Lost Ring Barefoot Beach, Florida

I was metal detecting on Barefoot Beach, Florida, wading where the water gets serious, chest deep. The ocean shifts the sand constantly, so I moved slowly, keeping my coil steady and working the disturbed edges where current tends to pull targets along.
I got a solid signal, this is the tone I’ve been waiting to hear! I pin point the target and position my Xtreme titanium scoop in place behind the coil. Two scoops down I had the target inside of my scoop.
Shaking my scoop in the water to release the sand, I was down to a few handfuls of shells. Sliding shells out of the front of my scoop, I had yet to discover the target. I dumped the remaining shells into my hand. Then, I felt something cold and heavy against my fingers.
When I pulled it up, it was immediately obvious it wasn’t junk: a 3-carat diamond ring made of 18K gold and platinum! Inside of the band I could see a distinct inscriptions.
As soon as I realized what it was, I stopped thinking like a hunter and started thinking like someone who might be missing it. I rinsed it carefully, took a few photos, and posted it to local lost & found / beach community groups, mentioning that it was found in chest-deep water and that the ring had inside inscriptions.
I didn’t want strangers guessing—so I asked people to describe the markings to confirm it.
Within a day, I got a message from the owner. They identified the inscriptions and confirmed the ring style. When we met, their relief was immediate, like the missing part of the day finally came back.
