Cacapon river Tag | The Ring Finders

The Cacapon River is one of West Virginia’s highest quality rivers. Protected by woodlands and peaceful fields, its waters are not polluted by industry, development or mining.

I received a call from a customer who was kayaking with his son on the Cacapon River. While going through an area with some mild rapids, the kayak flipped over, and everything went overboard. Obviously focusing on his son to ensure everyone was safe, he then realized his ring had come off his finger. He searched in the current for several hours but was unable to locate the ring.

We agreed on a date/time and after an hour-and-a-half excursion, I arrived deep back in the woods of WV. At first I was slightly concerned about the rapids, but after a little bit of foot dancing in the river to ensure I didn’t get washed away, I was able to get into the area I wanted to search. I had to hold the detector with both hands due to the current but was able to get a high 80s on my XP Deus II. I set the detector on a boulder to my left, put my snorkel mask on, then dunked my face into the cold water rapids. Like a gleaming beacon, I saw the  14 karat yellow gold ring, staring up at me through the water, in between two large rocks.
