Lost Wedding Ring Up Big Cottonwood Canyon- Found

This was actually my last recovery of 2023. I received a call from a couple that was visiting from Florida. They were finalizing all their wedding plans and were preparing to fly back to Florida to get married on New Year’s Eve. They went up Big Cottonwood Canyon to take pictures when he realized his ring was missing. It was a beautiful silver ring with an opal stone.

We made plans to meet the following day to search the area where they had taken pictures. He provided me with some very good intel on possible areas to search. They were staying at a relative’s house about an hour away so I was able to get to the  location before they did and I quickly started to search. The snow was not deep and since silver is usually such a high tone, I quickly focused on signals in that range. In about 5 minutes, I had located the ring! They pulled up and I was able to surprise him with the ring! It’s always awesome to see the stress go away when presenting that lost item to someone. They sent me pictures of them getting married just a few days later! Congrats on a beautiful wedding! Check out the full adventure below!

Lost Wedding Ring Found After 17 Months in the River near Richfield, Utah

Back in the summer, I was tagged in a post of Facebook regarding a lost titanium wedding ring that was lost while tubing the river in July of 2022. As he was exiting the river, he reached out to grab the only rock that was above the water line at the time and his ring slid off his finger. His wife posted the story and location of where he lost it and over the several months, many local detectorists went looking for it. I started to do a lot of research on the river trying to compare the water levels to the day he lost it to when it would be a good time to go looking for it. The location was about a 2 hour drive from my house so I wanted to make sure the conditions would be best to locate it. I reached out to a local adventure guide service in the area and they gave me the data on the river and when historically it’s at its lowest point. His wife was hopeful that one day the ring would make it back to them and so I reached out to her letting her know I was going to go search for it and the research I had done.

The day I went to search for the ring, the river was lower and moving slower than the day he lost it so I was hopeful that it could be found. Last winter season produced the largest runoff Utah had ever seen on record so my theory was that the ring would be near the rock he reached out for unless the runoff took it down stream. The area was under a small bridge so I knew there would be a lot trash in the area. When I got to the river, I focused in and around two large rocks that I had determined would have been sticking out of the river when he was there. I removed several pieces of trash and then got a faint signal under a large rock just two feet from the rock in question. I couldn’t reach under it so I had to move the 2.5 foot rock out of the way. Sure enough it was a ring!!! The post said there was an engraving inside the ring that read « Julie’s Dave ». The ring was black from being in the river but it matched the description. Not knowing if it was the correct ring, I search for a little longer in the area but nothing else was found. When I got home, I cleaned the ring and to my astonishment, I saw the engraving and confirmed it was the lost ring that had been in the river for 17 months. I reached out to her and later that week met up and returned the ring! What an amazing experience! Check out the video below to see how it all came together!

Lost Titanium Wedding Ring in St. George, Utah- Found

After a windy weekend in St. George, Utah, I received two calls regarding lost rings. I made plans to make the 300 mile road trip down to St. George, Utah the following weekend to help look for them. While I was getting ready to leave, I saw a post about a 3rd lost ring at a local lake in the area. Since I was already headed down, I figured I would proactively reach out and see if I could help. Sad part about all three missing rings is that the people did things right. Each person had taken their rings off to get into the lake and while in the water, the winds came up and blew either their tent or bag where they had placed their rings. This was the case with this one as he had put his titanium ring in the tent and went to go play with his kid. The wind picked up the tent and in the process the ring fell out into the sand.

After getting permission from the local authorities, I matched up his picture with the landscape and started to grid off the area. I covered the entire area but didn’t find the ring. I started to think that maybe it didn’t fall out with the wind but that it fell out after they were leaving the lake. I started to grid off the beach area from the parking lot to where they had put down the tent. Sure enough, the lost titanium ring was about 50 feet back towards the parking lot in the opposite direction of where the wind blew the tent. Over the years of returning lost items, I have learned to apply alternative scenarios from where people tell me and it’s amazing how often the ring or item is not where they thought they lost it. I could have easily chalked this one up to someone picking the ring up cause it wasn’t in the normal search area described but glad I was able think outside the box and that lead to another great recovery! We met up later that afternoon and he was so happy to see his wedding ring! Check out the video below!

Lost Diamond Gold Ring in South Jordan, Utah- Found

Received a call from a lady regarding a lost diamond gold ring that had been given to her by a late uncle. She received this ring when she lived in Iran and had it on her finger for several years. While playing volleyball in the park with friends and family, she went to hit the ball and the ring popped right off her finger. They spent the next several hours looking for it and even went out and got a metal detector but were unable to locate the ring. That is when she found me online and we made plans that night to go search for it before the park services started to mow the lawn.

With just an hour of light left in the day, I met her at the location and started to grid off the area. Parks are historically very trashy areas so there were a lot of low tone signals. Small gold rings will give off a signal very similar to a pull tab or small piece of aluminum. As the sun was setting, I got a good hit on the detector and sure enough it was the ring! It had flown 20+ feet from the area of where they were playing volleyball. Her reaction when I brought it to her is the whole reason I love doing this! Check out the video below!

Lost Wedding Ring at Utah Lake- Found

Monday I got a call from Taija who had just lost her wedding ring over the weekend at Utah lake. The weather was very nice over the weekend but we had a big storm roll through and it had dropped the temperature into the 40’s on Monday. I headed down to meet Taija at the marina in Lindon and walk the areas where she had been. She took off her ring before getting out of the car and then proceeded down to the water’s edge. After taking a dip in the lake, she returned to the car and that is when she realized the ring was missing. I started to search where she had left her clothes on the bank of the lake. Lot’s of lead sinkers and trash everywhere!!! To make the search even more difficult, the lake shore was nothing but rocks with plenty of cracks where the ring could hide. After about 2 hours, I circled back to where she had took her shorts off and noticed a firepit that had been covered up with some rocks. Since I was unable to get down into the cracks, I started moving rocks around and that’s when I got the signal. I looked down and laying in the firepit was the beautiful white gold ring with several diamonds. Taija had told me that they were celebrating their 10 year anniversary this summer and was planning on upgrading the ring. With the cold wind and rain, she had headed back to her house so after getting back to the car, I gave her a call to tell her the good news!  Needless to say she was very happy to get the phone call and I was very happy to be out of the cold wind. I drove straight to her house where I was able to return the ring! All in all it was a tough search but happy I was able to find it! Congrats on your 10 year anniversary Taija!
