.. Susanne is from San Francisco, CA. visiting Newport Beach for a week. The first day of her vacation she lost her wedding ring set in the sand. Both Platinum diamond rings were somewhere in an area the size of a two basket ball courts. After several hours on the beach she discovered that her platinum diamond wedding ring set were no longer on her finger.

She found my contact information online. She called me in a panic and I was able to calm her down by saying I was on my way to meet her. ****Christine’s husband called me shortly after feeling his ring slip off his finger in his front yard. He had found my contact information online while searching for a place to purchase or rent a metal detector.

I told him I was available to help him find his ring if someone could meet me at the location.. 

His wife Christine was able to meet me an hour later. She showed me a location where her husband had shook his hand while taking the trash out to curb. 

She said it was a dark colored platinum wedding band. After about 30 minutes scanning the rose garden and the lawn I got a signal that turned out to be the missing wedding band in the grass. Like many other searches this was not a platinum ring, it was a tungsten carbide ring. Sometimes people tell you it’s silver and it turns out to be platinum or white gold. I always search in all metal mode when possible. You can’t depend on discrimination settings on the metal detector.

Not all searches are this easy, this ring was completely out of sight and couldn’t have been found without a metal detector.

**** Aisha contacted me by cellphone while I was metal detecting on the beach. Her 6 year old daughter had taken mommy’s heirloom ring into the backyard and lost it in the grass. The home was in La Habra with was less than a 45 minute. I met Aisha and her husband, Kobby about an hour before dark.

Sometimes little six year old kids can get confused about where an item like a ring could be lost. We were working towards finding the ring but if it wasn’t there, I could feel eliminate that area. So they could search the other places her daughter had been playing.

I began the grid search under the swings then expanded my area to swing over all the thick grass. The grass was free of metal trash so I

didn’t waist much time checking false signals. Twenty minutes into the search I got a nice gold signal and there was Aisha’s beautiful gold / diamond and blue sapphire ring that her grandmother had worn for years and passed it down to Aisha. ”Irreplaceable “

A happy moment for everyone. We were all relieved to have found it within hours of the loss. They will all sleep well tonight. Many times when a person loses a sentimental ring the memory of the loss haunts them for may years. I always consider this when I am searching for a keepsake. I also have some searches where the ring should be a easy find and it couldn’t be found for one reason or another. I have a few unsuccessful ring searches that haunt me .. That’s just the way it is…
