*** Nik had pulled his motor cycle out his garage to do an afternoon ride. As he was preparing his riding attire, his gloves were pinching his left ring finger. He pulled his left glove off with his right hand. Then he heard the ping of his platinum wedding ring hit the asphalt driveway.

He purchase a metal detector from a local sporting goods store. There was only a 2ft wide strip of dirt with a metal cyclone fence. The long dirt area had dried leaves that could hide a ring. The metal fence was 6” above the ground.

Nik was sure the ring flew to the right of where he had been standing. I scanned 50ft to the right and just for a good measure I did 30ft to the left, even though Nik was insistent that the glove pulled the ring flinging it to the right.

After two hours it was getting dark and I was ready to give up. Nik asked me if I could double check the other side of the fence one more time. I agreed even though I felt it was a waste of time. If it made him feel better that was the least I could do. My second attempt on the other side of the fence yielded nothing. Walking back to my car, I was casually swinging the detector when I got a great signal 50ft.in the opposite direction he had believed his ring flew off his finger. It was Nik’s platinum wedding ring.

Here’s what happened. The ring flew off his finger when his left hand popped out of the glove. He thought the ring was in the glove and went to the right as he pulled hid left glove off with his right hand. Confusing, yes, I’m giving up on trying to guess which way rings go when people are throwing things.  Just grid search everywhere, don’t try to figure out which way the ring went.

Nik was very emotional and grateful to have his wedding ring back. It was not looking good after a couple hours in such a easy search area. It’s amazing to see all the crazy places these rings end up.

** I just got out of the water where I had been practicing dive recovery techniques. When I checked my phone I could see a text asking for help finding a lost ring at Califia State Beach, San Clemente, CA.

I called Caroline right away and they were still at the location. She said her white gold diamond ring was lost in dry sand. I told them I could be there in less than an hour. They said, they could stay to show me the area. It would also be better because the beach was crowded now and many seemed to be leaving.

When I arrived, I scanned the whole area around their pop-up tent with no sign of her most prized engagement ring. We had one more place that i couldn’t get to on the dry sand. Another group of beach goers were still on that spot.

While waiting for the other space to be available to search, I asked Caroline if she went into the ocean. She said only walked into the surf for a few minutes but she was sure the ring wasn’t lost in the water.

I took a few minutes to grid search ankle deep incoming tide. While doing that I checked the tide schedule on my iPhone app. When I tried to put my phone in my pocket I missed the pocket and my phone was lost in the surf.

Frantically scanning the surf for my phone, BOOM! Caroline’s beautiful white gold diamond engagement ring found.. My phone was never recovered, crazy what the ocean can do. The flat phone must have just got pulled way down into the deep water.

Caroline and Bob were very grateful and couldn’t believe how her ring was lost in the area she had only visited for 5 minutes.  I was happy for them and I immediately left to get a replacement for my phone as was Sunday and the phone company closes early. I need a phone to be available for the next recovery call.

*** Kristina called asking for help finding a gold necklace lost in the sand at Newport Beach, CA. It was already dark when she contacted me, but that isn’t a problem for me. I asked if she was available to meet me at the location within the next 20 minutes as I am very close to that beach.

Kristina met me on the beach soon after we talked. I explained that it was important to do the search before the morning beach cleaning machines started their work. Not knowing what type of gold chain I was looking for I told her that some metal detectors can’t detect gold chains especially if there isn’t a pendant with it.

We set up a grid search area and the gold necklace was found easily with my high frequency settings on my most reliable detector. ( the one I have set up for small gold stud earrings). Needless to say Kristina was totally elated and happy that this sentimental keepsake was not lost forever. It was a pleasure to meet her and help her find this necklace. I love being able to do this.

*** Mohamed and his wife had been at Newport Beach, CA.  during the day. When they got home his wife, Denna discovered her white gold diamond wedding ring was not on her finger. Mohamed found my information online while researching metal detectors.

It was about  8pm in the evening when he called me. After he told me the general location, I knew it was important not to wait till tomorrow to do the search. He said he was 20 minutes away and could meet me on the beach in the dark. I was at the location about 5 minutes before he met me at the towel line.

He started me in an area he thought was where the had been. Then as he wondered around in the area he called me over to a location that looked better. As he talked to his wife on the phone,

she told him there was some sort a white ribbon near where they had been sitting.

I was grid searching the second zone when Mohamed called me over to the third area where he spotted the ribbon. Note he was wandering around in the dark using his celphone flashlight. It didn’t take long to find the ring with my metal detector after we found the correct location. Actually a whole block away from where he started me. This seems to be normal especially at night after the people have left the beach.

He was absolutely super excited because he did not trust that the metal detector could find such a small item in the massive area of sand. It was also a very beautiful ring and because it was the original wedding ring any replacement would never be the same. We did work together to make this happen. I enjoyed meeting Mohamed and it was my pleasure to help him find such an important part of he and his wife’s marriage.

Lost Ring Found and Returned to Young Lady .. Will Rodgers State Beach, Pacific Palisades, CA.

I received a call from Camelle requesting my help to find a sentimental ring lost in the sand at Will Rodgers State Beach, Pacific Palisades, CA… I met her and her father before they left the beach. The search was not too difficult because they had contacted me soon after she discovered the ring missing. After they showed me a 100 ft. square area, I was able to locate the ring in less than a half hour.

Sand can be unforgiving to search without proper tools. The good thing is that sand is a good hiding place that prevents a random person find a valuable keepsake. There are many good people that would return an item but most the time they can’t find the owner.

It was so rewarding to see the smile and the gratitude that Camelle showed me. Both her and her father were relieved to have this sentimental ring back where it belongs.

*** Vanessa and her family were in Huntington Beach, CA. visiting relatives. While playing in the ocean withe her kids, her white gold diamond engagement ring  was lost in the surf. She and her husband had been together for 20 years and the had just given her the ring a couple weeks before.

Venessa’s cousin, Chantel found my phone number while searching the internet. Chantel gave me detatailed information on the time of day the ring was lost. It was 20 ft. north of lifeguard tower 17. Because it was lost at high tide, I felt we had a chance to find ring at a 2am low tide.

Arriving  at Huntington Beach a half hour before low tide and after about an hour of grid searching, my detector gave me the great signal that turned out to be Venessa ’s ring. I waited till 8am to call them with the good news followed by a photo of the ring.

Venessa and her husband were returning their home in Arizona today, so they were able to stop by to pick up the ring. A very happy couple and it was my pleasure to be available to help them.

*** Christie lost her white gold diamond engagement ring in the surf at a Orange County, CA. beach. She was home 50 miles inland when she contacted me. We talked about the time of day the loss occurred and she gave me verbal directions as to a good landmark on the beach. Neither she or her husband could meet me at the location.

I was able to get to beach at a 4am minus low tide the next day. After more than two hours I got a good signal in knee deep waves that turned out to be Christie’s awesome ring. Even though I cross gridded for another hour the wedding ring did not show. Normally both rings are very close together the first couple days of the loss.

Christie told me in the begging that she was only interested to recover the engagement ring. I did go back a second day for one more try to find the other ring. Crazy surf conditions make for a challenging search. Had to give up on the second ring.

Christie and her husband were able to meet me after they got off work. She was more than happy to have her ring back after believing that it was list forever. We never know if I may find the other ring some day. It’s happened before.

*** After doing a ring recovery for Justin at Bolsa Chica State Beach, I took a little time to detect around the Firepits before driving home. After about a half hour,  I found a new Iphone that was in the sand next to a firepit. The battery needed charging.

Returning home I was able to put a quick charge on the phone. It was locked but I did intercept a message. It said, ”This is a lost cellphone please call this phone number XXX-XXX-XXXX”

I guess this is a function of find apple iPhone ” Find My Phone”..  I contacted the owner using my phone to call him. He sent a friend to pick up the phone later that afternoon. I found out the phone had been lost four days at that location on the beach.

Last time I found the owner of a locked Iphone. I was able to get past the locked feature by asking Siri to call mom. The phone called the owners mother.

*** Carol is visiting Laguna Beach, CA. Her daughter and her went to the beach the day before returning to Utah.. She took her white gold diamond engagement ring off while applying sunscreen setting it on her towel. The rest of the story happens every day, she got distracted, forgetting the ring was there. She didn’t realize her ring was missing until she got to her car.

She returned to the location, spending over an hour of frantically searching for the ring. Someone passing by suggested that she search the internet for my contact information. I got the call taking time to ask a few questions and was able to meet her a half hour later. As we walked down a long set of stairs, she told me she knew it was a long shot but she wanted to make sure we at least tried to search for the ring. I told her if she can get me in the general location, we could find the ring.

As soon as I saw how positive she was about returning to same spot where they had been sitting, I knew this was going to be easy. I set up my metal detector and had the small white gold diamond engagement ring in the scoop a few minutes later. Metal detectors are a good tool for finding rings but the successful recovery has to be credited to Carol getting me to the general area.

She was more than grateful because she had already decided it was going to be impossible to find such a small item in the mass of sand on that beach. Another happy day for Carol and myself

***  Melissa and Jason had been hitting a volley ball around while on the dry sand at Surfruder Beach, Malibu, CA. Melissa felt her gold class ring fly off her finger, disappearing into the sand. After a hour or more of searching the area they gave up searching. A person on the beach told them about the ring finders directory of metal detector specialists.

Melissa called me asking for help. I was available to meet them later that afternoon. There were many people still on the small beach. Actually it looked like we would have to wait till people left the beach. That is not a new problem, it’s just a matter of out waiting the beachgoers. The sun will set and the afternoon winds will chase them off the beach.

There were a few open areas of dry sand that allowed me to start eliminating the some spots that the ring could be hiding. I very rarely ask people to move, I don’t feel like bothering people that are enjoying a restful day at the beach. Once in a while people will volunteer to move their towels which is nice. Most the time I try not to tell them I’m looking for a valuable item. Just an important key ( it’s just a little white lie ). Sometimes if you tell them your looking for a valuable item, it causes a searching frenzy. Everybody wants to help and it gets crazy.

Almost finished detecting the few 10’x10’ open spots with no success, the magic tone of a gold ring was heard in my headphones. One scoop in the sand revealed Melissa’s awesome gold class ring. Melissa and Jason were near me and didn’t realize that the ring was in the scoop until I held the scoop up for her to see her ring. A very intense moment with smiles all around. It was another win for The RingFinders website directory.
