I received a text message from Anthony inquiring whether or not I still recover lost items for people during the Covid-19 pandemic. I texted the potential client and told him that not only was I active in search and recovery operations, but that I had just recovered a lovely wedding band for someone the day before he contacted me. Anthony then went on to share what happened to his wife’s heart pendant:

“My wife lost her Tiffany Sterling Silver charm in our yard last week while we were doing yard work. I know the exact 100 foot stretch of grass that it’s located in, but the grass is so tall that I have not been able to find it. Please let me know if this is something you can help with. We are located in Columbia, Maryland.”

I responded, “I would love to recover the charm for your beloved.”

Anthony and Kristina found my information on the elite metal detectorist website called THE RING FINDERS. He learned that I provide professional metal detecting services in the Maryland, Virginia, Washington D.C., West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Delaware areas. Anthony continued to text me photos and a description of the lost piece of jewelry. He said it was a sterling silver heart charm that he gave to Kristina for their first anniversary during their college years 13 years ago! It was highly sentimental! Once again I told him that I would be happy to recover the charm for Kristina. I asked what his schedule was like for the next day and he said that they were both available. However, the weather was forecasted to be very rainy and Anthony wondered if that mattered to me. I responded back by telling him that it was not a problem at all and that I always come fully equipped with rain gear and metal detecting equipment that is fully waterproof. I explained that I work in the rain all the time. With that mentioned, Anthony was 100% on board with having me come out and start the pendant search for the couple.

The next day, I arrived at Kristina and Anthony’s Columbia, Maryland house. Yes, it was a nice drizzly day, but nothing that I couldn’t handle. I was just so charged up about helping this concerned couple that it didn’t matter to me in the least regarding the occasional downpour.

The day before the search, while Anthony and I were texting back and forth, he shared with me that he had attempted to recover the very sentimental keepsake with a cheap metal detector that he bought on Amazon a week prior. For 7 days, he unfortunately was getting too many false signals and not the object that he was hoping to find. I recommended to him that he return the detector and get his money back. So many people contact professional metal detectorists (like myself) after they have expended all of their money, time, and energy purchasing detectors that they don’t know how to use and equipment that just won’t get the job done. It literally takes hundreds of hours to learn and best acquaint oneself with a metal detector before he or she can be effective with their searches.

Anthony came out to greet me as the rain steadily fell. We walked to his backyard and he explained to me that he was completely confident that the pendant that his wife was wearing while doing yard work was not lost anywhere else but in the backyard. Kristina saw the broken chain still wrapped around her neck but the pendant was missing. She too was certain that she had never walked towards the sides or front of their property.

Anthony pointed to his shed and showed me where he and Kristina had carried bales of hay towards portions of the yard after they had laid down grass seed in various places. Once I took into account all of the spots where they walked and worked, I set up my detector in order to locate a sterling silver-type target and then got on my way with the search. I used my Equinox 800 machine along with my 15 inch coil for this particular hunt.

Slowly and carefully I started my first gridline across the lawn, about 25 feet away from the couple’s house. I swung the coil from east to west until I got within inches of the foundation. I then carefully detected the sections near the flowerbeds where the grass seed was laid down and where the hay was placed on top of the surface. I still did not pick up any potential targets that alerted me to something that might be sterling silver. All of my gridlines took no more than 25 minutes or so to complete that particular parameter on the lawn. Once I was done with the 25 by 100 foot grid area, I didn’t feel comfortable moving to another section before re-examining the grass where Kristina had been walking. So, before moving on to another part of the lawn to detect, I decided to widen the search zone a little bit closer to the property line where Anthony and Kristina’s neighbor’s yard began.

Just as I started a new grid line on the very edge of my client’s property, I got a very encouraging target signal that was definitely registering a target that could potentially be sterling silver. Indeed, it was close to the surface, if not on top of the earth, and the tone came out pretty strong through the headphones. I knelt down to see what this target was all about. Then, I took out my pinpointer to zero-in on exactly where this target was lying. All of a sudden, my eyes locked in on what the pinpointer was detecting between the blades of grass. There was a silver looking piece of jewelry laying upon the dirt below! I found it! It was the heart pendant! I was beyond thrilled at that moment as my eyes read the inscription: “Always and Forever…Tiffany and Company 925”!

Anthony was the first one to learn of the successful recovery of Kristina’s pendant. He was beyond excited with the news and equally surprised as to where I found the very sentimental item! Anthony went inside to share the happy moment with Kristina and I witnessed her beautiful excitement that was simply off the charts! Her beautiful piece of silver was finally returned to her hands! I was so happy for the couple, and the two of them were just as grateful for their decision to reach out to me and request my help! Yes, it was certainly another happy search ending!

Lost Family Heirloom Earring…Found 3 Days Later in Arnold, Maryland Parking Lot

  • from Washington (District of Columbia, United States)

Katheryne’s Sentimental Family Heirloom Earring Shining Brightly Once Again!

Katheryne’s Smile Tells the Story’s Happy Ending Perfectly as She Holds the Special Earring in Her Hands!

BRIAN RUDOLPH, LOST ITEM RECOVERY SPECIALIST (LAND, WATER, SAND, HOUSES & VEHICLES) WILL FIND YOUR LOST KEEPSAKE! CALL ASAP (301) 466-8644!

I received an email from a young lady named Katheryne who was deeply upset about a lost earring that was extremely sentimental to her, as well as for her mother. She found my information online just by complete coincidence while she was looking to see if anyone had reported finding her lost piece of jewelry. Katheryne read my profile and numerous successful item recovery stories on the highly popular and elite metal detecting service directory’s website called THE RING FINDERS. Since nothing turned up, she thought to give me a shot at finding the earring. Katheryne figured, ‘What was there to lose by trying him out?’

The recent high school graduate shared with me on the phone the background story connected with the priceless possession that disappeared and the theory of how the earring apparently got lost. Over 20 years ago, Katheryne’s aunt who lived in the Phillipines, gave a pair of 14 karat yellow gold hoop earrings to her sister (Katheryne’s mother) just prior to immigrating to the United States when they were very young. Then, sometime recently, the earrings were gifted to Katheryne which simply meant the world to her.

The young lady let her good friend Kim borrow the set of earrings when they went out with their families to celebrate their high school graduation and allowed for their parents to take some memorable posed photos at a few sites. From Katheryne’s house (where they did their hair, makeup and jewelry), the two families boarded her parent’s minivan and headed to their first photo shoot location – a grassy hill with a beautiful golf course in the background.

Once they all arrived at the first site (which was behind an apartment complex), the families got out of the vehicle, walked from the parking lot onto the grass which led between a couple of the public housing buildings and proceeded to take their celebratory memories on camera. Almost immediately afterwards, everyone returned to the van and headed for the next photo location.

Later that evening, after taking the pictures and partying the day away, Kim proceeded to take the earrings off to return them to her friend when they arrived back at Katheryne’s place. That was the moment when she noticed that one of the earrings was missing off of her ear.

Katheryne was disappointed and upset knowing how much this piece of jewelry meant to her and to the family. The house was searched from top to bottom, and so was the minivan that they were all in when they went to the various sites. Subsequently, Katheryne and Kim returned to each place where they traveled earlier, searched the parking lots, the lawns and everywhere else they stopped to celebrate the two graduate’s accomplishments. Sadly, nothing turned up. They weren’t sure where the earring may have gone missing. The only conclusion that Katheryne was able to come to was that the earring was either picked up by someone at that point or it could have ended up at any of the places they were at during the course of their day’s festivities.

Obviously the young lady’s mom was sad that the family heirloom was seemingly gone forever. Nobody really thought that there was a chance of recovering the earring at that point after looking for so long. However, Katheryne was determined to do all that she could to try to recover this priceless keepsake!

At the time of our initial phone call, I was with a client in Annandale, Virginia. After I wrapped things up at that particular location, Katheryne and I covered every detail imaginable so that I could attempt to solve this mystery and help recover the earring for the young lady. I asked her every question in the book until I got a clear picture of what we were dealing with. One such question was: “Do you have access to all of the photos that were taken along the way (from start to finish) so that we could analyze Kim’s ear to see when she was wearing the earring and when it was no longer on her ear?”

Katheryne’s Fantastic Intel Provided to Me!

Katheryne immediately sent me all of the photos that were taken of her friend and ones that were taken together at the various sites. Once I finished analyzing them, I was actually able to determine that Kim lost the earring sometime between the time she was at her friend’s house getting ready and the time that the families were just about to take photos at the first location! The reason that I was able to deduct this was because the first set of photos did not show Kim wearing both earrings at that moment! The photos clearly showed Kim wearing only one earring! Katheryne was so grateful for that bit of information because that greatly helped to isolate the possible locations as to where the earring fell from Kim’s face!

When I concluded my pre-investigative reporting, I felt comfortable that there was a chance (as slight as it might have been), that the earring could be recoverable. It dropped either at Katheryne’s house, on her front lawn, on her street pavement, in the minivan, in the parking lot at the apartment complex where they first stopped, or on the grassy area just prior to when the first set of pictures were taken.

Within a minute of us wrapping up our talk, I was in my car heading 55 miles from Annandale, Virginia all the way to Arnold, Maryland (near Annapolis) to help Katheryne with this very difficult search. Because my young client had just left town with her folks to go on their annual vacation, I did not have Katheryne around to orient me as to where the two families traveled and walked around. However, she did an extraordinary job of acquiring Google maps and diagrammed the exact place where her vehicle was parked at the first photo session site. In addition to that, she provided me with the address to her house where I could metal detect her lawn, as well as search the driveway and street. That wasn’t all! She also set up a conference call with her friend Kim, and we were all able to connect by phone so that we could go through all of the details together just to make sure that Katheryne wasn’t missing any other pertinent details that would help my search efforts.

After driving an hour and 15 minutes, I finally arrived at the first search site located at the apartment complex where the grassy hill overlooked the golf course in the back of the buildings. Before I took any of my gear out, I did a visual search around the parking lot area where the minivan had been parked several days earlier. I was able to identify the exact parking space based on the excellent intel that was provided to me by Katheryne. Unfortunately, I was unable to effectively inspect the targeted parking space and the adjacent ones to the left and right of it, because there were cars parked all along that section. However, from what I could see, there was no earring lying on the pavement. I did find a couple of coins and miscellaneous aluminum items but no jewelry was discovered.

Once the visual search was complete, I returned to the car and retrieved all of the necessary metal detecting equipment that I needed to conduct my search all around the grassy areas. I started my grid lines closest to the sidewalk which was parallel with the parking lot. I made sure that all of the real estate between the two apartment buildings was carefully searched and nothing of importance was discovered on the surface of the ground. I had tons of signals, but nothing significant enough to lead me to believe that I was hitting the lost hoop earring. Once I finished that center section that led to the backyard where the hill was located, I checked the map and photos that Katheryne sent me and I got a bearing on exactly where the families walked next. Everything matched up perfectly, which allowed me to accurately detect the ground where the young ladies walked and stood just prior to the first photo shoot.

Not only did I grid search that entire section where the families walked around and positioned themselves for the photos, but I covered the entire hill and down towards the bottom of the decline. Katheryne remembered that the two girls walked just a bit down the hill, but not far from where the photographs were taken. I wanted to make sure that there was no possibility that I missed even a foot of grassy area. By the time I completed that large area which leveled out at the bottom of the hill where the golf course fence could be seen, it was completely dark outside and I had expended three hours of search time at that point. I was 100% confident that the earring was not on the lawn anywhere between the two apartment buildings, as well as all of the ground area stretching to the back yard area that I had just finished searching. I resolved that my next step was to drive over to Katheryne’s house and metal detect her front lawn which Kim had walked across leading to the street where the minivan was parked.

Katheryne’s Keepsake Earring Still Lying Right Where it Was Several Days Earlier!

During the entire grid search, I gave updates to Katheryne and occasionally I called her to ask a question or two just to make sure that I covered every square inch of that grassy area. Once I gave my client the discouraging news report (which was that I finished searching the apartment complex property lawn and came up empty handed), I headed for the parking lot to load my gear up and then drive to Katheryne’s place. Just as I got to the foot of the parking lot pavement, I purposely decided to walk between two cars that were situated exactly where the minivan had been parked several days prior. I figured that I would look down at the pavement with my high lumen headlamp as I walked to my car, keeping my eyes focused down below just in case I had missed spotting the earring earlier when other cars were parked in those same spaces. I didn’t think much about it other than processing a quick thought that anything was possible (from personal past experiences), and that just maybe…yes, just maybe a miracle might take place. Well, to my greatest amazement, as my eyes were focused down on the black top, I locked in on a small yellow, gold colored circular object that appeared to be a piece of jewelry lying underneath the vehicle that was parked in the same space where the minivan had been parked three days prior. It was maybe resting 6 inches inside of the parking space’s white line under the car. My initial thought was that this particular find had to be too good to be true! Yet, I remained hopeful as I knelt down on the blacktop to carefully inspect what I had detected with my eyes. As I picked up the object, immediately I noticed that the item was in fact a 14 karat yellow gold hoop earring with the clasp still open! Yes, believe or not, I had found the lost family heirloom earring that belonged to Katheryne! I could not believe it myself! I actually found the earring and it had been on the parking lot pavement all that time! Nobody had discovered it throughout these past few days! None of the residents that came out to their cars or those driving into the space or adjacent spaces identified the earring, as well! Nor did Katheryne and the two families spot the priceless piece of jewelry when they returned to photo shoot location #1 looking for the missing item! It is stories like this one that perfectly illustrates why it’s so important to call a professional item recovery specialist from THE RING FINDER’S directory! We are not “your father’s metal detectorist”! Not at all! We are much better than that! We look outside the box and obsess over searching every possible place where we might find that which has been lost by our clients!

The moment that I discovered Katheryne’s lost earring, I made a call to her girlfriend Kim and let her know the amazing news! She was beyond excited at what I recovered out there in the parking lot! I told her that I wanted to surprise Katheryne with my discovery and yet I knew that we could not wait for her to return from her two week vacation. Therefore, we decided that I would drive over to Kim’s place and she would call Katheryne on her phone so we could get a video chat going. That’s when I would break the news of this marvelous recovery with Katheryne! I don’t recall if we were able to make the video conference call work successfully or not, but we definitely connected with her audibly. Katheryne could not believe what she heard when I surprised her with the good news! She was totally taken back when she learned that I had successfully recovered the 14 karat gold earring which had meant so much to her and her family! Kim also felt a huge sigh of relief because she felt so bad that the earring fell out of her ear during their time of celebration. It meant so much to me to hear both of them express their extreme gratitude regarding what I was able to accomplish for them!

I left Kim’s driveway with such a wonderful feeling inside, knowing that I immediately responded to Katheryne’s request for help and that I successfully deducted the sequence of events as to where I should begin the search. As a result, I found what Katheryne and Kim were so desperately looking for! I love what I do and I really enjoy the people that I do these searches for! Moments like these truly never get old! During the entire 60 mile drive home, I wore the happiest smile upon my face! And truly…and that countenance has not diminished a bit in the least each and every time I recall this most fantastic story!

Katheryne’s Testimonial:

“Brian, thank you so much for all of your help! My mother was extremely happy when I told her this morning that you found the earring, and I am so relieved that it is safe! Thank you so much, I truly appreciate your service! Thank you so much for the safe return of a family heirloom! When it was discovered that I had lost my mother’s gold hoop earring during graduation pictures, I was, needless to say, quite panicked. I knew that searching all of the grassy sites would be pointless, and was beginning to lose hope. I felt extraordinarily guilty when she told me that it was a precious gift from her sister in her youth. Sentimentally, those earrings were priceless to her. I knew I had to get it back, but didn’t know how. I mulled over my options, but none seemed plausible. Searching on foot proved fruitless. But then I found you – “The Ring Returner” after reading about you on the THE RING FINDER’S website! You were very proactive and had excellent timing. You went to the search for the earring the day I called you! You were meticulous and detailed in your search, as well as being extremely thorough and communicative and eventually…you found it! My mother was extremely joyful at its return, and now all is well…thanks to you! I am extremely grateful for someone who does an act so kind for complete strangers, and one can be sure to trust Brian for the safe return of their valuables. Thank you Brian so much!”

Platinum Wedding Band Lost in Fort Washington, Maryland Backyard…Found by Member of The Ring Finders

  • from Washington (District of Columbia, United States)

Marc’s Handsome Platinum Wedding Band Shining Above the Ground Once Again After Brian Rudolph Recovered it!

Marc and Ashley Celebrating the Return of the Groom’s Beloved Platinum Wedding Band!

BRIAN RUDOLPH, LOST ITEM RECOVERY SPECIALIST (LAND, WATER, SAND, HOUSES & VEHICLES) WILL FIND YOUR LOST KEEPSAKE! CALL ASAP (301) 466-8644!

In the very early morning hour of 4:30am, I received an email from a young lady named Ashley. She was greatly disturbed about her husband’s wedding band that ended up being lost in their large backyard earlier that very rainy evening.

Here’s what she stated in her email to me:

« Dear Mr. Rudolph,
I am really desperate to find my husband’s wedding ring lost due to my own stupidity in our back garden in Fort Washington, MD – just south of National Harbor. My heart is broken… I don’t know if you are available for service today, Monday, but I would be so very grateful if you could call me to let me know. I understand that the stay at home order may affect things, but we have a single family house and I am afraid if we wait too long, an animal or eagle may see the ring and decide to keep it.  I will go out at first light and keep looking, but I am praying you can be our hope, since it seems you have helped so many people. I also hope that you are safe and well.

Many many thanks,  Ashley »

I immediately called Ashley upon reading her « call for help ». After I spent a long period of time on the phone gathering up facts and details as to how the ring disappeared, I scheduled an immediate visit to Ashley’s home.

I arrived at the most beautiful estate sometime in the early afternoon. There was forest, gardens and breathtaking wildlife surrounding Ashley and Marc’s neighborhood from every side. The sad woman who initially contacted me made her way over to my car and within minutes we were walking around to the back of the house to see where the ring had been lost.

Ashley looked everywhere for the handsome and very heavy platinum ring that ended up somewhere on the grounds of their estate. Marc’s wife specifically picked out the sentimental keepsake for her beloved husband years earlier prior to their day of matrimony. As she said in the email, she was heartbroken.

After reassuring the young lady that I would recover the band no matter how long it took, Ashley rested a bit easier within her and returned inside the house to resume her work. Meanwhile, I gathered up my detection equipment in the car and within ten minutes I started the search.

There was a lot of property to cover. Because the ring could have ended up just about anywhere in the backyard, I metal detected under the second floor deck, all around the basement’s sliding glass door that leads out to the backyard, searched multiple flower beds, the dog pen, all around the trees, as well as grid searched 35 yards of basic grassy lawn territory.

At some point, after a few hours of searching with my Minelab Equinox 800, the shaft of the detector snapped off of my 15 inch coil that I had been using (the disc at the bottom of the shaft). Ashley came out to check on how things were going and I explained what had just happened to my detector. It was just one of those freak things where you can’t explain how the fiberglass broke loose from the coil, causing the shaft to separate. This only caused the young lady to further worry as to whether or not Marc’s wedding band would ever be found now that my detector was broken. I reassured her that I had replacement equipment in the car just in case something like this should ever happen. Little did I know that I had innocently left my replacement coil back at my residence. Therefore, I switched to my secondary Equinox 800 machine (which had only a 6 inch sniper coil attached – used primarily for difficult trashy areas and very hard-to-get to places to detect).

Knowing that I would have to re-grid much of the area again (because I didn’t find the band on the first go-around), I recognized that it would be extremely difficult to use the little 6 inch disc across the very large property to find such a small priceless object. However, I wasn’t giving up the search on this first visit and nothing was going to stop me from trying to find Marc’s handsome platinum wedding band!

I continued to re-grid all of the previous territory that I had covered prior to my detector coil breaking loose. In addition, I took inventory on every little section of the property that just to make sure that I hadn’t missed any areas with my detector. Still, no ring was found.

Finally, in my fifth hour of my search efforts, as I made my way around the circular dog pen (which was located in the center of the lawn, perhaps 25 yards away from the house), I hit a fantastic signal as I was grid searching approximately 4 feet from the aluminum pen fence! The target tone hinted to me that the piece of metal could very well be a surface find. There was a certain « bounce » to the signal which only an experienced metal detectorist could appreciate hearing when searching for a lost ring! I knelt down to investigate what my detector coil picked up along the ground. Then, I pulled out my hand-held metal detector called a pinpointer and zeroed in on the target’s exact location. And there it was! The site was amazing to see! After five plus hours of searching, I finally recovered the very handsome and extremely heavy platinum wedding band that Ashley was so desperate to find! I was simply elated by what I discovered! Just as I was gripping the runaway ring from within the blades of grass below, Ashley was walking out of the sliding glass door entrance to see what I was focusing on! It was at that moment that she heard the great news! A tremendous wave of relief could be seen across Ashley’s countenance! The nightmare was over! All of her fears were swept away in an instant of time with what I happily displayed in my hand and the declaration of what I had just uncovered! It really was a special moment! Ashley could not stop thanking me over and over again!

I was beyond excited that I was able to pull the ring from the property and that Ashley did not have to wait another day to have her husband’s wedding band returned to his finger! We were both so overjoyed and I’m sure Marc was equally grateful, as well! Once I packed up all of my gear, Ashley thanked me once again for all of my efforts. I told her that I was thrilled that she reached out to me and that I could be a part of this very special happy ending! Marc’s wedding band would now be preserved for the rest of their lives and many special stories would continue be told as a result of what I was able to find on that particular Monday afternoon in Fort Washington, Maryland!

How to Find a Lost Ring Thrown in a Yard…Bel Air, Maryland

  • from Washington (District of Columbia, United States)

Niesh’s Spectacular Engagement Ring and Wedding Band Sparkling Once Again!

Peter’s Decision to Contact THE RING FINDERS Ultimately Returns Smiles to the Couple’s Faces!

BRIAN RUDOLPH, LOST ITEM RECOVERY SPECIALIST (LAND, WATER, SAND, HOUSES & VEHICLES) WILL FIND YOUR LOST KEEPSAKE! CALL ASAP (301) 466-8644!

If you want to find a lost ring that was thrown by you or a loved one during a time of stress, check out THE RING FINDERS website and contact a local RING FINDER metal detectorist in your area! That’s what Peter did and he got his wife’s engagement ring / wedding band back on her finger in nearly minutes!

I received a text from a very frustrated young man who spent a couple days searching with a metal detector for his wife’s lost engagement and wedding band (which were welded together) out in their backyard. Finally, when he gave up, Peter went online looking for additional help and eventually he came across THE RING FINDERS directory. He asked if I could be of assistance and I told Peter that I was more than excited to help him find Niesh’s missing ring.

Like many couples experience, Peter and Niesh had a heated moment between the two of them. At some point during the night of their conflict, Niesh took off her engagement ring / wedding band and placed it on her dresser. Out of anger, Peter took the sentimental 14 Karat White Gold, 3.5 Carat Diamond keepsake, opened the french doors to his rear deck located on the second floor of their house and chucked the beloved piece of jewelry as far as he could out onto the backyard lawn.

Over 50% of all of my ring searches have to do with rings that were lost due to a « throw » or « toss » during a couple’s argument. If you are reading this article and you had a similar situation, please do not feel condemnation for what took place. This is very common and there’s hope for you in recovering your lost ring, pendant or other keepsake. You must not waste time, emotions and physical energy…immediately call THE RING FINDERS to help you!

As I talked to Peter on the phone, I gathered all of the facts regarding the lost ring. Just like with an investigation, you have to ask all of the right questions before you can start to crack the case! We set up a time for me to come out the next morning to do my search. I assured the distraught young man that he would get his wife’s ring back to her and that he did not have to worry about a thing.

Early the next morning, around 6:30am, I started driving the hour and fifteen minute journey to the search site. I couldn’t wait to find the missing ring that Peter, his wife and several others could not recover from the backyard. People were walking all over the lawn searching for the jewel, and in addition to that, the metal detector that Peter acquired couldn’t do the job either in pulling the ring from the grass.

Once I arrived, my client took me to his backyard and shortly thereafter I started the hunt! Peter pointed out the approximate direction where he believed he saw the ring fly towards the ground. I explained to him that it is always helpful to get as much information as possible. However, because I find lost items in the complete opposite directions of where my clients thought their possessions had ended up, I leave all possibilities open on the table! I warned Peter not to worry if he saw me metal detecting in a totally unlikely area from where he thought he saw the ring fly. He agreed with a smile. All he wanted was to get his wife’s ring back and forget about what happened a couple days earlier.

My strategy entailed grid searching from the far left side of the property all the way to the right end of the estate. There was probably an acre of property back there, but I was only concerned with about 35 yards square to search. Rings can easily fly 100 ft or more depending on the circumstances so I had much territory to cover.

I finished the first grid line in about three or four minutes. Then, I returned back in the opposite direction to complete the second line. As I was completing the third line, my detector gave me the perfect target signal which lined up with the description of Peter’s wife’s ring. Because THE RING FINDERS’ detectorists (like myself) are experts in recovering rings, we know how to set up our detectors correctly and to discriminate out any unwanted signals. This was one signal that I was excited to receive in my headphones! Though the target was located on the far side of the lawn (opposite in the direction of where Peter believed he saw the band fly), I was almost certain that I had discovered Niesh’s ring. Before I even had a chance to kneel down to the ground to investigate the signal, my eyes had already locked on to the most beautiful and gorgeous looking piece of circular metal surrounded by diamonds everywhere! I found the missing ring! I couldn’t wait to break the news to Peter! He would finally be relieved of all of his worries and frustrations! That was the whole reason why he invited me into this important search to begin with! And I certainly delivered what he was looking for!

Moments later, I surprised Peter with the precious keepsake! He was certainly blown away by my successful efforts! The man could not believe that I had found the ring in less than 5 minutes of searching. Also, he was equally surprised that I found the band on the far opposite side of the lawn! He thought that it landed somewhere on the left side, but I found it much farther over to the right end of the lawn. This confirmed what I told him before regarding how I find things in the opposite directions of where people think their possessions had ended up!

Peter was wearing a face mask (due to the Covid-19 pandemic) so I couldn’t see his facial expressions when I surprised him with the ring. However, the way he excitedly moved about following the great news I shared, certainly showed me how he couldn’t believe that the nightmare was finally over! Now that I had found the very piece of jewelry that he presented to his wife when he asked her to marry her, and the same ring that he put on her finger on their wedding day, Peter could breathe easy again! He was so happy and extremely grateful for my recovery efforts!

As soon as I packed up my gear, I said goodbye to Peter and made my way down the road. The young man who was wise enough to call a professional ring finder, excitedly returned into his house with the ring that he so desperately sought after. He walked straight upstairs to the bedroom, woke up his sleeping wife, and with the warmest smile of love on his face, Peter presented his bride Niesh with the happiest surprise of her week! The young lady’s « other » special gem had finally returned home to her!

Wedding Band Lost for Over a Year…Found Buried in Neighbor’s Gainesville, Virginia Yard

  • from Washington (District of Columbia, United States)

Scott’s Handsome Gold Wedding Band Showing Off Its Brilliance!

Proudly and Excitedly, Scott Holds His Most Priceless Keepsake!

BRIAN RUDOLPH, LOST ITEM RECOVERY SPECIALIST (LAND, WATER, SAND, HOUSES & VEHICLES) WILL FIND YOUR LOST KEEPSAKE! CALL ASAP (301) 466-8644!

I connected with a man named Scott who learned of THE RING FINDERS from an ad that I posted online. He asked me all kinds of questions about what kind of help I could offer him and I asked Scott tons of questions, as well.

A year or so earlier, Scott highly suspected that he lost his 14 karat yellow gold wedding band while helping his elderly neighbors who lived next door to him. He picked up a truck load of mulch for both he and his neighbor and he spent a full day lifting, carrying and spreading numerous bags of mulch throughout the two properties’ flower beds, bushes and surrounding trees. It was sometime at the end of the day that Scott noticed that his ring was missing off of his finger.

The good neighbor searched everywhere for the classic style wedding band. Sadly, all of his efforts could not lead Scott to his cherished wedding day keepsake. Over the next year, he would use metal detectors to search both lawns and still he was unable to recover the ring. It was at the moment when the defeated man saw my ad about the elite international metal detectorist directory that his hope finally began to rise like the sun again!

Scott and I went through all the details during our initial phone call conversation regarding the loss of his wedding band. The next evening I met up with him at his residence. I was excited to help solve this mystery and try to recover his beloved sentimental keepsake for him!

Even though Scott concluded that his ring must have gone missing during the time of the landscaping project, there was no concrete evidence that it was outside. Some stories end up concluding that the person returns into the house and they had washed their hands off and the ring slips off their finger at that moment. In this case, I would be blindly searching based on Scott’s hunch. Also, the mind will try to play tricks on you when you’re metal detecting for someone like this client because you constantly face doubts about one’s recollection of events that took place long ago. In addition to that, the gentleman had already used a metal detector in his attempts to locate the missing band. Though he’s not a professional detectorist, some will get lucky from time to time. That meant that the odds were less in our favor that I might recover the ring based on the number of previous recovery efforts made.

After Scott showed me all of the places where he walked to and from the truck and where he dumped the bags of mulch, I returned to the car to gather up my detecting equipment. I started the search on Scott’s property right where his truck backed up onto his lawn. It was pretty cold outside, yet my adrenalin had kicked in and I was ready for battle!

For approximately 45 minutes to an hour, I checked the front lawn, the flower beds, all around the trees and the side of the house that was adjacent to the neighbor’s property. I got target signals alright but when I dug up the objects that were just below the surface, all that I found were bottle caps, soda can pull tabs and random pieces of aluminum.

I detected every spot that was even a small possibility of where Scott’s ring could have ended up. When I finished the yard and areas near the sidewalk, it was time to take the search over to the neighbor’s property. My client had already been given permission for me to detect the next door neighbor’s front and side yards.

The first sections of the adjacent property that I conquered were the flowerbeds on either side of the neighbor’s front walkway. The mulch had been laid everywhere in these regions. Except for electrical interference from the house and some pieces of miscellaneous metal found just below the surface, there wasn’t anything more to boast about finding. Next, I moved back down the hill to a grassy strip of land that started at the street and led up the driveway. I concluded that that piece of land was also free of any buried jewelry. I slowly and methodically continued my grid search up the grassy knoll along side the driveway. My plan was to detect from the concrete to about 20 feet out into the lawn for the whole distance leading up to the front walkway. I thought that it made logical sense that the ring could have fallen off Scott’s finger as he carried bags of mulch up the hill and over to the flower beds near the front of his neighbor’s house.

Little by little I moved my way up the knoll. I got a number of decent signals which led me to lift up the earth in a few spots just to make sure that I didn’t miss the wedding band. However, nothing of interest was discovered. It was not until I was about halfway up the driveway, just inches from the concrete, that I got a very curious target signal. The object appeared to be buried perhaps 1.5 to 2 inches below the surface. It was showing up on my detector screen as a potential gold type object. I knelt down and proceeded to take a look at what my metal detector had located. Next, I took my handheld metal detector out (called a pinpointer), as well as my digging trowl and I centered in on where exactly the target was buried. Then, I cut below the surface to bring up that section of earth to investigate. At first, I was not seeing what my detectors were picking up. I used the pinpointer again to locate the piece of metal and then all of a sudden my eyes became fixated on a gold colored object that was just barely peaking through the earth that I had dug up! I looked closer and there it was! It was a gold wedding band! My heart lit up so brilliantly at my discovery! I could not have been more excited at that moment! This piece of jewelry had been buried for a good long while and it really made its way down below the earth quite a bit more than I would have expected! I find rings that are buried for one or more years and they sometimes don’t make their way down into the ground as this one ended up! It really depends on the type of earth that you are dealing with and the region that you are searching in. I was so happy! It was late, completely dark outside, cold as ice and the ring could have been anywhere (inside or outside)! And yet I end up finding the band on Scott’s neighbor’s property! I was looking down at the very spot where it had dropped over a year ago and it would now finally be returned to its proper owner’s finger! I couldn’t wait to break the news! My successful search was finally over!

Once I took a few photos of the ring which was left in the very position where I discovered it, I had the honor and privilege to reveal my find with Scott! It was definitely a moment to remember! He was beyond surprised and completely blown away by where I found it! With all of the searching that he had done over the past year (using metal detectors and giving it his all), he was so happy that he called a professional to get the job done! Finally, after all of this time, Scott slid the very handsome and extremely sentimental ring back on his finger! His wife was just as excited to learn that the ring that she had presented to Scott on their wedding day would not be lost forever, but that it was finally unearthed and returned home once again!

Wedding Ring Lost in Germantown, Maryland…Found in Apartment Complex Bush

  • from Washington (District of Columbia, United States)

Kyle’s 14 Karat White Gold Wedding Band Shines Bright Again!

Kyle and Shayna Proudly Show Off the Newly Discovered Wedding Band!

BRIAN RUDOLPH, LOST ITEM RECOVERY SPECIALIST (LAND, WATER, SAND, HOUSES & VEHICLES) WILL FIND YOUR LOST KEEPSAKE! CALL ASAP (301) 466-8644!

I received a call from a young lady named Shayna who learned about THE RING FINDERS and my services from another couple that needed help and found success in recovering their ring through my metal detecting efforts.

Shayna explained to me that her husband Kyle lost his wedding band a day earlier. He was outside on his first floor apartment complex balcony cleaning off cigarette ashes that had blown onto their property from the apartment above. The ashes went all over the couple’s son’s toys. Being a responsible tenant , Kyle cleaned up the mess and walked outside to discard all of the ashes. As Kyle flung the pile, his 14 karat white gold wedding band flew off his finger and landed somewhere in the very thick and dense bushes.

The frustrated fellow spent hours trying to find his lost keepsake. Eventually his efforts spilled over into the next day and he still couldn’t find the ring anywhere. Unfortunately, the bushes were so intensely dense and tight with a strong root system that no attempt to retrieve his ring proved to be successful. He tried over and over again but sadly all of his hard work led to no avail. Finally, Kyle’s wife Shayna gave me a call to seek help. After gathering all of the information regarding the lost ring, I scheduled a time to come out to the property later that evening.

Kyle met me outside by the bushes and he showed me exactly what happened when his wedding band flew off his finger. He wasn’t sure exactly where it ended up in the very large amount of landscaping to cover. When I thought that the bushes were going to be somewhat thick and tight, I had no idea how different these bushes turned out to be. They looked like some type of offshoot of a Juniper ground cover shrub. It was seriously going to be a difficult recovery operation! I could literally bounce on top of these plants like being on a trampoline and they barely moved! That’s how bad it was! Throughout my entire search I would have to walk over the top of the bushes and metal detect every square inch of the wild jungle-of-a-mess! Not only was the root system so very out of control, but the branches of the shrubs were so very tight, strong and majorly condensed.

Kyle returned to his apartment as I gathered up all of my equipment including my metal detectors, pinpointer, boots and gloves. It was a cold night outside but I was up for the challenge of solving the mystery as to where the ring finally ended up. I completely understood why Kyle never found the ring because you could not see a thing looking into those shrubs.

The Horrible Thick Roots and Branches Made the Search Extremely Difficult!

I first started to metal detect over the top of the plants to see if maybe the ring had ended up in the middle of the bushes rather than dropping to the bottom. I picked up all kinds of signals but there was no ring to be found. I did discovered tons of trash all over that area of landscaping!

Eventually, once I pulled most of the trash out of the bushes, I changed the sensitivity on my detector and began to hover over the bushes that were about 18 inches to 2 feet high in some places. Not even a small 6 inch metal detector coil (the disc at the bottom of the metal detector) could fit in between the roots of these tough plants! I had to carefully listen to every faint signal and evaluate whether or not that particular target signal could be legitimate to check out. Each time I came across a target that was in the range of Kyle’s ring, I carefully put my pinpointer down into the bushes and searched the area below. Most of the time, I would be picking up multiple pieces of trash that were in the same area as the signal that I was searching for. It wasn’t easy and after a while it was no longer fun trying to find this little guy!

The Missing Ring Resting in the Middle of the « Jungle »!

Approximately 45 minutes into my search, I picked up another faint signal that was definitely in the range of Kyle’s wedding band. Because I have so much experience with various types of ring searches, I knew the number range that I was looking for on my detector screen. This one matched up quite well but until I got myself down into the bushes once again, I would not know what I was dealing with. I jumped back on top of the bushes and placed my pinpointer way down below. Sure enough, as I isolated that particular piece of metal with my orange handheld detector, I saw Kyle’s missing white gold ring resting beside an old beer bottle! I finally found the distraught young man’s beloved wedding band! I couldn’t be happier to wrap up that particular search!

There was no way in the world that Kyle would have ever found his ring because there was no ability to detect this piece of metal with one’s own eyes in that horrible jungle below! The young man needed the technology and skills that THE RING FINDERS provide people like Kyle and Shayna!

I was beyond thrilled to surprise the couple with the good news! Believe me, they were definitely surprised in the way I revealed the ring to them! Presenting the handsome keepsake back to its owner was a wonderful experience indeed! Seeing Kyle’s and Shayna’s sweet smiles shining so bright were worth all of my hard efforts in recovering the wedding band!

Lost and Found in Washington DC House…Family Heirloom Engagement Ring

  • from Washington (District of Columbia, United States)

Kat’s Beautiful Family Heirloom Engagement Ring!

Excitement and Relief Written All Over Kat’s Smiling Face as She Displays Her Treasured Keepsake!

BRIAN RUDOLPH, LOST ITEM RECOVERY SPECIALIST (LAND, WATER, SAND, HOUSES & VEHICLES) WILL FIND YOUR LOST KEEPSAKE! CALL ASAP (301) 466-8644!

As a ring finder, I consider myself not only a metal detectorist, but also a « metal detective ». Many of the people that contact me are ones that need help solving the mystery as to what happened to their ring. They are not sure if the ring ended up in the grass, leaves, sand, water, or even snow. Yet, they sometimes don’t think outside the box by including the possibility that the ring never made it into nature’s elements all along. I searched houses and vehicles all the time and this story is an example of exactly that situation.

Kat was running late to get to her Washington DC gym for her regular workout class. She took her engagement ring off, placed it in a side pocket in her gym bag, threw some other things inside, placed the bag on the back of her bike and hurried to make her appointment.

When Kat arrived back home later that evening, she dropped her things at the door and forgot about retrieving her ring until sometime the following day or so. When she finally returned to the gym bag to recover the ring, Kat was shocked to find out that it was no longer inside. She started to panic and looked everywhere in the house as well as in her vehicle. She retraced her steps and started searching along the streets that she traveled on her way to the gym, looked everywhere at the workout center and still nothing turned up.

Eventually the distraught young lady filed a police report because she didn’t know if somebody may have stolen the ring while she was working out at the gym. The bag was left unlocked along with all the rest of the other gym members’ belongings. Kat called local pawn shops and checked eBay to see if somebody was already trying to sell her ring online. In addition to that, the young lady even printed « LOST » signs, hoping that if somebody did find it on the street, maybe that person would be honest enough to turn the cherished item in and receive a reward for their high ethical practices. Unfortunately, the phone never rang and no text was received about her beloved keepsake.

This ring meant the world to Kat in various ways. The large diamond was a family heirloom that was previously owned by Kat’s mother in law who had sadly passed away shortly before the ring went missing. Her fiancé Peter (now husband) custom designed the band specifically for Kat. There could never be a replacement of something so special and sentimental as this engagement ring. The two of them were devastated when nothing turned up.

Finally, when all of Kat’s other efforts failed to recover the ring, she thought that if it had fallen out of her bag while biking her way to the gym, perhaps it was still somewhere on the street, near the curb or even the sidewalk. Using a metal detector, she thought, might be a helpful tool in finding her lost family heirloom. The moment that she started Googling her particular need online, The Ring Finder’s website popped up. Kat found my profile page and promptly contacted me.

I love trying to solve mysteries for other people because I know how much these items mean to people. They are not simply material objects. These are stories that represent love, family and commitment. I kept Kat on the phone for over an hour and a half, asking her every question imaginable. I wanted to get an accurate picture of what took place and what were all of the possibilities that we were dealing with as to what could have happened to her precious keepsake.

When I am working with people that are not sure what happened to their item, it is so important that I look at all of the possibilities of the situation as if it’s a crime scene. Then, I come to the most likely conclusion based on my years of experience and I start the search at that point. Wisdom comes from the Lord according to the Bible, and so I heavily rely on my faith in God to help guide me along the investigative trail, using wisdom which is full of logic, common sense and reflecting on past successful experiences.

Once I acquired all of the facts on the phone with Kat, we set up a time later that night for me to come out with my metal detector and immediately search along the streets leading to the gym. If we did not find the ring outside, I highly recommended that I search inside their house. I conduct in-house searches all the time and I am highly successful in recovering lost rings inside houses.

In the meantime, before my arrival, I highly recommended that my client continue to search inside her home near the front entrance. From everything that Kat told me, I told her that I thought that the ring most likely ended up falling out of her bag when she dropped it by the front door. It could have ended up rolling across the hardwood floor and was hiding  behind something. I shared with Kat that shoes are generally the number one culprit where rings end up inside near the front door. Not only have I seen this happen before, but other Ring Finders that I’m associated with have shared similar stories with me, as well.

I shared with Kat that it was highly unlikely that her bag leaned over enough to spill the ring out on the street while she was biking to the gym. If that was the case, she probably would have lost something else along the way, as well. This left us with the possibility of theft or that the ring fell out of her bag when she placed it on the floor upon arriving home that particular evening from the gym.

I suggested that Kat take a a high lumen flashlight, turn off all the lights in her living room which was adjacent to the front hall next to the front door and search every crack, crevice and corner! I encouraged her to look inside anything that the ring could have fallen into (including shoes and other bags nearby). She agreed to take on this assignment during the hours before my arrival.

Well, just as I was texting my client to let her know that I was on my way to Washington DC for the evening search, Kat called me in a state of utter ecstasy to share the amazing news the she in fact recovered her missing ring! Though she had searched the first floor of her house several times during the days prior to contacting me, she listened to my advice and sure enough, she found the ring inside another item that was lying on the floor located behind a piece of furniture!

Apparently, the ring had fallen out of her gym bag, rolled along the hardwood floor behind a piece of furniture and then slipped inside another container! Using her phone’s flashlight in the dark, she was able to catch a glimpse of her precious jewel that was peeking out just enough to catch the light from her phone! Absolutely wonderful! My client was so happy and she couldn’t stop thanking me for all the help that I gave her earlier that afternoon! I was simply overjoyed for Kat that this most cherished family heirloom would remain in the family for many generations to come!

I was beyond excited for Kat and Peter! How fantastic was that moment when I heard the incredible news that the engagement ring was safe and sound in their home! And most importantly, that beautiful  diamond and yellow gold band was finally back on Kat’s finger… exactly where it belonged and nowhere else!

« One evening I was hustling to the gym in downtown DC, running late for a workout class. I took off my engagement ring and tucked it into my bag, but when I got home it was nowhere to be found. The ring has huge sentimental value – the band was custom designed for me, and the diamond originally belonged to my mother in law, who recently passed away. My spouse and I were heartbroken. I searched the gym – nothing. We were terrified that it had slipped out of my bag on the street… what would be the odds of recovering it then? After filing a police report, calling local pawn shops, checking eBay, and printing « LOST » signs, I thought if there was any chance of finding the ring on the street, a metal detector would be necessary. I stumbled across TheRingFinders.com in a Google search and found Brian’s profile. When I called Brian, I was expecting a polite « please schedule an appointment » response. Instead he spent over an hour on the phone with me, talking me through every step I had taken since the last time I saw the ring. He was extremely considerate, reassuring, and positive, while digging for details to narrow down where the ring might be. He offered to come out that night, but after I got off the phone I decided to take one more look around our apartment. Brian had said that night time is actually a good time to look for a ring because it will reflect a bright light. So even though I had already scoured our place, I turned on my phone’s flashlight and looked again. Lo and behold the ring had fallen out of my gym bag, behind a piece of furniture and slipped down inside another container – but it was peeking out just enough to catch the light from my phone. If not for Brian, it would have been weeks, if not months, before I recovered my ring – time I would have spent grieving my most cherished possession. Brian’s thoughtful and thorough consultation put me at ease that I had an expert on the case, and gave me the clue that led me to find it. He has clearly seen it all and cares a ton about the people he is helping as much as solving the mystery of each misplaced item. If you’re in Maryland/DC/VA and you’ve lost something precious, call Brian! You won’t find a better partner to help locate it. Thank you, Brian! »

Metal Detecting Lost Engagement Ring…Found in Burke, Virginia Backyard

  • from Washington (District of Columbia, United States)

Michelle’s Elegant Blue Sapphire Engagement Ring Shining Above Ground Once More!

A Very Happy and Relieved Bride-To-Be Holding Her Most Precious Jewel!

BRIAN RUDOLPH, LOST ITEM RECOVERY SPECIALIST (LAND, WATER, SAND, HOUSES & VEHICLES) WILL FIND YOUR LOST KEEPSAKE! CALL ASAP (301) 466-8644!

A young lady named Michelle called me in a state of desperation, asking for help in finding her platinum, 3/4 carat blue sapphire engagement ring. It had gone missing the day before and the bride-to-be was devastated in not knowing where to turn or what to do about the situation. After many calls were made to businesses where she may have lost her ring, Michelle googled “metal detector rentals” in the Burke Virginia area. The first listing was for THE RING FINDERS, an international metal detectorist directory. Her only mistake made in this whole story is that Michelle didn’t click and contact THE RING FINDERS first! Instead, she decided to select the next listing which advertised metal detectors for rent. It wasn’t until the young lady and her concerned father failed to recover the most sentimental piece of property in Michelle’s life that she finally returned to THE RING FINDER’S online website to locate a local metal detectorist near to her.

The moment that Michelle began to share her story with me, I recognized that she had the best attitude under the circumstances of what she was dealing with. Michelle and her fiancé Tim were greatly looking forward to tying the knot on May 15th of 2020, and the thought of not wearing her engagement ring on the most special day of their lives was just devastating (Note: Sadly, little did Michelle know that due to the Covid-19 pandemic which erupted just a week later, the couple would have to postpone their wedding to a future date). And yet, as upset as Michelle was, she maintained a certain positive mindset and was hopeful that her phone call to me would prove to be the wisest decision she could make since none of her other ideas brought back her sentimental keepsake. Calling her fiancé in Great Britain where Tim had been currently working at the time was one of the most difficult moments for Michelle when she shared the sad news that her ring had disappeared. As it got closer and closer to the “big day”, there were more details being checked off the enormous wedding to-do list and this was clearly a step in the wrong direction! The bride had looked forward to soon gazing at her beautiful gem as she would embrace her future spouse upon Tim’s arrival home from England in preparation for their spring wedding. That dream of wearing her engagement ring for Tim was now in jeopardy of ever happening.

THE BACKSTORY

Here are the details that Michelle shared with me about what she was doing prior to the disappearance of the ring. Michelle and her best friend Jenny spent the afternoon together. The bride drove over to her friend’s house and they first took Jenny’s car to the local Best Buy for some quick shopping. Next, they headed over to the shopping mall where they had lunch at Popeye’s restaurant and then stopped over at Sephora to try on some makeup samples for the wedding day. They finished their task and then walked to the other side of the parking lot where Jenny’s car was parked. Finally, they drove back to Michelle’s best friend’s house where they hung out in Jenny’s room and inside the kitchen area.

Up to this point the excited bride-to-be wasn’t consciously aware of whether or precious ring was still on her finger at that time or not. It wasn’t until a couple of hours later, after Michelle arrived back to her own neighborhood that she realized the ring was gone. Once she pulled into her driveway, she walked up the front path, entered the house and immediately placed the dog harness on her sweet canine named Penny. They proceeded to take a long walk down the street and back to her residence. Then, they went along the left side of the house towards the 2.5 acre back yard where she allowed Penny to play in her dog pen as she talked on the phone with a friend and then made a call to her fiancé Tim. Because the young lady was focused on her conversations with her husband-to-be on the phone, as well as with her girlfriend while walking Penny earlier that afternoon, her mind and eyes would not have been focused on whether or not her ring was still on her finger. After a while, the two continued their walk around the property to the front yard where Michelle took the dog to the end of the block, and then back to the house where they finally ended their long trek for the day. Once she brought Penny inside for her feeding time, she looked down at her hand and was shocked to discover that her beloved blue sapphire engagement ring was gone!

The distraught young lady immediately contacted Best Buy, Popeye’s, Sephora and the mall security to see if they could check their video footage to verify whether or not Michelle was wearing her engagement ring as she walked out of any of those stores. Out of all three retail places, Best Buy was the only one that was able to confirm that Michelle did in fact have the ring on her finger when she walked out to Jenny’s car! This helped a little bit by cutting out the electronics store, but there was a lot of territory that was left to be in question. Of course, nothing was turned in at the mall security office or at any of the places where the ladies stopped at inside the shopping mall.

The next thing that Michelle did was contact a local hardware store that advertised metal detector rentals online. She and her father took the Garrett Ace 150 and took turns swinging the machine all over their multiple acre estate, scanning a long side the road up and down the block and then back towards home again. While pulling up random pieces of iron and insignificant metal objects, Michelle felt so frustrated with herself that she just couldn’t remember when she had it on her hand last! After hours of searching, Michelle and her dad still didn’t give up and they continued to methodically cover the bride’s tracks from the front door, all around the front steps area, up and down the street, along the side of her house towards the backyard, walking in the direction of the dog pen and all across the lawn to the other side. They detected every spot where Michelle remembered walking so that they didn’t miss a section of that lawn. Finally, the father and daughter duo finished scanning the grass on the right side yard of the house and then covered the front as the search came to a conclusion. By the time they were done searching, complete exhaustion and disappointment set in. It was at this page in the story when I, Brian Rudolph, of THE RING FINDERS was contacted with the hope that I could finally bring resolution to this very troubling mystery!

THE SEARCH

The Night Search – Day 1

I arrived at Michelle’s Burke, Virginia neighborhood sometime around 6pm later the same day when she called me in the morning hours. Earlier on the phone, the bride-to-be shared that she still wanted to personally do some more metal detecting around the property before finally calling it quits. So we agreed that if she still had no luck, I would come out later that day and get a new search started. Frankly, it was a lot of ground to cover and there was no way of knowing whether the ring had even fallen off her finger near her home or someplace else. Knowing that the priceless jewel had already been slightly loose on Michelle’s hand and that there were so many possibilities as to where it could have ended up, I had to keep my mind focused and remain confident that I wasn’t wasting my efforts as I searched around her property, as well as detecting up and down the street. That always plays a “mind factor” when there are just so many loose ends to a mystery case.

Upon asking Michelle additional questions, her first thought was that she must have lost it somewhere in the yard. However, doubt set in because she began to think of all of the places that she had visited throughout the day (other than Best Buy) and realized that the ring could have come off anywhere since she didn’t remember the last time she saw it on her finger.

The other side of the coin was that because the weight of the platinum ring was quite recognizable, Michelle believed that she would have realized that the ring had been missing earlier when she was hanging out with Jenny. So, she had a feeling that the ring could have been lost along the front walkway, somewhere in the neighborhood along the street, or possibly lost in her yard. One thing was for sure, Michelle and her father felt that they had done a fine enough job of metal detecting all of these “hot spots”, yet there were no positive results to prove their claim.

Once I introduced myself to Michelle and her friend Jenny who was over at the house, as well, Michelle showed me around the property and got me oriented in terms of all of her movements from beginning to end. She even took me back to the laundry room where she fed her dog Penny when she first realized that the ring was missing. I checked her blue hoody sweatshirt pockets with my handheld metal detector, and then searched the foyer area of the house before starting to metal detect along her front steps and around the bushes. The most important thing that we did was to pray and ask the Lord for help in recovering Michelle’s most priceless possession. I told her that God loves marriage because he instituted the whole concept of marriage and the engagement ring acts as a symbol of commitment which God ordained from the beginning of time between man and woman.

Next, I metal detected a pile of dog poop bags near the garage just in case the ring ended up in one of them during a “pickup “. I continued my night search all along the side yard, moving slowly towards the backyard and around to the other side. I only had about 2.5 hours to look for the jewel so I did not do a consistent grid search, but rather a quick scan by zigzagging the metal detector with the hopes that I might hit the target as I moved quickly to cover as much territory as possible. There were various target signals that hit my detector but none of the metal appeared to be above ground.

I finished the quick scan around the perimeter of the house including the section of the yard where the dog pen fence had once been set in place and where Michelle had been hanging out with the dog the day before. Still nothing turned up. I then walked along the street all the way to the end of the block and then moved my way back around on the opposite side of the road and went all the way to the other end of the court. By the time I backtracked to the house, I had just enough time left to inspect Jenny’s car and then Michelle’s vehicle as soon as her parents arrived back home from the airport. Using a high lumens headlamp and my highly effective endoscope which can show me hidden details within cracks and crevices in vehicles and in houses, I concluded that Michelle’s ring never ended up in either vehicle. Still curious if I had missed anything, I quickly rechecked some of the side yard to the left of the house once more. Nothing turned up where the grass met the driveway and where it sloped down towards the tree line. It was at that point that I needed to turn my equipment off, pack my things up and say good night to Michelle.

Before leaving Michelle’s house, I summarized all of what I had accomplished that evening and I was quite encouraged that I covered quite a bit of ground even though I did not discover the ring. Michelle was equally positive and kept thanking me, expressing how much she appreciated my help. I gave her some homework assignments to take care of for the next three days before I would be able to return that coming Sunday to resume the search. I told her that I was hoping that she would find the ring before having to see me again. I also shared with the bride that I would continue to pray for the discovery of this “symbol of love” between her and Tim until I was scheduled to return three days later. Michelle agreed that she would take my advice and place flyers in everyone’s mailboxes in the neighborhood, as well as post an ad on Craigslist just in case somebody found the ring at the local mall. Though she would have to return the metal detector, Michelle would keep her eyes open and continue to scan both sides of the street to see if she might eyeball the ring. She would also check her yard again including the house living room which I did not inspect up to that point. Michelle would also check in with the mall security, Popeye’s and Sephora to see if anybody turned the ring in. Once we covered all of our bases, I left her place and encouraged her to stay strong and believe for a miracle.

The Day Search – Day 2

Three days after my initial search, I returned to Michelle’s place on a beautiful but very cold Sunday morning. I gave myself a search window of 3.5 hours of metal detecting around Michelle’s property. My goal was to grid as much territory as possible and this time I would swing the detector with very fine gridlines as opposed to the zigzag pattern that I did before due to my limitations on time the other night.

Though I had already searched the street, I thought it would be best for Michelle to take me on a walk towards the end of the court where the street dead ends in order for me to get an exact foot movement as to where she walked about with Penny four days earlier. We also prayed again and asked the Lord for help in recovering Michelle’s beautiful ring (calling on the Name of the Lord for wisdom and guidance is the most important detail in all of my searches).

When we returned from my orientation down the street, I asked Michelle to take me to the backyard and she once again walked me through some of her steps when she was walking the dog that afternoon of the disappearance of her ring. Everything checked out to be the same account as before but with one exception. When I asked her again if she had walked anywhere in the center of the backyard, she did mention that she had walked from the far back of the lawn over to the dog pen. This meant that she had in fact crossed into the center of the yard and walk towards the entrance of the dog’s pen gate to allow Penny to move about inside the fence line. I would remember this important piece of information later in my search that morning.

While Michelle relaxed in her house with her parents, I started metal detecting up and down the street, focusing on the exact areas where Michelle had guided me earlier. Everything checked out clear. Then, I returned back to her estate and began grid searching all along the side property heading in the direction of the backyard. Nothing checked out along the line of pine trees that separated Michelle’s place from her neighbor’s property. I kept moving my way towards the backyard all along the perimeter of where she had previously walked. It was at that point that I utilized that very important information that Michelle shared with me earlier when she mentioned that she cut across the middle of the yard over towards the dog pen. I continued metal detecting in that same direction.

It was extremely bitter cold outside and at some point the very thoughtful bride-to-be came out to check on me. She kindly offered an inviting cup of hot chocolate which I gratefully welcomed!

While the kettle was being heated up, so did my search as I moved closer and closer across the center of the multi-acre lawn towards the pen area (in the same direction of where Michelle and Penny walked to the pen’s entrance). Though I had previously covered the parameter of where the fence was set up initially on my last visit, I had not metal detected closer to the center of the backyard heading towards the dog pen’s gate from that center spot. This was definitely a small strip of new territory for me to investigate.

Just as I was approximately 10 feet or so to the left of where the dog pen gate entrance would have been set up, I hit a very promising target signal. Though I had already encountered multiple target signals that appeared to be quite shallow or on top of the ground, nothing turned up to be Michelle’s ring. This particular target signal had a certain bounce to it and a certain tone that was in the range of what I was looking for. I was quite excited as to the possibilities of what this piece of metal could turn out to be. I knelt down in the grass, took out my pinpointer (a handheld metal detector) and zeroed in on exactly where the target was hiding. Just as I started rummaging through some blades of grass to finally catch the stubborn little piece of metal, my eyes excitedly became fixated on a circular shaped object that was silver in appearance! Then, I saw the color blue at the very tip of this spectacular looking halo! I found it! I found Michelle’s lost ring! I was just as excited as I was surprised at the fact that I found it in such a short period of time in the location of where I was searching! I probably had been outside in the backyard for less than 30 minutes or so before bringing this difficult search to a close!

The ring could have fallen anywhere in the neighborhood or it could have ended up in somebody else’s pocket had the jewel not stayed on Michelle’s finger long enough to return back to the property after doing her afternoon errands! I could have been out there searching just about anywhere for the next several hours or even possibly days on end all to conclude that it was nowhere to be found! And yet I discovered the engagement ring before having to go through countless hours of detecting in the freezing cold! I was overwhelmed with gratitude unto the Lord for what I was able to recover for this concerned young lady! I couldn’t wait to reveal what I had found!

At some point soon after I found the ring, Michelle came out with the hot chocolate. It was absolutely delicious! In the moments that were to follow, the surprise that I revealed to the bride turned out to be even sweeter and more memorable than even that amazing cup of hot chocolate which Michelle had graciously made for me! Her reaction to what I recovered for her was completely off the charts! Her parents were also beyond blown away with excitement and were frankly in a state of awe as to what I was able to accomplish that morning! In the foyer of their lovely home, Michelle, her parents and I all celebrated together this fantastic return of their daughter’s most beautiful blue sapphire engagement ring! Tim was contacted soon after our party came to close and he was so very relieved that the ring was found! He also expressed his deep appreciation for my successful efforts and asked Michelle to convey his many words of thanks for recovering the priceless keepsake!

I was so proud to know that what no one else was able to find, I had discovered the beloved bridal betrothal piece and brought it back to Michelle’s finger that morning! Yes, now that it was successfully found, that special sentimental treasure would excitedly count the days when it would happily welcome its new counterpart…yes indeed, Michelle’s long awaited wedding band!

  • from Washington (District of Columbia, United States)

Debra’s Most Elegant Family Heirloom Engagment Ring!

Debra and Russell Beyond Excited With the Return of Debra’s Precious Sentimental Keepsake!

BRIAN RUDOLPH, LOST ITEM RECOVERY SPECIALIST (LAND, WATER, SAND, HOUSES & VEHICLES) WILL FIND YOUR LOST KEEPSAKE! CALL ASAP (301) 466-8644!

Debra was beyond distraught after leaving the nail salon and realizing that her 14 karat white gold, 1.5 carat diamond family heirloom engagement ring was no longer on her finger! In a state of panic she tried to replay all of her steps from the time that she had remembered wearing it earlier that day until her moment of shock. Following the return to the nail salon to see if maybe Debra’s most sentimental keepsake slipped off her finger somewhere inside, she realized the enormity of the situation. It wasn’t found nor was it turned in by anyone. She then called a few businesses where she had visited throughout the day, but nothing was discovered. The helplessness that Debra was experiencing was unimaginable. She immediately made up signs and distributed them to the places where the engagement ring may have slipped off her finger. When still nothing became of her valiant efforts, the young lady thought at that point to seek a professional recovery specialist online who could help her during this crisis. She came across THE RING FINDERS, an international metal detectorist directory. Debra was hoping to find a metal detecting service specialist in the Rockville, Maryland area and my information popped up. We immediately made contact and Debra recounted her story from the beginning. Here are all the facts that I gathered by asking her many questions and listening to the countless details of what happened.

THE BACKSTORY

For a couple of days during the week, Debra and her family had to stay in a Rockville, Maryland hotel while their home was being renovated. Once the project was completed, the happy couple packed all their things up and looked forward to returning to their newly upgraded residence. Hours later, once all of their bags and suitcases were unloaded from their vehicle and placed back inside their house, Debra left again to take care of some errands for the next several hours.

Debra stopped at three businesses following their return home earlier that afternoon. She first went to the dermatologist. Then, she drove up the street to get coffee at the local Starbucks and hung out there for some time while she did some work on her laptop at one of the tables. Finally, Debra drove to her nail appointment just a few miles away. It wasn’t until after she left the salon and made it back to her vehicle that she realized that her engagement ring was missing. The whole mystery got very complicated because she did not remember the last time that she saw her most priceless family heirloom on her finger! This meant that she could have lost the ring any time between the time she had been staying in the hotel all the way up to when she left the nail salon. Frantically, she made phone calls and visited all of the places that she had been at, but nothing turned up. It was at that point when she went online to search for help and I was beyond happy that she got in touch with me!

THE SEARCH

After Debra recounted all of the details of what happened from the time she woke up to begin packing up her things at the hotel until the moment that she realized the ring had gone missing, I immediately set up a time to meet Debra out in the parking garage of the dermatologist’s office. The plan was to start there and then work our way over to the nail salon parking lot if we didn’t find it anywhere else. I put aside the idea of going to the hotel because their room had already been cleaned and occupied by new guests. Also, Debra was quite diligent in having the staff check out the room from top to bottom to make sure that her ring didn’t get left sitting on top of a table or desk, or that it didn’t end up on the carpet somewhere in the room. Nothing was reported by the staff so there was no reason to visit the hotel.

Even before Debra and her husband Russell arrived at Search Site #1, I had already started to metal detect the area in the parking garage based on the accurate details that Debra gave me as to where she was parked. I grid searched that entire area and came up with nothing. I used my high lumens headlamp to search the dark area while my metal detector did the rest. But still I came up short. By the time that Debra arrived, the only other place to check on the concrete was the water runoff grate that was located near her vehicle at the time that she visited the dermatologist. We thought that the ring could have rolled down into that space after slipping off of Debra’s finger. I put my endoscope (a device that helps to see between cracks and small spaces) down into the slits of the water runoff drain, but it was free of any jewelry. The next step was to inspect Debra’s vehicle. Just as Russell arrived with their children, I was just taking my faithful endoscope to investigate all of the cracks and crevices in Debra’s SUV. Sadly, nothing turned up there either. I then checked her purse and jacket before concluding that it was time to drive to Search Site #2 which was just a few blocks up the road where the young lady visited a Starbucks. She would meet me at the site while Russell took off again to buy dinner for the kids.

Once we both parked near the coffee shop, Debra showed me where she had pulled in initially, parked and then walked towards the Starbucks. I metal detected that entire section of the parking lot but there was absolutely no ring to be found. We then took the search inside the café and I used my high lumens headlamp to expose any jewelry that may have landed under any of the counters or fell into a crack or crevice where the walls met the hardwood flooring. Again, we ended up completely empty handed. There was a fellow sitting towards the back of the place who recognized my client and asked if we were still looking for her lost ring. He said that he had been in the coffee shop several times since the time he saw her the other day and that nothing had been found or turned in. The management confirmed his account.

Before leaving that plaza, I wanted to check the dumpster where all of the Starbuck’s trash was dumped into just in case her ring landed in her pastry bag when she dropped it into the receptacle before leaving the place. Unfortunately, our plan to check the garbage was compromised when I took a trip to the back of the shopping plaza and saw that the dumpster was actually a crushing machine. There was no way that I could have access to the trash from the day before. At that point there was nothing more that I could do at that particular location, and so it was time to move on to Search Site #3.

Debra gave me the nail salon name and address and so I met her over at the spot in the parking lot where she realized that her ring was no longer on her finger. We got out of our vehicles and Debra retraced her steps by taking me across the lot and over to the front of the salon. Then, we returned back towards where her vehicle had originally been parked. I used my metal detector to cover the parking lot areas where there was a good chance that the ring could have dropped and rolled along the concrete pavement. When all was found to be clear, I scanned the lot spaces over with my headlamp, hoping that I would discover what may had been overlooked by everyone else in the past day. I searched along the walkway leading to the entrance of the salon and again there was nothing positive to report. Sadly, we struck out for a third time. I don’t go down easy without a fight to the finish but this particular search in these three locations were definitely done and over.

Once I finished packing up my car with all of my metal detecting equipment, I walked over to Debra’s vehicle and we stood outside to review everything that we had covered up to that point. My down and distraught client kept a really great attitude the whole time and was quite upbeat. Even at that point she was still trying to look at the bright side regarding the fact that her family was healthy and safe and that she shouldn’t continue to let the situation bother her. However, I kept reminding her that the search was not completely over.

From everything that Debra had told me from the beginning when she and her husband packed their suitcases up to leave the hotel, all the way until she realized her ring was gone at the nail salon I felt that something didn’t completely add up. She did say that her ring was loose on her finger, which led me to believe that if she didn’t remember taking the ring off at the dermatologist or even at the nail salon, it was quite possible that the ring was still in her possession and that it had never slipped off her finger at any of her stops that day. I actually reminded her of this fact throughout our investigation starting at the dermatologist’s parking garage. I then reminded her again at the Starbucks and finally while we were searching the salon parking lot, I told her that same theory again. Now it was time to encourage her with that same hunch once again just before we would say goodbye for the evening.

I told Debra that it was very possible that the ring slipped off of her finger while she was packing up her things and placing her clothes inside her suitcase and laundry bag back at the hotel. Or, the sentimental piece could have slipped off of Debra’s finger back at home while transferring clothes from one place to the other just before leaving to do some of her errands. When she was at her own property she had mentioned that she had done very little checking for the ring inside her suitcase and what was placed in the clothes hamper bag to be washed. I believed that it was a good chance that Debra might find the ring somewhere buried in the suitcase or in something that had already been transferred into their hamper before she left to go take care of her errands. I considered this to be a viable scenario because if the ring was as loose as she told me it was, I didn’t think it would have survived staying on her finger throughout the day. With all of the physical movements that were made from the time she started packing her things up until she got home and began to unpack a few things, there was a very high probability that the ring was still waiting for her to discover it back in her home.

Debra appreciated my hopeful words and thoughts and she promised that she would let me know if anything turned up. I asked her if it was okay if we said a prayer, asking the Lord to lead her to the ring if in fact the piece of jewelry never left her house from the time that she had returned home from the hotel. She gladly welcomed my prayer and we bowed our heads there in the parking lot. Then, once I finished asking the Lord to guide her to the ring, I requested one last thing of her. I asked if she would call me if she found the ring. But if it didn’t show up I asked Debra to text me letting me know that the mystery still continued. That way if I saw a call come through I would know that there was something wonderful happening on her end of the line! She thought that was a great idea and we parted ways.

Later that night, as my wife and I were watching the Academy Awards, my smartphone began to ring. I looked down at the caller ID and it turned out to be Debra’s cell phone number! Immediately I knew what that had meant! She must have found her beloved engagement ring! I took the call and immediately I heard jubilation and happiness on the other end! Debra, indeed had found her cherished keepsake! With great excitement I yelled, “You found it! You found it, didn’t you!” Debra answered with great joy, “You were right. Brian, you were right the whole time! It was with my stuff! I found it in the middle of the clothes in our laundry bag! We would have never found it without your help as you encouraged me to check through all my clothes and through the laundry bag and that’s where it was! It had never left my house after getting back from the hotel! We would have thrown all of the clothes along with the ring in the washing machine and who knows what would have happened to it then! I can’t thank you enough for encouraging me to check my things! You said it, you did say that you had that feeling all along even as we were checking all the other spots! Thank you so very much!”

I was so delighted to hear this amazing news! Debra’s most treasured piece of jewelry was found an hour after she had arrived home! She told her husband that she had a homework assignment to do which was to carefully look through her clothes piece by piece as I had done with her bag and coat earlier that evening. After searching through the suitcase, the laundry bag was the final spot left to check out. That’s where she finally discovered the beautiful treasure which was resting in the middle of all the clothes in the laundry bag!

The nightmare was finally over! This very happy moment made me smile from ear to ear and all of us celebrated for a good while on the phone! Debra shared that even one of her children began to cry because of how happy mom was again! From the moment that the ring was discovered until the time I was informed of the marvelous news, the child was still welled up with tears of joy! I listened to all of the steps that Debra took that led up to her finding the ring in the laundry. It was absolutely wonderful! I was so moved by all of the emotion that was taking place on the other end of the phone that I requested a moment of thanks and praise to the Lord for what was eventually found. Debra gathered her family near the phone and I led us all in a time of acknowledging the goodness of God with the recovery of this priceless possession! What a special evening it was!

After many more thanks and expressions of appreciation that were exchanged between both sides of the phone, we said our goodbyes. Just as I ended the call and started walking back to the living room to resume watching the awards, I smiled and suddenly thought to myself that this special ring recovery story could have received its own Academy Award for being a screenplay with the happiest of happy endings!

Testimonial

“I contacted Brian late on a Friday evening after I had lost my family heirloom diamond engagement ring earlier that afternoon. After searching and searching where I thought it slipped off my finger I put up signs and realized I needed a professional. Brian got back to me the next morning and was extremely kind and responsive. We spoke over the phone and he gathered additional information and then (since I had put up signs and searched already) we made a plan to meet the very next evening (Sunday).

I met Brian in the first spot where I thought I had lost it. He searched the parking lot as well as my car, bag, jacket – basically anywhere it could have gone missing. I was pretty certain it slipped off my finger and I knew the approximate timeframe, I just didn’t know where it happened. Once again, Brian was so kind and incredibly thorough during the whole process. He went with me to two more locations where I thought it could have been. He kept talking me through everything and was so positive as we looked for the ring.

By the end of the search we still did not find it. I was pretty sad but Brian was as well. It was clear that he cares very much and really wants to help people find their missing items. We had a good talk and he again helped me think through all my steps that day. As we did I mentioned that I had put away some laundry in a bag that day before I went out. He instructed me to thoroughly search the laundry and my luggage (I was away that weekend) and he told me that he believed in his heart I would still find it. I wasn’t sure myself but his optimism was infectious.

Soon after I got home I let my husband know that I didn’t find the ring but I had to search the laundry. An hour later I searched the bag item by item very carefully just like I saw Brian do as he searched my coat and bag. I got to the very middle of the pile and SURPRISE – there was my ring sitting right there!!! It had slipped off while I was gathering laundry and I had not realize for about two hours while I ran errands. I called Brian and he was so happy. I absolutely credit Brian with playing a major role in finding the ring and believe that if i had not reached out to him I may not have found it. Most likely the laundry would have been thrown in the machine and who knows what may have happened to the ring from there. Thank you so much Brian for all your help!

If you are missing something of great value or importance to you please reach out to Brian – he is wonderful and he will help you to the best of his abilities to get it back!”

Metal Detecting Lost 24 Karat Gold Chain…Found on Bethesda, Maryland School Playground

  • from Washington (District of Columbia, United States)

Connor’s 24 Karat Gold Family Heirloom Chain

Connor Excited To Be Reunited With His Special Keepsake!

BRIAN RUDOLPH, LOST ITEM RECOVERY SPECIALIST (LAND, WATER, SAND, HOUSES & VEHICLES) WILL FIND YOUR LOST KEEPSAKE! CALL ASAP (301) 466-8644!

I received a phone call from a young lady named Jaclyn who found out about my Maryland metal detecting service on an international metal detectorist directory website called THE RING FINDERS. She was looking for a professional metal detectorist who was capable of recovering lost gold chains and pendants. Jaclyn’s son, Connor, a seven year old 2nd grader, lost his 24 karat gold chain while having fun on his Bethesda, Maryland elementary school playground during recess time. A fellow student playfully grabbed a hold of Connor’s collar and accidentally locked his fingers around the boy’s chain, causing it to break and fall somewhere on the playground’s wood chips. Immediately, Connor looked down to make sure that his chain and pendant (which were a gift from his father) were still fastened around his neck. Unfortunately, neither of the family heirloom pieces could be found. At that point, a search ensued for the next five minutes before all of the children had to return to their classes. Teachers and some of the kids helped the alarmed child look for the missing chain and pendant which meant so very much to him. The young boy began to cry when he was told that the search had to be concluded and that he needed to head indoors. As Connor was escorted back inside the school building, a few of the staff members continued to search for the jewelry. However, even after the playground was extensively scanned over, sadly nothing turned up.

Connor’s mom shared with me on the phone that the chain and pendant had been in the family for many years. The boy’s father used to wear the jewelry throughout his younger years, right up through college and beyond. The same gold chain had originally been gifted to him by his own father (Connor’s grandfather) when they were living in the Middle East decades earlier. The pendant was also a gift to Connor’s father which was a 14 karat gold “Number 2” symbol, which was Connor’s father’s baseball jersey number when he played in college. It was worn through all of those years in school and then Connor received the chain and pendant as a gift from his dad just six months before it was lost.

The boy was extremely upset about losing his special family heirloom. As soon as he returned home from school that day, with tears in his eyes, he immediately told his mother what had been lost on the elementary school playground. They immediately returned to the school to search for the missing jewelry. Unfortunately, they too still could not find the chain or pendant anywhere. After 25 minutes, Jaclyn had to take her son to drum classes and their search had to come to an abrupt end. It was quite possible that the chain and / or pendant had already been picked up by another student between Connor’s recess period and when the after-school daycare kids came out to play that day.

The next morning, Connor’s mom continued to look for the items throughout the day and still nothing turned up. Sadly, all of her added efforts led to no avail. It was at that point that Jaclyn searched online for help. That’s when my information became available on THE RING FINDERS’ website. I told the concerned mother that I would be happy to conduct a search later in the evening after finishing up at another site. She was extremely grateful that I was willing to come out at such a very late hour that evening. I told her that time was of the essence because if one or both pieces of jewelry were not found yet, they could easily be picked up the next day!

Just a side note: When Jaclyn and I first spoke on the phone, she had excitedly shared that she personally witnessed a successful recovery of her friend’s lost engagement ring a couple years back that was found by THE RING FINDERS’ very own legendary metal detectorist, Stan Ross! She was hanging out on a beach in California when her friend’s ring went missing in the sand. Jaclyn told me how impressed she was at the whole search process! I responded by sharing with her that I had just ironically spoken to that very “hero” earlier that morning! We both got a kick out of that coincidence! She hoped that I could bring the same encouraging results for her beloved son.

So, later that same night, after I wrapped up my earlier search in Northern Virginia, I traveled to Bethesda, Maryland to attempt a recovery of Connor’s lost jewelry. Though it was after one in the morning, I still wore a smile on my face as I drove past my childhood house on Greentree Road. I blew a kiss in the direction of that special piece of real estate where my mother still resided. Then, moments later, I turned the corner to where the elementary school was located and parked over by the playground.

Connor’s mom was very helpful in giving me an accurate description as to where her son was playing at the time that the chain broke loose. Of course, nobody knew how long the jewelry may have stayed on Connor before it finally fell to the ground. But at least we had an idea of where the initial incident took place. Slowly and carefully, with all of my winter gear on, including my high lumens headlamp blazing above me, I metal detected over the wood chips, using a large 15 inch coil to help me cover more territory at a faster pace. During the search, I had to keep some distance away from all of the playground equipment poles which anchored the play equipment deep down into the ground. The metal poles make it difficult to detect close and around those structures because it causes a lot of interference for the detector. If I still couldn’t find the items after moving about the fairly large playground area, I would use a smaller coil to be able to get closer to all of the reinforcement bar metal and see if the jewelry ended up alongside any of the play equipment pieces.

I may have searched for approximately 45 minutes in the “hot spot” areas but I did not find Connor’s jewelry anywhere. It didn’t surprise me because he could have walked a bit with the broken chain and pendant hanging off of his clothes before both pieces fell to the “wood turf”. I continued my search around a new area and just as I made my way into a particular section of play equipment, I got a decent target signal on my detector screen. Up to this point I had many other signals that I had investigated and each one came up as something other than what I was hoping to discover. I found pull tabs off of soda cans, pencil erasers with the metal crowns that hold the erasers in place, various coins, foil from bubblegum wrappers, bottle caps and even hat pins and a matchbox car. I really wanted this target to be something different than all of the other “treasures” that I had previously uncovered from beneath the playground! Just as I leaned downed to the ground and began to use my pinpointer (a handheld metal detector that helps to “zero in” on where the metal object is located) over the area where the metal detector indicated that the object had been resting, my eyes adjusted to seeing traces of gold shining ever so brightly through the many wood chips that covered the long snake-shaped object! My heart raced with excitement and further anticipation of what I might have found! Carefully, I dusted a bunch of the wood chips that rested on top of this glorious object and there it was! It was Connor’s most handsome 24 karat yellow gold chain! What a fantastic find it was! That necklace certainly had some serious weight to it! I couldn’t have been any happier to recover such a special family heirloom! This only encouraged me to continue my efforts in recovering the 14 karat yellow gold number two pendant! I was really recharged at that moment when I discovered the missing chain and a new burst of energy came upon me!

I probably searched for another hour for the pendant but unfortunately it never showed up anywhere on the playground. I hoped that someone had not walked off with it, but there was no way of telling. I resolved to return bright and early the next morning before school started in order for me to double check every place that I had already detected. By the time I exited the cold and dark playground, it was nearly 3:15am in the morning. Driving home that night, I couldn’t wait to return the next day for a second go around.

A few hours after I arrived home, I was already waking up (sometime around 6:30am) and preparing to return back to the school playground to continue my search for the lost pendant. Not only did I recheck off of the territory where I had previously searched, but I made sure that the pendant didn’t fall alongside any of the reinforcement poles. My method to do this was to use my hands to push all of the wood chips that surrounded those play equipment poles away from that metal so that I could then use my detector to check everything that settled in those areas. Because they are made of steel, those reinforcement beams could easily mask the object that I was trying to detect. Therefore, it was crucial that I pushed everything that surrounded those poles at least a foot to a foot and a half away from them. I used a smaller coil at the end of my metal detector which helped to pick up small gold objects like this pendant located near and around playground reinforcement bars.

I searched for approximately two hours and I still couldn’t locate the lost pendant. I returned to the playground one more time later that afternoon but sadly I had to conclude that another student must have picked up the gold piece and walked off with it before I was called out to the scene. Eventually, I contacted Connor’s mother and shared both the good news and the “not so good news”. She was thrilled that I was at least able to recover the lost chain. Though I was quite disappointed that I was not able to find the pendant, I was quite content that under the tough circumstances I was able to find such a special family heirloom that would certainly one day carry another pendant like the one that came before it.

A few days later, I had the privilege of meeting Connor and his family at a local Bethesda, Maryland pizza place where I reunited the happy second grader with his most handsome sentimental keepsake! He couldn’t have been more excited to have received it back into his hands! As the young boy’s smile arose so brilliantly at the first sight of the very special family heirloom, I glanced up at Connor’s father, Jason to see his reaction. Such love and pride was emitted from his countenance, knowing that what was once his for so many years, had safely returned to his son until perhaps a time in the far distant future when Connor himself might pass the precious family treasure down to the next generation as did his grandfather and father before him.
