When Aditi contacted me on the 7th of May, I had no clue about the new lesson I was about to be taught.  At this point, I did not even know the issues that existed that would lead to the lessons I would be learning during this recovery.

Aditi requested help locating her platinum and diamond stud earring. The stud had been displaced from her ear by one of her young sons.  They were in a large grass field observing a soccer match when the incident occurred and she had visually seen the disposed earring fall into the grass. Now, these were very nice earrings, but what made them even more special was that these were a 10 year anniversary gift from her adoring husband. After searching for some time the family sadly left the park and Aditi sought out an alternative solution.  A google search put her on The Ring Finders page and in contact with me.  With the last of the days light waning, it was determined that I would perform the search the following afternoon.

The next day was beautiful and I had high hopes for a successful speedy recovery, though I knew that a stud earring in a grass field might be extremely difficult.  I met Aditi’s mother at the sports fields.  She too, had been there the day prior and assisted with the search.  A boundary was set and I grid the search zone with cones I carry in my kit.  I was utilizing my Equinox 800 with the large coil and searched in Park 2.  Additionally, I was using my Garret pin pointer to scan the lawn when potential signals were noted. After 1 hour, the mother suggested we conclude the search but I stayed with it another 30 minutes before calling it off to regroup. I sent a message to Aditi letting her know what I had done and that I had been unsuccessful, but not to lose hope.  I knew that I was going back.

Back home I ran a series of tests with different coils and different settings on my wife’s stud earrings.  I contacted a few trusted detectorists for advice.  The first lesson I discovered in this process was that these stud earrings were very difficult to pick up regardless of settings and coils.  The second lesson I learned was that the Garret pin pointer could not pick up the greater majority of the stud earrings I tested.  This meant that all of the would-be-targets that I did detect and used the pin pointer to clear, it gave me a false probability of detection. I would be going back to the field.

The next opportunity I got, I made the trip back to the sports park and reestablished the grid in the defined search area. I also utilized the 6″ coil in the Gold 1 setting which I found to be the most useful during my testing.   This time I painstakingly visually searched the grass beneath any and all promising targets. About 45 minutes into this trip I had a booming repetitive VDI of 1, I got down low and combed through the tall, thick, green grass and that was when I knew, we had made the recovery!

Before removing the item, I tested the pin pointer…nothing!!!  I took a series of photos and sent a text to Aditi wishing her a Happy Mothers Day followed by images of her once lost and now found platinum and diamond earring.  I’m hopeful that it helped make her day just a little bit brighter.  Thank you Aditi for trusting me with the recovery of your jewelry!  I do not take that trust lightly and will always do my absolute best to prove that.

Three gold rings thought to be lost in Alamo, CA…Found!!!

A physiological response to real or perceived threats and stressors is that the body increases electrical activity in the brain and produces adrenaline and cortisol.  This is a basic fight or flight response.  Memory loss can also result if that process occurs when fear or anxiety is excessive and (or) persistent.

This seems to have been the case in a number of searches I have been called upon to perform.  Individuals state with absolute certainty that this is where or what they had done with their ring(s) only to later realize that what they perceived to be fact was incorrect. The stress and anxiety of loosing such a valuable and cherished item can cloud the memory of what actually took place.

This was not the case with Caeti!  She contacted me after misplacing 3 of her 4 rings during a trip to the nail salon including her beautiful wedding band with 7 diamonds.  She goes on to explain that she placed all 4 rings into a sunglasses case and then into her purse during the trip.  Once her nails were done, she returned to the car and opened the case to put her sunglasses on for the short return trip home.  Once home, she went to put her sunglasses away in the case and retrieve her rings.  Remember that physiologic response I babbled about above, that is where this kicks in.  Upon opening the sunglasses case, only her engagement ring was found.  The other three rings seemingly vanished and panic set in as she retraced her steps all the way back to the nail salon. A search of the salon and the parking lot produced nothing.  A search of the vehicle produced nothing. The driveway, the house, the purse…all nothing!

The next afternoon I joined the investigation into the missing three rings. I went to the salon and spoke with them, I searched the parking lot, talked to other businesses in the same shopping center, all with no results.  I then made my way to see Caeti.  She was clearly upset about the loss and resolute in the fact that the rings were indeed placed into the sunglasses case.  As I prepared to search her vehicle I recommended a look at the purse and sunglasses case.  She promptly produced both and as I looked down into the sunglasses case I also saw the tiniest of gold peaking out.  All three rings had slipped behind the satiny lining inside the case cloaking themselves from vision.  We had made the recovery!!!

In Caeti’s case the stress and anxiety did not cloud her memory of the events in the least, rather the shock of not initially finding the ring within the glasses case derailed her from what she already knew.  The rings were indeed placed into the case and there they remained.

I’m very much excited that I was able to help locate these (3) rings and get them back into (or onto) the hands to which they belonged.  Caeti, I wish you and your new family a very exciting future and am glad that your tale of woe has transformed into a funny story about that one time…

Lost Wedding Band in Dublin, CA…FOUND!!!

Bay Area Ring Finders: Brendon Chapman… Metal Detecting Service/Call ASAP     925-580-2590

This week represents my first year anniversary of being a member of The Ring Finders Team.  I have been extremely proud of the efforts I have put in and the families that I have helped.  I have networked with some of the very best and most kind metal detectorists out there.  I have learned a ton about my machine(s) and myself.  It has been an absolute pleasure! So…when Shashi called seeking assistance in locating his wedding band, it was the perfect opportunity to cap off a very successful first year.

Shashi and his family had been knocking around a volleyball at Emerald Glen Park in Dublin, CA when he felt the ring slip off while striking the ball.  The most frustrating and helpless feeling has to be when you know exactly the when, where, and how you have lost an object, but just can not locate it despite monumental efforts.  This was the case for Shashi and his family who spend a goodly amount of time searching before they happened upon my information.  With the waning light and night looming, I requested he capture the GPS location with his phone and we agreed to meet the following day.

When we met, Shashi was able to put me literally on the exact spot his ring was lost and… we made the recovery!!!  Shashi was in disbelief that we had found it and I was overjoyed to cap off my first year with such a commanding triumph!

CALL SURF CITY RING FINDER

I received a call from Eddie asking if I could help find his wedding ring near the Huntington Beach Pier. He told me he was leaving to go have dinner with his family and he would meet me later.

I decided to go early and do some detecting for myself until I realized the sun would be setting soon, so I called Eddie and asked for the location of the loss. I headed over to the spot and within 5 minutes I found his Tungsten wedding ring. It helped that I could see where they were running their fingers through the sand.

When Eddie arrived I met him in the parking lot and handed him my business card and that’s when he saw I was wearing his ring. The look on his face was priceless.

LOST WEDDING RING WAIKIKI FOUND!

  • from Waikīkī Beach (Hawaii, United States)

Mid morning I receive a phone call about a loss wedding band in Waikiki from Anjelica. I let Anjelica know that I will come out and help find the ring when I get a break from work. She expressed her gratitude and I gathered as much information as I could to narrow the search site. I then get a phone call from her husband Patrick who was the one who actually lost his wedding ring. We spoke and I gathered a lot more information and that was enough for me so I  decided to stop what I was doing at work and head out to meet up wit Patrick and Angelica. I gathered all my gear and headed to waikiki beach. I meet the couple on the beach and they both express their gratitude and let me know the area of where they believe the ring was lost. I started my grid outside of their area because there was surf and there was also a lot of current. During the search I dug a bunch of different targets that got everyone’s hopes up… including the local family on the beach who’s younger daughter decided to take it upon her shoulders and put on her goggles and help look for this precious ring. After 30 minutes and countless targets I get a familiar sound and I start to dig it with my XTREME scoop. I put on my mask and snorkel and deep in the back of the scoop there is a gold ring. I remember Anjelica telling me the ring is inscribed inside with her name and his. And low and behold … inside the wedding band is both their names! I picked my head up out of the water and noticed Anjelica is 10 feet away from me. I walk over to her and lean over and whisper “it’s a Cartier? And her eyes lit up like the beautiful sunset and with a loud shout she said “YES!”and gave me the biggest hug. I looked over at Patrick and gave him a thumbs up and the beach clapped and celebrated while we all knew what was loss is now found. Another great ending and beautiful day here in the islands. Anjelica and Patrick enjoy your time here in the islands… Aloha is Alive!

Lost wedding ring North Shore found

  • from Waikīkī Beach (Hawaii, United States)

This ring find started out with a phone call in the evening from Simon. He asked if I would be able to go to the North Shore and search for his platinum Cartier wedding ring which he lost while swimming. I gathered all the details concerning the time he lost it so I could verify the tides and also try to get as much information to put me in the right area for a recovery. It was getting late and I had to put the kids to sleep and knew if this was going to be a success I needed to head down early. So, Early the next morning I took a drive out to Sharks cove And gathered all my gear and hike down to the cove. I was greeted at the shoreline by a mother and daughter which they ask am I looking for anything and I replied yes a young men’s wedding ring. They both looked at each other and said are you able to find it? I replied I’m going to give it my best and they both smiled as we departed. The area to search was quite large but I decided to give it my best shot and search the deepest areas first as it was low tide. I found countless amounts of pulltabs and aluminum. After dodging a bunch of snorkelers I get this really good tone. I secure the target and dig with my extreme scoop and low and behold there in my scoop is Simon‘s platinum wedding ring. As I look up above the waterline I notice two swimmers swimming to me and those were the two that I met at the shoreline. As we gathered closer I was able to show them the wedding ring that was once lost is now found. They both underwater seen the ring in my hand as I held it out to them with a thumbs up… and they both screamed and stood up and said you found it! We all were excited and happy to know that there was a happy ending with this incident. The drive home was not least burdensome. I got to call Simon with the Good news and left him a message. Simon called me back and we were able to meet up at their hotel in Waikiki. The reunion of the ring to the owner was nothing short of a miracle and smiles that expressed gratitude. Well, I’m Happy to help recover this beautiful ring and Simon enjoy your time here in Hawaii.

Heirloom and engagement ring lost and found.

Received a phone call from a young lady last evening about having lost her engagement ring. This ring was very special as the diamond was a heirloom given to her fiancé, for him to have the ring especially made for her. She mentioned that she took her dog for a walk to the park and that she was also doing yard work in the back yard. The grass rack broke and she was picking up grass clippings with her hands. With that said, I was pretty sure the ring would be located in her yard. After 45 minutes of gridding the yard, I found the ring. It was so well disguised, in the grass, that there is no way anyone could of found it just by looking. I’m so happy I was able to reunite her with her beautiful ring. Her reaction in the video is priceless. All that ends well!!

I received a call around 3:30 pm yesterday from Dave telling me his wife Christy had lost her wedding ring. She had been doing finger painting with her kids in the back yard and  after she cleaned up realized her ring was missing. They had both looked in the grass and had no luck finding it.

Dave went on the internet to find a metal detector to rent and found The Ring Finders web site, so he contacted me. I told Dave I would be down around 4:30 pm and have the ring back on Christy’s finger.

Christy showed me where she was playing with the kids in the yard, had taken off her ring and set it on the table.  I checked in the grass around the table,  moved the table and chairs out of the way,  and about about 2 feet from the table,  I received a sweet tone,  pulled out my pin pointer and bingo,  there hidden in the grass was the ring.  Without the right tools in hand this ring would never have been found.

Another happy client.  Thank you Christy & Dave for entrusting me and The Ring finders to locate your lost ring.

Dawna  emailed me late last night asking if I would help find  her ring. When I called her this morning she told me that she had been doing yard work on Tuesday and that evening noticed her ring was missing from her finger.  Over the next few days she went out to try and find it but with no luck,  then thought that perhaps she had lost it in her bedroom and was unable to find it there either.

When I arrived around 8:30 this morning she showed me where in the yard her ring might be,  and said that she had also worked in her flower pots.  I checked a small area in her front yard, then moved to the back yard and did the same.  Her ring was in the last pot that  I checked in the back yard. My pin-pointer picked up a strong signal about three inched down. Another Happy Client. Thank you Dawna for e-mailing TheRingFinders.
