Key Found In Barre VT

I got a call from a woman in Barre who lost her Toyota Prius key last Fall. She was still able to drive her car but unable to lock it for the last 8 months. She said it would cost about $200 to replace it. The area where she thought it would most likely be was next to her parking spot in a very congested neighborhood. It was a mix of gravel, flowers and grass, and about 200 years of heavy human activity…..lots of miscellaneous, overlapping scrap metal signals!! After about 2 hours of intense digging, it was starting to get dark and I was about to head home, very disappointed. But, I checked a weak, spotty signal, dug down about 2 inches and there it was! It was right where she thought it should be. A tricky but satisfying hunt!

Ring Found In The Snow At Stowe Mountain Ski Area, Stowe, Vermont

March 14, 2016

I got a call from a lady who lost her wedding ring while skiing at Stowe Mountain Ski area yesterday. She was extremely upset. Her ring’s triple bands represented her dog, her spouse and herself all as one. The employees at the ski area saw how upset she was and tried all evening to find it for her. I told her I could go look right away. She was actually calling from back home in Boston. I asked her if I found it, would she like me to mail it to her? She said « I will jump in my car and drive right back there! »

She gave me very good descriptions of the areas where she thought she may have lost it. The people at the ski area were extremely helpful and friendly, and gave me permission to search. So after about a half hour search, and hundreds of junk metal signals, I got a good signal under the chair lift. Digging down a few inches in the snow, there it was, sparkling bright and in perfect condition. I was sooooo happy for her! She thought she would never see it again. I immediately sent her a picture message. The people around Guest Services cheered.

After she got my message, she called me, hardly able to talk through the tears. She wanted to drive right up from Boston. I met her part way there, gave it to her and got my hugs!

Well, it’s the end of my first year with The Ring Finders. I am so glad that I found and joined this organization, and glad that Chris Turner put it all together. I had a great year, met some really nice, warmhearted people. There was only one uncompleted mission, which I hope to go back to next Spring, with some upgraded equipment.

I also want to thank all the people who gave me reward money, that was very generous, but unnecessary! Thanks to that, I was able to put some gas in the tank, upgrade my equipment and donate a bunch to one of my favorite charities, the Central Vermont Humane Society. That group of professionals and volunteers do an incredible job with reviving cats and dogs and finding good homes for them. All 3 of our dogs came from there!

Thank you and Happy New Year to all

Lost Jewelry Found near Morrisville Vermont

I got a call yesterday around lunchtime from a lady who had lost her pendant while mowing her large lawn with a riding mower. She got into a tangle with her apple tree and the chain holding her pendant got damaged without her knowing it. After she had finished and gone indoors she realized her pendant was missing.
This pendant was very meaningful to her because it was given to her by someone who was a special part of her life years ago. He had died unexpectedly at the young age of 40.
She searched hard for it and was about to go buy or rent a metal detector when she discovered my ring finding service. She lived about 40 miles away, so I left immediately. My cousin’s husband, a longtime metal detectorist, was available and joined me for the search. I was hoping to find it right away under the apple tree, but knew it could be anywhere on the property. We searched the entire afternoon with no luck.
This morning I got up early to go back and search again. The forecast was for rain all day, so I packed the rubber boots and rain gear. I always bring 2 detectors in case one is better than the other for the conditions. Knowing it could be a long day, I offered to let her use the second one. She also was very interested in the machines because she used to be a mineral and gemstone hunter.
I searched the back lawn and she searched the front and side lawns. After an hour or 2 I heard a scream and saw her running around the house towards me! She had found it where she had parked the car on the front lawn and had washed it after mowing the grass. She was shaking from the excitement! I was very happy for her. Happy endings are great!

Lost Wedding Ring Found in the Grass in Burlington VT

Another happy reunion of a beautiful wedding band and a very sentimental owner!

Today at work I got a call from a woman who had lost her wedding band. One of her co-workers referred her to me. So, after work I hurried home, let my dogs out, and hit the Interstate for Burlington. She had lost it in a very busy area, so I wanted to get there quick before the wrong person found it. I went prepared to do an after dark search if necessary,

She told me that she had lost it either during an exercise class on a lawn behind her office or afterwards when she went for a short run in the streets nearby. I was sure hoping it was in that lawn, but was prepared to go search the streets as well.

She said her insurance would replace it, but she really wanted to find her own original ring instead of getting a replacement ring. She and a bunch of friends and co-workers looked real hard for it. She even got the services of a police dog who was trained to find objects that had been handled by someone. I felt bad for the dog and owner that they hadn’t found it.

After a very short search (thanks to her good directions) I found it on the lawn, pushed deep into the thick grass where no-one would have been able to find it without a metal detector. She was so happy! I felt real good, too.

Lost Class Ring Found In Montpelier Vermont

About 2 years ago I was trying out a new metal detector in a local park. I got a nice surprise when a beautiful gold class ring came up from about 6″ down in the clay. I cleaned it up and discovered a name inscribed on the inside. It was a 1977 ring from a high school probably 200 miles from here. It was a little tricky finding the owner because her maiden name was on it. After some research I found who was probably her on Facebook. My message must have gone into her « other » box because we aren’t « friends ». No response. About a year later I messaged her again. Another year went by and I finally got a reply from her. She must have given up on ever seeing the ring again, so she was skeptical that I was a legitimate person and thought maybe it was a scam. We exchanged descriptions of the ring and exactly where I found it, she then knew it was hers. She had been going to a local college around 1978, and was visiting the local park when she lost it.

I mailed her the ring. After 37 years of being lost in the dirt, a surprised and happy lady has her ring back! It looks like it still fits her nicely!

Another happy day seeing an owner reunited with her ring today!

My neighbor and longtime friend referred me to a woman who was urgently needing to find a ring she had lost while gardening, and didn’t know how to go about finding it. The ring was an older, monogrammed gold ring. It was given to her by her Great Aunt, so it had lots of sentimental meaning to her. My neighbor told her “I know just the person who can find it for you, he has metal detectors and belongs to The Ring Finders”. She called me and I went to her house shortly after to do the search.

After a quick search, it was back on her finger! She was very happy to get it back, especially because the area around her home has many tenants and she didn’t want it going into the wrong hands.

I’m also excited, because she has invited me to come back someday and detect around her home, which is over 100 years old. I’m sure that we will find many interesting things that will bring the history of the house alive.

Another Lost Wedding Ring Found in Snow at Killington VT Ski Area

  • from Barre (Vermont, United States)
Contact:

Had another wedding ring mission in Killington Vt this morning. Met some very nice people, too. We were successful thanks to his great location marking and memory, and it took only about 15 minutes! Got spoiled by the Killington ski area when they brought us up the mountain on a company snowmobile!

Last weekend he had been skiing in the woods, next to the ski trails, and took a minor fall. But, when he shook his snow-filled gloves out, the ring went flying into the snow. He and friends searched hard for about 6 hours, shoveling and sifting the snow, and even buying a metal detector from a local store. Not knowing if the detector was working properly, he gave me a call to help look. I was excited all week, looking forward to the challenge of the hunt!

So, he took today off from work and drove back up from New York City and met me there this morning. After getting all the permissions needed from the ski area, which was a lot of work for him, we went up and started the search. Before we started digging, I ran my detector on top of the snow all around the location he thought it should be at. I was about to give up and start digging in the 3 feet deep snow, when the glorious sound of metal being detected rang out! It was his cherished wedding band that he was never going to give up on.  (by coincidence, it was the 2nd platinum men’s wedding ring that I’ve found in Killington, in less than a month!) It was only about 5 or 6 inches deep and only about 3 feet from where they had searched so hard the weekend before.

We came prepared for an all day hunt, he even brought sandwiches for us. I figured it could easily turn into a full day or maybe even 2 or 3 return trips to the area after the snow had melted. It was very nice to see the ring reunited with a happy owner.

Lost Wedding Ring, Found In Huge Snowpile In Killington VT

  • from Barre (Vermont, United States)
Contact:

Hi Folks,

Last night I received an email from someone who lost his platinum wedding band. He and his wife and several friends were up from New Jersey to enjoy a snowy wonderland at Killington, Vt. They had rented a chalet near the ski area for their vacation, but were returning home the very next day… explaining why the word « emergency! » was in his message. Earlier that day they were having some fun on top of a huge snowpile when he realized he had lost his ring. They tried hard to find it and had no luck. He was looking into renting a metal detector when he saw my listing on TheRingFinders website. So, I called him late that evening and said I could be there at 8:00 the next day.

This morning I met them there. They were extremely nice young people, and volunteered to help look. I brought 2 detectors and some shovels, they searched around the edges of the pile with one detector and I searched on top with the other. I figured if we couldn’t find it this way, that we would have to start shoveling and checking each layer with the detectors. Within only about 15 minutes my detector went off. There it was! The beautiful ring had been stepped on and pushed deep into the snow. We all were very happy to see it! Wish all hunts were this easy!!

I was prepared to search all day, but luck was on our side this time. If we hadn’t found it today, things would have gotten much more complicated if we had to wait until Spring. They would have been back home in NJ, and I would have had to get permission from the landlord, go back to Killington and pray that it was still there so I could recover it and mail it down to them.

Hi. I recently joined The Ring Finders service and am very excited to start helping people find their lost jewelry. I can also help you look for just about anything important or valuable with metal in it, such as keys, property markers, water supply shutoffs, tools, etc. Don’t forget, the sooner we start looking, the higher the chance for our success! Mother Nature and possibly someone else could get to it before we do. On the other hand, I have found rings that were lost decades ago, too. They were down in the ground several inches, packed with dirt, but cleaned up beautifully. So, don’t give up!

Please see my listing in the Vermont section of the above directory, for more information and to contact me.

Thank you,  Mike
