RING FOUND AT VAN BUREN STATE PARK, South Haven, MI

Dave and Gabby are on vacation from their home in Chicago and camping at the park. Yesterday they were on the beach and Dave took off his hat, put his ring in the hat and then went swimming. He came back, grabbed his hat and forgot about the ring. The ring went flying and they spent about 45 mins looking for it with no luck. They were just married in May of this year and I asked him if he was in the doghouse. His comment was, not yet, but I think it probably depends on what happens today. I met Dave in the parking lot this morning and we had a long walk to the beach. He had marked the area on the beach where it happened with a big tree branch. He showed me the area of not more than 10ft square where he thought the ring must be and I am thinking this is too easy. I took two swings with the detector coil and hit the sweet sound of gold. I knew right away this was his ring so I gave him the pinpointer and let him do the honor of digging up the ring. The look on his face was amazing and he was shocked at how fast we found it. Saved another vacation from disaster. Somehow doing this never gets old!!

Lost Gold Wedding Band Found- Ogden Utah

It was late in the evening and Lee was working to get some vegetation planted on his slope behind his house to prevent erosion. He only had an hour of sun left so he was hurrying as fast as he could. After finishing, he went to wash his hands and notice his gold wedding ring that he had been wearing for the last 37.5 years was missing. He reached out me for help but I was traveling for work at the time. His neighbor offered to come search the area with his metal detector but was unsuccessful. We made plans for me to come search when I was back in town and upon arriving at his house, he showed me the area to search. I dare say it took all of about 4 minutes to get a signal that turned out to be his ring! As you can see by the picture, Lee & his dog were happy to see the ring again! Property Markers Found with a metal detector in Sanford, Florida!

A friend of mine was needing to locate some property markers/pins and asked if I could have a look with my metal detector to verify the exact locations of each pin. He and a friend had measured out where they thought they should be and on three of the pins they were fairly close. I started out at the front of the property and set my metal detector to the « All Metal » mode and along the sidewalk I found each pin just off of the cement and only a few inches under the grass. Then I went to the back of the property and found the third pin right up against an AT+T box. And the final pin was in a corner of the property that was near the corner post of the neighbors chain link fence and a city light pole. I scanned the area and found a few large rusty nails and took my small shovel and cleared a four foot square area down six inches and still no pin. I scanned again and was not able to detect anything iron so I cleared more dirt down another six inches thinking maybe some fill dirt had been added to the corner of the property and still nothing. I swung my ATMax metal detector wider around the cleared area and got a strong signal and I finally located the rebar stake with the surveyors plastic yellow cap…but the stake was laying flat under four inches of dirt as if someone had pulled it up or mistakenly had dug it up when putting in the large wooden light/utility pole or possibly when the neighbor put in his fence corner post.

Key Fob Lost On Old Orchard Beach Maine, Found With A Metal Detector And Returned To The Owner

On Thursday morning, June 20, 2024, I arrived at the beach, in Old Orchard Beach, Maine. I was searching for a lost necklace, but didn’t have a lot of time, to complete the search. I had a previous commitment, in Norway, Maine and I needed to leave the beach, no later than 7:00am, in order to make my appointment. It was now 5:00am and I got straight, to the search. It was a fairly large area to search and I knew, I would not be able to finish, until the next day.
As I searched the area, I was performing a vertical grid search,to the beach. That is, I would start my search, near the dune/seagrass and search towards the water, turn around and start the search, back up to the seagrass area. As I was searching, I found the usual suspects of trash, coins and to my surprise, a Key Fob. The Key Fob had no name of ownership on it, but it did have a # on it. Perhaps an apartment, condo or hotel room number. The search continued, until I had to leave and unfortunately, no necklace was found. I will return to continue the search, in the area I wasn’t able to complete.

I now had to find the owner, of the Key Fob. I called the Old Orchard Beach Police Department and they had no record, of someone making a report, for a lost Key Fob. The OOBPD, took my information and said if anyone calls, they would give them my contact information.
I decided to post the missing fob, on my Facebook Page, The Ring Finders of Maine, along with 5-6 other local Facebook pages. I did not show the number, on the fob, and asked for the number to be revealed and if correct, I would personally guarantee the return of the fob. Almost immediately, I started getting tips that it looked like a Key Fob, that belongs to Grand Victorian Hotel Condominium. The Grand Victorian is an oceanfront beach property, that is at the base, of the OOB PIER.

One of the messages was from Ryan and said “Hello, I am the Manager, of The Grand Victorian. Unit # *** recently lost keys, so I’m hoping, these are the ones”.

I replied, “Ryan, This is fantastic! The # is ***”. Ryan gave me the correct 3 digit number and I knew we had found the owner.

I told Ryan that I would swing by The Grand Victorian, once I returned, from Norway, around 4:00pm to 5:00pm and return the key fob. Ryan told me that if he wasn’t there, there would be staff available and I could return the fob to them. I arrived at The Grand Victorian and Ryan was not there. I was able to talk to and return the key fob, to Bill. Although I was not able to meet the owner of the key fob, Bill told me that they would be ecstatic to have the fob back in their possession.

So, what started out as a search for a necklace, turned into a very hectic day, with me being able to return someone’s key fob. A hectic but very satisfying day and another smile on my face.

Platinum ring lost and found in Va Beach!!

After an enjoyable day at the beach (at first at least) Brian was playing with his kids in the sand and lost his platinum wedding ring of 15 years! He gave us a general area it was lost in and we were able to find it and surprise him at work with his ring!

Lost engagement ring found at Pemaquid Beach in Bristol, Maine

Fellow Ringfinder Dennis Boothby directed Ian and Hannah to me, after she lost her diamond & ruby engagement ring in 3ft of water at Pemaquid Beach in Bristol yesterday afternoon. I headed down after work to search and was successful in recovering the ring. Ian’s aunt had given him this ring to keep for Hannah for when they got engaged. With the big day June 29th approaching rapidly, I was glad to recover it for them. A portion of their generous reward will be directed to the Knox County Fish & Game Association scholarship fund.

RING FOUND AT OVAL BEACH, Saugatuck, MI.

 Julia and her husband Dave are vacationing in western Michigan this week from their home on the eastern part of the state. She was at the concession stand and took her ring off and put it in a side pocket on her purse. She then headed down the deck walkway to the beach where they sat on the beach. Hours later she looked in the pocket for her ring and it was not there-pocket was not fully closed. I met Dave at the beach and we started off down the walkway and then searched in the sand down the dune to where they were sitting on the beach. Searched about a 20 ft x 20 ft area where they were sitting with no luck. Headed back up the sandy dune toward the walkway again and searched that area more thoroughly finding a penny, a tent stake and a pull tab. I gave Dave the pinpointer and he was checking and finding all of the targets. Just about ready to give up but decided to search the edges of the deck walkway where the sand had blown up. The walkway has large gaps between the boards but the sand has blown up along the edges so I started to search that edge. With all the nails and bolts in the deck this was not an easy task. Toward the top of the walkway the deck turns into concrete but still has the wooden fence. Now the concrete has rebar in it and there are still nails and bolts in the fence. Just by chance I notice a slight change in the noise coming from the rebar and the nails and I had Dave check this one spot next to the fence.
He stuck the pinpointer in that spot and THERE WAS THE RING!! Dave said he remembered Julia stopping at that fence and taking a picture of the beach and the lake below. Pressing her purse up against the fence was enough to dislodge the ring from the little pocket. Now they can enjoy the rest of their vacation. Sometimes you just get lucky.

Lost Titanium Wedding Ring Found- Salem, Utah

I received a call from a man who was working construction near Salem, Utah. They were putting in a large underground pipe system and his hands got dirty so he went to wash them off. While he was doing that, he put his beautiful titanium ring with turquois inlay in his vest pocket. After returning to work, he realized he never put his ring back on and upon checking his pocket, it was gone. They searched the area with a metal detector and for a last resort he reached out to me for help. They were about to fill in that section of the pipe system so I knew I had very little time.

When I arrived, the recent warm weather turned the area into a very muddy construction site. I searched all over the area he thought it could be and then I went down into the area that they dug out. I cleared some trash from the area to ensure I could get all the signals. Fortunately, right next to the valve where he was working, I found his beautiful ring. His wife had joined him that day and they had just barely returned from getting food when I was able to surprise both of them with the ring. Check out their reactions on my YouTube Channel!

Lost Set of Keys Found After Heavy Snow- Midway, Utah

After a very heavy snow storm at the start of 2024, I received a call regarding a pair of lost keys. He was at work and due to the storm was going to stay the night. While he was unloading his stuff from his car, he lost his only set of car keys walking from his car to his room. During the night, over 24 inches dropped and by morning, the crew was out shoveling the snow from the street where he parked his car. To get a locksmith to come and make a new key was going to cost a fortune so when his wife  reached out me, I dropped everything to go look for it. It was hard because keys can ring up like iron and with the snow crew moving snow around, there were huge piles of snow everywhere. After a solid 2.5 hours and just as I was about give up, I got a signal on the other side of a pile of snow. It turned out to be his keys. The snow was so deep, I was up to my waist trying to get to it. So happy I was able to get the lost keys back and he was able to get home to his family. Check out the full video on YouTube-

Buried Sewer Clean-out’s…Located By Metal Detector!

As a member of THE RING FINDERS community, I often get calls for missing items such as; men’s and woman’s rings, earrings, cell phones, and keys.  I even have gotten a number of requests for missing or locating property pins.  I also get to meet a great deal of interesting personalities while on these requests for assistance.  Ken’s story is a little bit different and takes place on a large plot of land.  A few years earlier, he had trenched and ran new sewer lines with a clean-out every 100 feet.  Before burying these lines he capped the clean-outs with a big brass fitting.  The thought was that these large brass caps would be simple to locate with a metal detector should the need arise.

Fast forward to May of this year, Ken purchased a metal detector and fabricated a probe to rediscover his clean-outs.  After several attempts at locating them and hundreds of probes pushed into the ground, I received a request for assistance.

Our First attempts found highly mineralized ground and a lot of debris around our target area.  Usually, I would move to a smaller coil, ground balance, and turn up the target separation on my equinox, however in this application we needed depth to locate what was thought to have been 16″ to 18″ down.  We searched for 2 hours in the hot days sun before concluding our search.  Ken and I had a lot of great conversation but both were disappointed in the result.  I left questioning if I had the depth required to even see our target.

I stewed about the issues we had faced for a couple of days and decided I needed another shot.  I utilized the money I received from our previous search to supplement the purchase of a new larger coil.  I turned my target separation down to 1 to achieve maximum depth and power and on Saturday I returned to the field.  Ken had located some older photos that proved we were indeed in the right area.  We gave it another shot and we found a target and probed…nothing!  Found a target and probed…nothing!  Our third and best target we probed…it was an area we had probed during the previous search…suddenly Ken hit something!  We both smiled, hopeful that the search was indeed over.  We both grabbed a shovel and began to dig and at just about 20″ in depth we located the first brass clean-out cap.  I think we were both equal part excited and equal part relieved.

Afterwards, we marked out 100′ up hill in the direction the sewer pipes traveled and began again.

Thank you Ken!  I enjoyed our conversations and the opportunity to work on a different project than those I typically perform.  I learned some valuable knowledge and procured new equipment to continue helping others.
