Samantha along with her husband, daughter and two dogs were visiting Honeymoon Island State Park from the Gainesville area about three hours away where they had recently moved from New Hampshire. In the process of throwing a rock in the water for her dogs to chase after, both Samantha’s engagement ring and wedding band flew off of her finger into the water. Fortunately she was able to recover the engagement ring just a few feet ahead at the edge of the water but the white gold with diamonds band flew further out into almost knee deep water. After a frantic search in near dark conditions with the park ready to close, Samantha and her family could not find the band. Another person on the beach at the time suggested to Samantha to reach out to me and after finding me through the Ring Finders page she messaged me on the way home that night. She provided enough information about the location and tide time of loss that I was able to begin the search the next morning.  I sent Samantha photos of the beach area and she marked them up to help better define the location of loss so I began grid searching the water. I searched for a few hours in the morning and several in the afternoon until a storm ran me off but I found only a couple of pairs of sunglasses, a toy plane, fishing weights, several coins and some beach trash. Even though I knew I was looking for white gold, I dig every target that is just several inches deep. I messaged Samantha and told her I would be back out searching the next morning with Jim, a fellow detectorist who I had met on the beach during a previous search and recovery. After a 45 minute search the next morning with me on one end of the search area and Jim on the other, I hit a target that gave me a promising 5-6 on the VDI of my Equinox 600 in about knee deep water and after a couple of scoops I had recovered Samantha’s wedding band! I messaged Samantha with several photos and told her that her prayers had been answered. Samantha and her family made it back to Honeymoon Island a few days later and I met them there to return the wedding band. Samantha, thank you for contacting me and trusting me to recover your ring. And thank you for the beautiful reward! Good luck to you with your business ventures (www.woofensniffer.com) in Florida.

Kelly messaged me through my Dunedin Ring Finder page after someone referred me from a local discussion page called Palm Harbor Happenings. Earlier that day she and her husband were throwing a football at the beach  when Kelly’s large gold ring given to her by her grandmother flew off her hand into the water. I met Kelly on site the following day at approximately the same tide time and she showed me the area fairly close to a rock breakwater where she thought the ring may have landed. At the time the water was knee to waist deep. I grid searched for a couple of hours while Kelly looked on but only recovered a few coins and some beach trash. Kelly had to go to work so I searched an hour longer but  no luck. I left the beach and returned at low tide later in the day but only recovered a few more coins, fishing weights and a costume jewelry earring. After a long day of searching including around the breakwater, I told Kelly I would return the next day and retrace my steps in the area she had initially pointed out. Late the next afternoon I had been searching for about an hour when I got a steady 9 VDI on the Equinox 600. After a couple of scoops I pulled Kelly’s beautiful ring out of the water! She was ecstatic (followed by seven exclamation points)! I returned this beautiful ring to her the next morning. Kelly, thank you for contacting me and trusting the Dunedin Ring Finder to return your grandmother’s ring to you. And thank you for the generous reward!

Dana posted on several local Facebook discussion pages that she had lost her ring in her yard and needed to borrow a metal detector. Thankfully she was referred to me from a member of one of the groups who gave me another referral a few months ago. Dana contacted me and said that she was certain that she had lost her silver, blue diamond ring while mowing the grass and pulling weeds. As it turns out, Dana lived only about two minutes from me! We set up a search that same day and I began by checking some piles of pulled weeds in the front yard. I then moved to the back yard and began the gridding process using Dana’s mowing pattern. No luck in the back so we proceeded to the side yard and then to the front where she finished mowing. Dana was beginning to look discouraged because she was certain that the ring had slipped off her finger in the back yard and there was only a small patch of thick grass in the front yard left to be searched. Dana had followed me the entire time but went into the house for a moment to speak to her husband Will. Checking the last area, I hit that solid 28-29 I was looking for on my Nox 600 and immediately saw the ring. At the same time, Dana and Will came out of the house and I told them that I had found something they needed to see. You Ring Finders know what happens from that point on! Dana and Will, thank you for contacting me and trusting me to find Dana’s ring. And thank you for the generous reward!

I received a call from Sandra who had found me through a Google search. She and her husband Charlie have a home that backs up to a small lake and in mid February, Charlie was throwing some feed out for the lake birds when his class ring flew from his finger into the edge of the lake. This class ring was a replacement for one he had lost years before. Charlie had searched the area with a rake, pulling through through the muck of the shallow water and then with a metal detector purchased from Harbor Freight as the lake water receded over the next several months due to relatively dry conditions. When I arrived at the location, Charlie showed me where the lake level had dropped about eight feet or so and where he thought his ring had landed was now on dry land as opposed to in several feet of water. I showed Charlie the equipment I was using and then scanned my class ring to give him an idea about the target ID reading I was looking for. After gridding for only about five minutes, I hit the target number I was looking for, dug a few inches down with my knife and recovered Charlie’s ring! I think he was really surprised that it had been that easy to locate but the recovery was made much easier by the fact that it was a very small search area in a secured location and not under water.

Charlie and Sandra, thank you for trusting me to recover Charlie’s class ring and thank you for your generous reward! God bless!

I was scheduled to conduct a search for a lost wedding band on Honeymoon Island last Monday afternoon when I received a call from Derek and Rhiannon Sunday evening. Rhiannon’s beautiful wedding ring had slipped off her finger while the family was enjoying some beach time earlier in the day. Even though Rhiannon realized the loss almost immediately, the family was unable to locate the ring in the sand. As the family was leaving Honeymoon Island, they reported the lost ring to a park ranger and the ranger passed along my contact information.

Because Sunday was the end of a busy Easter holiday weekend, we set up a search time for early Monday morning, hopefully before the hobby detectorists began searching the beach. Derek and Rhiannon took me to the location where they were sitting (thankfully they had marked it well and it was beyond the high tide line) and after only about a 3 minute search, I uncovered the ring, pulled it from the sand, held it up to Rhiannon, and the tears of joy began to flow. I know you Ringfinders know this already, but there can not be anything more satisfying than returning a precious item to someone when they thought they might never see it again. I love my job!

Thank you to the rangers at Honeymoon Island for connecting me to Derek and Rhiannon and thanks for the generous reward!

The Right Place at the Right Time!

I was detecting a section of Honeymoon Island called Dog Beach nearing sunset when I received a call from my sister with information about my father who was recovering from COVID. As I was speaking to her, two women approached me and asked if I helped people find lost rings. I was wearing my Dunedin Ring Finder cap at the time so I pointed to it and said “As a matter of fact…”. This is the second time in the last six months that I was detecting on my own when I came upon someone who needed my services.

As it turns out, a family of four (last name Beebe) with their two dogs were on the beach with a professional photographer at sunset when the son dropped his great grandfather’s gold and black onyx ring in the sand. Despite the fact that they were certain the ring was in an area of about 6’x6’, the Beebe family was unable to locate the ring after a frantic search. After about a two minute search, I got a 21 signal on my Equinox 600, then pin pointed the target and pulled the ring from the sand. What a joyous reunion! The photographer was pleased because she was working to take some great shots of the family in various locations as the sun was setting and needed to get back to work quickly. I took a picture of the ring at recovery, the photographer took a picture of me with the smiling son and the ring and she promised to send the recovery photo to me after I gave her my Ring Finder card. The photographer did not have any of her business cards with her and unfortunately I didn’t get her full name.

As of the date of this post, I have not received my promised photo and I have not been able to identify the photographer. If I “recover” this photo, I will update this post for the smile picture!

Christmas in January! Dione contacted me on the night before Christmas Eve day with a story of a lost wedding ring. On the day before, she was driving on the entrance road to a strip shopping center while running some errands  when another car turned in front of her almost hitting her. After a brief confrontation with the other driver, Dione headed to her bank and then drove home. After arriving home, Dione realized that her wedding ring was missing so she and her husband Timm immediately retraced her steps including searching on the shopping center entrance road which had a grassy median. Dione had become convinced that her loosely fitting ring had flown off when she was having an animated discussion with the other driver. She  told me that she had also thoroughly searched her home to no avail. Despite their best efforts, Dione and Timm had failed to find the wedding ring.
I met Timm the next morning at the shopping center search location and became somewhat discouraged to see that there was very little grass on the roadside or in the median for the ring to hide and that this was a high traffic area. I searched for over an hour anyway under Timm’s direction and we quickly determined that either the ring was not lost here or was picked up by someone. I started talking to Timm about reaching out to the Sheriff’s Department as well as searching at home again when Timm said that it was possible that the ring could have fallen off Dione’s finger in their yard. I told Timm that I could search his yard as well so we traveled 15 minutes to the home. I was unable to recover the ring after a 30 minute search.
Before I left, I told Timm and Dione to continue their search in the home but try to enjoy their Christmas because they had several grandchildren visiting and we would reconnect after the holiday.
Later that evening I received a text from Timm with great news. Granddaughter Mila knew where the ring was because she had taken it from her grandmother’s makeup room. The best Christmas gift ever!

I received a call from Russ who found my contact information on the Ring Finders website. Russ’s girlfriend had lost a diamond earring in the yard of their home. She was certain that the earring fell from her ear as she was walking around outside after dark talking on her cell phone. They searched for a while with a flashlight but could not locate the earring.

I went to the home the following day and after confirming with Russ that the house and all vehicles had been thoroughly searched, I began grid sweeping the thick St Augustine grass in the area where Russ’s girlfriend thought it most likely she had dropped the earring. I made several adjustments to my Equinox as apparently this area contained a lot of junk from the fairly recent construction of the house. After about an hour of search, we expanded the search area into the second most likely area of the yard. Two hours and several additional search areas later, I had failed to recover the earring, just finding several pieces of scrap. I asked Russ to search his home and vehicles again as well as talk to his girlfriend about other possible locations to search. Russ also said that he would have his girlfriend who was not home at the time provide me with a photo of the other earring in the pair when I returned to search again in the next day or so.

Several hours after I returned home, I received a text from Russ, and you guessed it, he had found the lost earring in his home under a ledge in the shower! (For reasons that I can not include in this post I was not able to obtain a photo of the earring). Russ said that even though I didn’t find it, I brought him good luck.

Russ, thank you for allowing me to assist you in your search for your girlfriend’s earring and for rewarding me for my efforts.
