was located, I checked the map and photos that Katheryne sent me and I got a bearing on exactly where the families walked next. Everything matched up perfectly, which allowed me to accurately detect the ground where the young ladies walked and stood just prior to the first photo shoot.

Not only did I grid search that entire section where the families walked around and positioned themselves for the photos, but I covered the entire hill and down towards the bottom of the decline. Katheryne remembered that the two girls walked just a bit down the hill, but not far from where the photographs were taken. I wanted to make sure that there was no possibility that I missed even a foot of grassy area. By the time I completed that large area which leveled out at the bottom of the hill where the golf course fence could be seen, it was completely dark outside and I had expended three hours of search time at that point. I was 100% confident that the earring was not on the lawn anywhere between the two apartment buildings, as well as all of the ground area stretching to the back yard area that I had just finished searching. I resolved that my next step was to drive over to Katheryne’s house and metal detect her front lawn which Kim had walked across leading to the street where the minivan was parked.

Katheryne’s Keepsake Earring Still Lying Right Where it Was Several Days Earlier!

During the entire grid search, I gave updates to Katheryne and occasionally I called her to ask a question or two just to make sure that I covered every square inch of that grassy area. Once I gave my client the discouraging news report (which was that I finished searching the apartment complex property lawn and came up empty handed), I headed for the parking lot to load my gear up and then drive to Katheryne’s place. Just as I got to the foot of the parking lot pavement, I purposely decided to walk between two cars that were situated exactly where the minivan had been parked several days prior. I figured that I would look down at the pavement with my high lumen headlamp as I walked to my car, keeping my eyes focused down below just in case I had missed spotting the earring earlier when other cars were parked in those same spaces. I didn’t think much about it other than processing a quick thought that anything was possible (from personal past experiences), and that just maybe…yes, just maybe a miracle might take place. Well, to my greatest amazement, as my eyes were focused down on the black top, I locked in on a small yellow, gold colored circular object that appeared to be a piece of jewelry lying underneath the vehicle that was parked in the same space where the minivan had been parked three days prior. It was maybe resting 6 inches inside of the parking space’s white line under the car. My initial thought was that this particular find had to be too good to be true! Yet, I remained hopeful as I knelt down on the blacktop to carefully inspect what I had detected with my eyes. As I picked up the object, immediately I noticed that the item was in fact a 14 karat yellow gold hoop earring with the clasp still open! Yes, believe or not, I had found the lost family heirloom earring that belonged to Katheryne! I could not believe it myself! I actually found the earring and it had been on the parking lot pavement all that time! Nobody had discovered it throughout these past few days! None of the residents that came out to their cars or those driving into the space or adjacent spaces identified the earring, as well! Nor did Katheryne and the two families spot the priceless piece of jewelry when they returned to photo shoot location #1 looking for the missing item! It is stories like this one that perfectly illustrates why it’s so important to call a professional item recovery specialist from THE RING FINDER’S directory! We are not “your father’s metal detectorist”! Not at all! We are much better than that! We look outside the box and obsess over searching every possible place where we might find that which has been lost by our clients!

The moment that I discovered Katheryne’s lost earring, I made a call to her girlfriend Kim and let her know the amazing news! She was beyond excited at what I recovered out there in the parking lot! I told her that I wanted to surprise Katheryne with my discovery and yet I knew that we could not wait for her to return from her two week vacation. Therefore, we decided that I would drive over to Kim’s place and she would call Katheryne on her phone so we could get a video chat going. That’s when I would break the news of this marvelous recovery with Katheryne! I don’t recall if we were able to make the video conference call work successfully or not, but we definitely connected with her audibly. Katheryne could not believe what she heard when I surprised her with the good news! She was totally taken back when she learned that I had successfully recovered the 14 karat gold earring which had meant so much to her and her family! Kim also felt a huge sigh of relief because she felt so bad that the earring fell out of her ear during their time of celebration. It meant so much to me to hear both of them express their extreme gratitude regarding what I was able to accomplish for them!

I left Kim’s driveway with such a wonderful feeling inside, knowing that I immediately responded to Katheryne’s request for help and that I successfully deducted the sequence of events as to where I should begin the search. As a result, I found what Katheryne and Kim were so desperately looking for! I love what I do and I really enjoy the people that I do these searches for! Moments like these truly never get old! During the entire 60 mile drive home, I wore the happiest smile upon my face! And truly…and that countenance has not diminished a bit in the least each and every time I recall this most fantastic story!

Katheryne’s Testimonial:

“Brian, thank you so much for all of your help! My mother was extremely happy when I told her this morning that you found the earring, and I am so relieved that it is safe! Thank you so much, I truly appreciate your service! Thank you so much for the safe return of a family heirloom! When it was discovered that I had lost my mother’s gold hoop earring during graduation pictures, I was, needless to say, quite panicked. I knew that searching all of the grassy sites would be pointless, and was beginning to lose hope. I felt extraordinarily guilty when she told me that it was a precious gift from her sister in her youth. Sentimentally, those earrings were priceless to her. I knew I had to get it back, but didn’t know how. I mulled over my options, but none seemed plausible. Searching on foot proved fruitless. But then I found you – “The Ring Returner” after reading about you on the THE RING FINDER’S website! You were very proactive and had excellent timing. You went to the search for the earring the day I called you! You were meticulous and detailed in your search, as well as being extremely thorough and communicative and eventually…you found it! My mother was extremely joyful at its return, and now all is well…thanks to you! I am extremely grateful for someone who does an act so kind for complete strangers, and one can be sure to trust Brian for the safe return of their valuables. Thank you Brian so much!”
