Playing in corn pit results in three lost rings but ends as a happy recovery in Lino Lakes

During what was supposed to be a happy family outing, a young couple and their 1½-year-old child decided to have some fun in the corn pit. Unfortunately, three rings were lost in the process. Thankfully, two were recovered—one by the husband and, surprisingly, the second by their 1½-year-old child!

After an extensive search with no success, the couple decided to try recovering the remaining ring themselves using a rented metal detector. Unfortunately, their efforts came up empty.

They eventually made a phone call, and we arranged a time for me to come out and search for the missing ring.

Once I began searching the corn pit, it quickly became apparent why the rented metal detector had been unsuccessful. The concrete supporting the pit contained heavy steel rebar throughout its base, designed to support the weight of semi-trucks without sustaining damage. Adding to the challenge was the metal siding surrounding the exterior of the corn pit. All this metal created significant interference, making detection extremely difficult.

After nearly an hour of adjusting the detector, tuning out interference, and ruling out countless unwanted signals, I finally picked up a very faint signal that sounded different from all the others.

Carefully pinpointing the location, I began digging—and there it was! The missing ring was recovered!

This was, without a doubt, one of the most challenging ring recoveries I have ever completed due to the extreme metal interference. It took patience, persistence, and a lot of fine-tuning, but the reward of finding that lost ring made it all worthwhile. Another successful recovery and one more happy ending!
