Late Saturday night, I had just walked in the door when my phone rang. It was Matt calling from Long Beach Island (LBI), NJ. He explained that earlier in the day, around high tide, he had been fishing when his wedding ring slipped off into the ocean.

He was catching fish and doing well, and after releasing one, he stepped into knee-deep water to rinse his hands off. That’s when the ring came off and disappeared beneath the waves. Despite hours of searching, he couldn’t find it. Someone nearby on the beach told him to call me ASAP — that I was the one who could help.

At first, Matt didn’t believe it was even possible to recover the ring from the ocean. But he called anyway. I told him with confidence that if he had a good idea of where it fell off, there was a solid chance I could get it back.

He was absolutely sure about the location and had even dug a hole to mark the exact spot — smart thinking, especially since it was already dark and easy to lose orientation on the beach. I told him to stay put and that I’d be there within 30 minutes.

When I arrived, Matt, the beach property owner, and his son were all out there with flashlights. Matt showed me the crater-like hole he had dug to mark the spot. He was determined to not let this location get lost in the dark — that ring meant the world to him.

After reviewing what kind of ring it was and what metals it was made of, I adjusted my detector’s frequency and walked about 10 feet into the surf. The tide was already coming back in, and the sand was starting to cover everything again.

Within minutes — and about 6 inches deep in the sand — I got a strong signal and pulled up Matt’s wedding ring. You should’ve seen his face — he was in absolute shock. His son was just as amazed. We walked up to the dune crossover where his two daughters were waiting, and their jaws dropped when they saw the ring back in his hand.

This was a perfect example of how a quick phone call with accurate details can lead to a successful recovery — even when a ring is lost in the ocean.

If you lost a ring on the beach or in the water on Long Beach Island, Lavallette, Seaside Park, or anywhere along the Jersey Shore — don’t wait! Call me right away. The sooner I get the details, the better chance we have of getting your ring back.

Heirloom Ring Recovered on the Beach in Cape May – Lost in a Cupholder, Found with Precision

I received a call from Anthony, urgently requesting help to find his partner Ashley’s beautiful family heirloom ring that had gone missing during their beach day in Cape May, NJ.

He explained that while enjoying a sunny afternoon by the ocean, Ashley had removed the ring to apply sunscreen and placed it in the cupholder of her beach chair for safekeeping. After spending the day relaxing in the sand, they packed everything up and walked back to the house—only to realize the ring was gone.

They immediately retraced their steps, checked the beach, and searched the back of their truck where the chairs and other items had been loaded—but still no luck. That’s when Anthony reached out to me.

I had just finished signing papers with a realtor, so the timing couldn’t have been better. Within five minutes, we met at the beach and walked out to the area where they believed the ring had been lost.

I started a thorough search around the original location they had pointed out, but found nothing. That’s when Anthony mentioned they may have been set up a little closer to the water, and perhaps even 20 to 30 feet further north toward the middle of the beach. One of their friends who had been there that day helped narrow it down further.

I shifted my search to the new area—and within just a few minutes, I had a solid signal. Sure enough, Ashley’s heirloom ring was sitting in my scoop.

Ashley was overwhelmed with joy and relief. She truly didn’t think she would ever see that ring again. We shared a few words, smiles, and handshakes before parting ways—another successful recovery and a reminder that calling right away makes all the difference.
