Found Lost Ring on his Anniversary!!

Last night I got a call from a guy who had lost his custom made white gold wedding ring. It’s a beautiful ring with trees and mountains on it. He had been cutting branches and trees that had fallen into his road. He had set the chainsaw down and was brushing the snow and sawdust from his pants when his ring went flying off. It was quite cold out, so naturally his fingers had shrunk a little .

He searched the area for a long time, but was unable to find it because the snow on the ground was probably hiding it, or it had ended up in the muddy ditch with running water in it. He later found my name on The Ring Finders website and called me instead of trying a rental, which might not even work right.

So, today after work I went over to help. I got a signal right off, but thought it might be from the large metal culvert under the road. I checked it with the pinpointer and there it was, barely covered with snow. We were happy to find it this evening because there’s a huge snowstorm predicted for tonight and tomorrow. We definitely didn’t want a snowplow to drag it down the road!

The best part of this story was that tonight is his wedding ANNIVERSARY !!

Expensive Car Keys Found in the Snow in Vermont

Got a phone call from a gentleman who lost his car keys in the snow. He said that because it’s a leased car, the dealership said when the lease was up, he would have to turn in the car with 2 keys. They said it would cost him $250 for a replacement key! (Actually, some manufacturers are even higher….disgusting).

So, after work I went right over to his town. He and his wife showed me the area to search, and I got started. Unfortunately, their snowplow guy had come, so I figured this could be a long search! I scanned all the edges and the 2 big piles, and got no signals. So, out comes the shovel, to dig away at the piles. Still didn’t find it. I decided to search beyond the piles in the fresh powder, and soon got a good signal! There it was, about a foot down! I don’t really know how it got to that spot, must’ve grown wings!

I went inside and gave it to them. A very nice couple, and they just happened to know my father and mother in law. I was so glad to help them out.

Lost Keys Found by The Ring Finders Vermont

Got a call today from a guy who had lost his car keys. Very slippery conditions had caused he and his Volvo to go off the road and into a very deep ditch. Somehow the key became lost, probably when trying to climb up out of the car. The wrecker came and towed the car away. He searched all his pockets and inside the car. He even tried a magnet and renting a metal detector.

He and many others I have found keys for, all say the same thing, to replace their keys was going to cost over $300, some have even told me much higher amounts!

I was available today, but he was driving a UPS route. He told me where the accident had happened and I went over to do the search. I brought a pick axe and jugs of hot water because it was only 20 degrees out and it had been lost for 5 or 6 days and nights of extremely cold weather. I expected the key to be frozen into hard mud or ice.

I got a few junk signals and then a good signal came from the little brook which had an inch of ice on it. After chopping through the ice, I was finally able to get the key out. The key had been under water for so long, I took it apart, cleaned and dried it. I pray it still worked after I returned to him.

Wedding Ring Found By The Ring Finders in Vermont

Went on a cold ring search today, brrrrr only 18 degrees!

Got a call yesterday from a guy who was visiting Vermont on a Thanksgiving get together. He, his wife, their 3 little ones, some brothers, uncles and aunts had rented a lodge near a local skiing mountain. He and his brothers went outdoors to get some air and burn off some calories. They had a snowball fight and threw knives at some logs. After awhile he realized his wedding ring was missing. It was loose fitting to begin with and the cold snow made his fingers shrink a little.

He had to go back to their home today, but he gave me the address to go to. His brother was their searching with a metal detector that they just bought. He was learning it real well, but it was an extremely difficult yard to detect. There was scrap metal all through the soil, and crusty snow and ice to contend with as well. There was also a load of EMI in the air (glad I took 2 detectors with me!). After a couple hours, his brother had to leave. About another 3/4 hour later, I got a clean signal. I moved some ice and there it was, partially pressed into the dirt below. Wow, what a blessing!!!

I called his brother, he hadn’t driven too far, and brought him the ring so he could deliver it to his brother.

Found Wedding Ring in Central Vermont

Got a call from a woman who had lost her wedding ring earlier today. She had been outside pulling weeds and moving brush at her home. After taking a load through the mud and out to the woods, she realized her ring was missing. She figured it had to be where she was throwing the weeds, so she spent several hours on her hands and knees looking for it there.

Her ring is beautiful, a custom made ring with mountains on it. Unfortunately, it fit a little loose, so she had always tried to be careful not to lose it. Even so, it had been lost once before doing the same thing!

I went to her home right away. She showed me the area where she thought it would be and I found it in about 15 seconds! It was in the only spot she hadn’t looked. Easy to tell that because the rest of the area was trampled by her knees! I was very happy to be able to help her out!

Found Wedding Ring at a Vermont Beach

I got a voicemail and text this morning from a guy who had lost his wedding ring yesterday at a local public beach. He had started into the water when he realized he was still wearing it. When swimming he normally takes it off so it won’t get lost. So he went back and put it in a shoe with his cell phone. He was trying to do the right thing!

After swimming he got his phone out and the ring was missing. So, he and his entire family searched through the sand for a long time, with no luck. They went back again today, used a rake and still no luck. He was feeling very discouraged, and figured it was gone forever, even wondering if someone had stolen it.

So, we met as soon as I could get there, his kids helped pointing out the correct area to search, and I got started. The sand was absolutely packed with signals. People have used it heavily for a hundred years, and had lots of campfires on it. Every swing had many signals, so I had to go super slow and really listen for good tones. Finally I got a signal that sounded good and had the right numbers for platinum.

There it was, 2 or 3 inches down, someone must’ve stepped on it with their heel. It felt so good to hand him his ring. He was out of the doghouse!! I figure that someone must have accidentally tripped over his shoe causing it to fall out.

Now, he can enjoy the rest of his visit with his dad, and their vacation a little better!

How To Find a Ring Lost In Snow

Got a voicemail from a guy who had recently lost his wedding ring. He had triple bad luck. He not only lost a beautiful custom made 18k ring, but he and his wife had only been married for one week, and he lost it the day they were leaving for a little honeymoon trip! Oh my, what a crazy thing!

He searched in the snow and was unable to find it. So we met tonight in the blowing snow at the area he had fallen in the snow. I got my detector out, fine tuned it and took a swing across the snow. Literally on that first swing, only one second into the search, I got a strong signal with the right number for gold. I scooped some snow out and pushed the pinpointer in and found it, about 10” into the snow. We were stunned!! It was a new recovery record for me!! You just never know, many of my recoveries have taken 10-20 hours.

He was so happy! I hope hey have much better luck in the future and a very long life together.

Wedding Ring Found in Ice in Central Vermont

Just got a call from a lady who’s husband has lost his ring. He was hand digging a French drain around the foundation to try to keep most of the water from getting into their basement. He lost it yesterday and they haven’t been able to find it.

I went right over and he showed me the search area. I got started and as expected there were tons of signals around their older house. But, miraculously, in only about 10 minutes, I got a solid ring tone, dug into the frozen ice and slush about 2 inches, and there it was in perfect condition!

They were both so happy and declared that they were “married again”!!

It’s back where it belongs, right on his finger, and he got right back to diggin!

Class Ring Found in Vermont

A very bittersweet ring return.

Last Sunday, on my way home from a ring search for a client, I decided to detect the woods for an hour in hopes of finding something old and interesting. I also get exercise, relaxation and keep in practice with all my detectors this way.

Right at dark, I got a faint signal, and almost ignored it. It gave erratic numbers, and was hard to pinpoint. I was digging about 9” down, expecting to find a corroded piece of scrap metal, when my finger felt something slippery smooth. My heart skipped a couple beats, knowing what that felt like. I got my cell phone out and shined the light down into the hole. Sure enough, there was a gold ring down there. I pulled it out, cleaned it up a bit and could see it was a 1968 men’s class ring from a nearby high school.

Monday, I emailed the administration office and gave them the initials that were on the inside. Thursday they emailed back with his name and said his home was in the next town over.

So I found his number online and gave a call. The lady who answered was his mother and she had bad news for me. Her son had passed away in June from a serious health issue at only 72 years old. She also told me that her husband of 73 years had died in March. I don’t know how her heart could take it. She said it’s been a really tough year.

My wife and I went to her house today, she invited us in, and we had a really nice visit.

I’m hoping that in some small way, this ring might help her. My wife says everything happens for a reason.

Another Ring Found in Vermont Leaves

Got a call today from someone who’s name sounded very familiar. Then when she described her ring I immediately remembered finding that ring for her many years ago!

This ring was given to her by her mother when she was in graded school, so it really hurt not having it on her finger for the past week.

She nows has a 3-1/2 year old and was having a great time playing in a huge leaf pile with her. A little while later she realized the ring was missing.

So I went right over, she brought me to the leaf pile and I got started. Just minutes later I got a great signal with the right numbers. There it was, in the grass deep under the pile. She was so happy!

What a great weekend, reuniting 2 people with very sentimental rings!
