Lost Engagement Ring Recovered, Hamilton, Ohio

  • from Cincinnati (Ohio, United States)

I received a text message early one Sunday morning explaining how a young lady had lost her engagement ring after attending an outdoor concert and festival and asking if I would help in the search. When we spoke, the young lady told me she and a group of friends had looked for her ring until early in the morning using their cell phone flash lights but that they had been unable to find it.

I had a previous commitment early on Sunday and promised to call her as soon as I was free in the afternoon. When I called she told me that she and a friend with a metal detector had already searched for over six hours and been unable to find her ring. She was concerned that perhaps another festival attendee might have found her ring the night before and that it might no longer even be there.

I offered to search anyway if she thought it worthwhile and she said yes it was. We met at about 3:00 pm and she recounted her evening while walking me along the path she remembered taking to her vehicle which was where she thought she had lost her ring. Bottom line, she was uncertain and I was thinking we could be in for a long search of easily three or more hours to cover my grid area which I estimated as roughly half a football field and which was littered and obviously traversed by many festival goers.

I started my search in a corner of my grid area that the young lady did not really think was the correct area, but she had mentioned to me during our walk through that her fiance thought it was a good possibility. I decided to enlarge my grid by an additional fifteen yards just before starting my search and not ten minutes into my search, my detector returned a very strong signal. I could not believe our luck as I saw her ring lying right there in the grass under my coil.

As I walked toward her car, giving her a thumbs up, she was speaking with her fiance on her cell phone and I don’t think she believed it at first, but then she noticed her ring on my finger and she was all smiles, crying happily and excitedly updating her fiance.

I had already had a great morning with friends and recovering this young lady’s engagement ring and seeing her smile made my day even better. I still cannot believe how fortunate we were and what a GREAT day it turned out to be for both of us!

Two recoveries on Saturday, one ring found and one medal, Cincinnati, Ohio

  • from Cincinnati (Ohio, United States)

I received an email from a gentleman who wrote that he had lost his wedding ring while cutting his grass.

« One afternoon while cutting my grass I had placed my wedding ring in my pocket.  I had a habit of putting my ring in my pocket because I had lost weight and the ring would barely stay on my finger.  After waking inside from mowing the grass, I reached into my pocket to put my ring back on and it was gone.  I knew I had it on before I started mowing and I had only taken a few steps into the house when I realized it was gone – so  it must have fallen out of my pocket while mowing my lawn.  I looked around in a few places and tried several « solutions » for finding the ring in the yard that I found on the internet, but it is a really big yard and a really small ring by comparison.  Nothing I tried worked and I had pretty much given up on the hope of finding my ring.
A couple weeks later I was watching the news and saw a story about someone losing their ring on the beach while on vacation.  They said they called ring finders and someone was able to help them find their ring.  I figured I had nothing to lose and found someone locally to see if they could help.  Doug scheduled to come search the yard with his equipment, and he was great.  He searched the yard, it only took him  about half hour to find the ring.  He was responsive, courteous and most importantly he found the ring.  I can’t thank him enough for helping me get the ring back! »

That afternoon ring recovery went quickly, which turned out to be a really good thing because as I was traveling to the gentleman’s home on Saturday afternoon, I received a call from a woman in a nearby city who said she had lost a religious medal while cutting her grass. She too had been searching for days with no luck and she sadly described to me that she had received the pewter medal on her 19th birthday and that it was a cherished possession because it had been blessed by the Pope. Because of the earlier quick recovery, I was able to travel to her home that Saturday evening to help search for her medal. After just over an hour of searching and talking and remembering the events of the day when she had lost her medal, I got a good strong signal on my detector and there it was. The medal was close to where we felt it should have been, but we were just starting to get worried we might not find it and so we felt we had been blessed when we were able to recover it.

What a great Saturday!

Successful ring recovery, a team effort!

  • from Cincinnati (Ohio, United States)
Though just about everyone we spoke with advised us the odds were not good for a recovery, we decided to try anyway. Good things began happening as we prepared to meet and search which only served to increase our confidence that we did in fact have a chance at recovering this ring. I learned so much on this adventure and I am glad that I was able to assist.
Here is the woman’s story:
« On Friday, my mom, aunt, and I went kayaking. I wasn’t really thinking about it and wore my engagement ring, which happened to be my great-grandmother’s ring. We hit an area with a pretty strong current and then there was a tree that had fallen partway across the river. My kayak hit the tree and flipped. In the process, I lost my ring. We tried to look for it but to no avail.
As I was looking for ideas on the internet, I came across the Ring Finders page and figured it was worth a try otherwise we’d always wonder. Doug graciously agreed to come help us out! We also had my aunt come back with her scuba gear. We went right to the spot where I’d fallen and looked for just under an hour. Doug was picking up some activity with his detector and my aunt had his smaller spot finder wand (a Garrett Pro Pointer II) and she was miraculously able to find my ring! I really couldn’t believe it with how strong the current was in the area! My family and I are so relieved to have it back, especially with the connection to my great-grandmother. We could not be more grateful to Doug for coming out and helping us find it! It was truly amazing! »

Lost Ring Found At Beach, Cincinnati, Ohio

  • from Cincinnati (Ohio, United States)

I was at a local beach recently when I noticed a woman who looked distressed. I thought she might be crying and as it turned out, she was upset because she had just lost her wedding ring. I happened to have one of my detectors with me and within a few minutes I was able to find and return her ring.

Here is her story:

« My husband, our 3 children and I were at Stonelick Lake State Park swimming at the beach. While we were swimming, I looked down and realized my wedding ring wasn’t on my finger. It had fallen off my finger into the water. I started crying. There was a man on the beach by the name of Doug who came over to where I was at and asked me if I was okay. I told him my wedding ring fell off in the water while I was swimming. He asked me where I was when I noticed my ring was gone and he used his metal detector and a scooper and found my ring in the water. I am so glad that Doug was there or else my ring would be gone forever. I was just so lucky he was there. It was a miracle for me. Doug, thank you and I appreciate it so much for finding my ring for me.

Thank you,

Lost ring found, Northern Kentucky!

  • from Cincinnati (Ohio, United States)

Every teacher looks forward to the beginning of summer break.  I was at school for my last day of teacher Professional Development before officially kicking-off summer!  After lunch, some teachers were hitting softballs in our school’s front baseball field. When it was my turn to bat, I put my wedding band and engagement ring into my back pocket.  After batting, I went to the outfield to shag balls.  Jumping and diving for pop flies, I ran all around the outfield.  When our game concluded, I realized my rings had slipped out of a hole in my back pocket… AHHH!!!

The teachers helped me search the baseball field.  There were literally 15 to 20 teachers, many on hands and knees, hunting for my lost rings.  One teacher found my wedding band during the first hour of the search.  The hunt quickly became a full scale community effort.  My Principal rented a metal detector.  We recruited the help of neighbor children.  My Superintendent even joined the search, and our district maintenance department volunteered another metal detector.   Our search party spent five hours combing the field on this first day, and I spent five hours the following day.  Our efforts, though, came up empty handed, and I was certain my engagement ring was forever lost.   That is, until Mr. Owens arrived!

searching

After creating a grid and systematically searching in the field, Mr. Owens found my ring in about two hours.  I am forever grateful for Mr. Owens.  Thank you for using your time and talent to help me find my lost ring.  This ring had so much sentimental value to me and now, thanks to the love of a community and Mr. Owens, it has even more!  My summer break can now begin with all rings on my finger and with my heart and mind at peace.

Thank for your finding my lost ring.

First Ring Returned, Thanksgiving Day 2014, Blanchester, OH!

  • from Cincinnati (Ohio, United States)

Detecting in the water on an unseasonably warm November day I located a young lady’s 2014 high school class ring. I went to work researching the owner and was able to contact her grandfather the day before Thanksgiving. It just so happened she was going to be visiting her grandparents for thanksgiving and we were able to arrange for her to pick up the ring on Thanksgiving day!

« Every summer I visit my grandparents for a week. This past summer we were out on the lake and I forgot to take off my rings before jumping in the water so being the smart one I am, ha ha, I tried to take my rings off and hand them to my Grammy who was still on the boat. As I was taking off my second ring my class ring fell off my finger to the bottom of the lake. We spent quite a while trying to find it with our toes but had no luck. I thought I would never see my ring again. Thank you so very much! I no longer feel like something is missing from my hand.

Thank you! Thank you ! Thank you! »
