Ed called me last week about a lost ring that he believed had occurred at his worksite. Ed runs a drilling company and it was while he was fixing one of the rigs he believed that his ring had fallen off. He asked me if I could help find his ring and of course I said I would. The only issue I had was that his worksite was littered with pieces of scrap metal as he and his team are constantly fabricating materials as they fix and prepare the drilling rigs. I told him I would bring my magnet sweeper so we could pull as much of the junk metal out of the search areas.
I met him today at the site and Ed explained where he thought the ring had gone missing. The only thing that made sense is that the ring had come off and he had to have stepped on it and smashed it into the dirt because the material was a combination of dirt and road base. While Ed was sweeping the area for junk metal I got about detecting it. I began to grid the area going slowly so as not miss anything but to also let my Minelab Manticore do it’s job of separating targets. After about 5 minutes I got a nice solid tone just below the surface and I took my pinpointer and located the target and began to scrape away the dirt and when I did Ed’s ring appeared!
