Wedding band lost an hour after “I do.” Waterford, WI

  • from Menomonee Falls (Wisconsin, United States)

Statistics vary from 25% to 40%. This refers to the percentage of married men who’ve lost a wedding ring!

Sussex, Wisconsin resident, Jake Leonardelli, became part of this statistic about an hour after saying, “I do!” His marriage to Jordyn took place on Saturday, August 15th at the Halverson House wedding venue near Waterford. Shortly after the ceremony, the wedding party posed for photos in a tranquil country garden. Afterwards, as the group made their way to the celebration hall, Jake realized his wedding ring, given to him by his bride only an hour before, was missing! Despite the search efforts of family and friends, the ring eluded discovery. The couple left for their honeymoon minus Jake’s ring!

I received a phone call late that evening asking if I might help recover the missing love token. Todd, Jake’s father, met me on location a couple days later. He described the ring as gold. I calibrated my metal-detecting equipment to standard 14k yellow gold and began sweeping the garden area. No targets appeared in the conductivity range of gold and so I moved on down a laneway towards the celebration hall, following the route taken earlier by the wedding party. When nothing was found, I checked back with Jake’s father and asked if he could verify the ring’s metallic composition, this since other alloys can be gold in color but are not actual gold. A quick phone call confirmed the gold-colored ring was in fact made of Tungsten Carbide.

With this new information, I began sweeping the garden area again, taking careful note of signals in the conductivity range of Tungsten Carbide. About half way into the search, a shallow signal in the thick grass invited further investigation. Sure enough, nestled out of sight in the green turf was Jake’s wedding ring! And the smile on Jake’s father’s face tells the rest of the story!

If you or someone you know has lost a sentimental jewelry item, don’t let its story end. It’s more than a ring! Call me; I’d love to add another smile to my list of 178 people who are so glad they did!
