I get a call from a Montreal area code and the young man said I’m in town working(Actor) I lost my ring in the ocean and can you help me find it? Of course I’m always up for the challenge and head out to Spanish Banks beach at 10 pm to work the water as it was going out.

This search was a little tough as he didn’t know the exact location, but after asking my questions I felt good about the search. I did a little stretch of the dry sand and had no luck so I headed into the water. Surprisingly there wasn’t many signals in the water, as a matter of fact the first signal I got was the young men’s ring. I was extremely happy as it only took 10 minutes to find the ring. That was a good thing because I had to work early in the next morning.

Grasonville MD Lost ring

Grasonville MD. Salt water, SCUBA 3 mil wetsuit, Excalibur detector, Garrett Pro and Vibra-quatic probes. Time 1:45 hours depth 4 to 7 feet.

I think it is important to also post the unrecovered calls. I suggest that even the rare “misses” are successful, in that the client knows he or she did all they could to find the item. I detail these events so you can learn and apply to your own experience.

After calling two other searchers, a very nice lady called about her lost her engagement ring. Two weeks before, while at Harris Crab House (a great restaurant) the diamond ring went missing. She was pretty sure that when the ring slipped off, it dropped in-between two boards, and went into 8 to 10 feet deep water below the dock. She immediately got a local diver (without a detector) to search, but he couldn’t find the ring. She then had a wading metal detectorist look, but he didn’t have SCUBA.

I called the manager and got permission to dive on the next Sunday morning. When I arrived, managers Bob and Mike were very accommodating. Bob told me the previous detectorist had been there twice. He also told me that he had experienced two other lost rings which were eventually found in the trash.

The entry depth was about 7 feet, but under the dock it was 4 feet deep. I asked the client to re-enact what happened. I then dropped a weighted line between the boards to where the ring fell. Before submerging, I checked the boards under the dock in case the ring landed on a cross beam.

The target area was small and had visibility of about six inches, so I initially used a 3’x 3’ PVC grid with the probes. I then searched the area again with the Excalibur detector. In the event the ring rolled off the dock or was moved, I extended my search area by several yards, but I only found trash.

I suppose it’s possible the ring didn’t actually make it into the water, or one or the other searchers accidently moved it. Being on SCUBA allowed me to get within inches of the bottom and have visual conformation on all targets. No matter what, I feel really bad I couldn’t find this nice lady’s ring.

Lost Gold Wedding Band at Ulua Lagoon Ko Olina…FOUND!!!

This ring find actually began on Friday August 25th when I got a call from Daniel who lives in Sacramento California and was attending a convention on Oahu. While playing catch with a football on the beach his brother Albert caught the ball but in doing so his Gold Wedding Band flew off into the dry sand. The brothers attempted looking for it but with darkness fast approaching Aloha Security told them to call me. It was dark when I arrived but Daniel’s phone and the bright moon was enough to see what we were doing. They had drawn a grid in the sand for me prior to getting there so I was able to go to work immediately. I searched the entire grid and the ring wasn’t in it. Daniel had me expand the search towards the grass but still no ring. It couldn’t have just disappeared! I started expanding the grid search in the other direction and « Ka Pow » that signal blew my ears off. A second later and one scoop down there in the moonlight was Albert’s Gold Ring in my scoop. Daniel couldn’t believe it was so far away from where Albert had caught the ball. Albert had already left to tell his wife he lost the ring so the brothers were joking Albert just might get out of trouble tonight after they meet up at their rooms. As you can see Albert is quite the ham but happy to have his ring back. Aloha to Albert and his brothers!

Mens Gold Wedding Band – Lost & Found On Studland Beach

Ben, originally was from Swanage, was down for a few days with his wife from London making the most of the recent weather. The beach had swollen with people that day so they both wandered off to find a quiet place to swim.

Ben sensibly placed his ring into his jeans pocket for safe keeping but when he returned he forgot the ring was in there and felt it fall from his pocket into the sand somewhere. A desperate search probably made things worse- the ring sank deeper & deeper. They had only been married two years and the sense of loss must have been enormous.

Ben called me a couple of days after he had lost it. Where he had lost it exactly was now a little clouded and with the beach combed every day by treasure hunters – I wasn’t hopeful. I set out and covered 375m square to the north along the beach.. nothing. I begun my grid for another 375m south and after half an hour approx, the sound of gold filled my headphones.

Ben was very grateful to be reunited with the ring and I was grateful as he, without hesitation, contacted Margret Green Animal Rescue and made a generous donation.

Property Markers Found In Vermont

I’ve been pretty busy with other types of searches lately, not just jewelry. A few weeks ago an older gentleman called me after he learned I search for things with metal detectors. His daughter had just had a large cedar fence installed on her side and back lawn. She was second guessing herself about whether she had told the fence installers the correct borders of her property. She thought there was a possibility that the side fence might be partially on her neighbor’s property. They figured it would cost a bundle to hire a surveyor, and may take some time to get it done. So, they called me to see if I could find the lines. I went right up that weekend to try to locate the markers. They helped me by providing the deed and helping me measure back from the street right of ways. After about an hour we found all 3 of the markers that indicated where the back and side of her property was. The good news was that the side she was worried about was fine, it was about 3′ inside her line. The bad news was that about 1/2 of the back section of fence was on the other neighbors land. We all knew that the fence installers would charge a lot to come back and move the fencing. So, I offered to go back and do it for her. A couple weeks later I went back and removed 2 of the side sections and moved the other 7 sections back onto her property.
They were the nicest people, offering me water food and help. They were from the Southwest and that Southern Hospitality was great!

Lost Wedding Band 2nd Beach, Stanley Park…Found!

I saw an ad about a lost ring and it gave a fantastic description of the area where the ring was lost. I sent out an email with my contact info about my website TheRingFinders.com

I won’t go out on these types of searches without talking to the person first as you need to get the exact info in regards to the area it was lost in and how it was lost.

Two days later I receive a call from a young lady who said that she saw my email and wanted to know if I could take a look for her husband’s ring. Of course I wanted to but I had to wait until low tide the next morning.

I worked until 12;30am that night and got up at 5am to hit the low tide, when I got there around 6am I could see lots of holes in the exact area that they had advertised the ring to be missing…That’s not a great thing to see when you know that someone saw the ad and came out before me.

I started my grid search and got a few coins and some bottle caps but no ring. I kept extending my grid search and just a little after an hour of searching I found the ring!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The young man told me that he was happily married for 31 years and that it meant a lot to get his ring it back!

Stone Harbor NJ Lost Wedding Ring Found by Dave Milsted

I received a desperate email from a devastated woman. I was Mary’s last hope. The day before she went with her family for a day trip to the beach in Stone Harbor NJ. While her husband in the water with their daughter, he watched his ring fall off his hand and sink into the sandy bottom. They searched for a while with no success.

They drove back home thinking that the ring was gone forever. A search of the internet, later that night brought Mary to the Ring Finders site since I have made other recoveries in Stone Harbor. She sent me an email around midnight.

I didn’t see it until after my 6-mile run the next morning. I answered her email asking all of the questions needed when doing a water search. I also followed up with a phone call. Mary answered all of my questions, but she said there was someone else already looking for the ring. I said to let me know if she needed me when he was done.

Later in the morning, I called the other detectorist. He said that he didn’t have any luck in finding it. So Mary and I were in touch again. I told her that I would go look for her.

On the drive to the beach, I was getting a gut feeling that this wouldn’t be successful. Someone else already searched the area. I asked for help from above from my mom & my mentor.

I got to the beach and got another bad feeling. I waited till the lifeguards left. I was in the water at 5 pm. I didn’t get my first signal till 5:10 pm. It was a very promising sound and number on my CTX 3030. It was the ring that I was looking for. I left the beach to get my phone to take some pictures. I sent one to Mary. She called right away and I could tell that she was crying. We made arrangements to meet the next day to return the ring.

I got plenty of hugs when we met. It’s a good thing that my wife doesn’t get jealous!!!

Ring Found on Recreation Field near Burlington Vermont

I was contacted by a woman who lost her ring a few days ago. It was a very special ring to her, her parents had given her the ring over 20 years ago, it had her birthstone in it. She wears it every day, only taking it off to play soccer. Unfortunately, she was taking it off on her way across a soccer field, and dropped it in the grass. Her game was about to start, so she memorized the location and decided to look for it after the game was over. Having no luck, and about to go out of state, she decided to call me for help. She had heard of my service (The Ring Finders) from some friends that I had found car keys for. She was going to wait until she got home from her trip so she could help me search, but I suggested that I search right away so that the chances of us finding it, before someone else did, would be better. So, I went up the very next evening. She emailed a very detailed drawing of where she had lost the ring. It’s a good thing because there are over 6 soccer fields in that recreation area! Within about an hour I found it, and messaged a picture to her. She was so relieved, and could enjoy her trip. When she returned, I gave it back and she put it back on immediately, saying it felt so good to be back where it belonged.

Location? Location? Luck! Lead to ring return from West Dennis beach, Cape Cod, MA

An E-mail requesting help finding a lost wedding band just needed a lot more information. First there are two Sea Street beaches in Dennis; which one? Then a Google map only shows one jetty, a second one was covered by sand in the display. Google’s visible jetty was highlighted as the area the ring was most likely lost at. Fortunately I asked the right questions, got good “clues” on where to look. But as I started walking to the jetty, I stumbled across the previously sand covered jetty and started searching in that area. I was lucky I did as about 15 feet from the jetty’s point I heard the sound of gold and retrieved Eric’s wedding band. Four days latter the US Postal Service delivered the ring to Eric who was kind enough to send me the attached photos…for this, my 50th posting on TheRingFinders.com.

Lost Platinum Wedding Band at Kahala Beach West…FOUND!!!

This ring find began when I got a call from Steve who lives near Diamond Head on Oahu. While his son was throwing a football back to his wife on the shoreline at the beach his platinum wedding band flew off into the water. They searched with goggles for awhile but the incoming surf was too much and buried the ring. This beach is very small and Steve knew the approximate location and the details of the loss. I told him we could meet after work and hunt for his son’s ring. When we arrived Steve demonstrated what had happened and I started my search. It was only about waist deep water at the deep end but the bottom was littered with rocks that kept interfering with my detector’s sweep. I covered the area thoroughly but didn’t find the ring. Steve got a call from his wife and had to leave. There was another ring lost in this area so I decided to continue my grid search. I was seconds into the search when I got a nice tone and there was a platinum ring in my scoop that looked just like the pics Steve had shown me. Luckily he hadn’t gotten all the way down the path and I shouted his name. He turned around and I yelled I think I found your son’s ring. He came back and verified it was the one. Then he said « Joe your the real deal » Thank you very much! He was going to surprise his son and the wife I’m sure it will be a joyous surprise. Aloha to Steve!
