Oregon lost ring

The other evening, I received a message from Anthony saying “I’m pretty sure I lost my ring in Raleigh Park and I need help finding it.”

I wasn’t able to go search at that time, and being this is a public park, and time was essential to search, I suggested he contact the other local Ringfinder to see if he could come out immediately. I also told him if the other Ringfinder couldn’t help, I would go out the next morning and search.

A short time later, Anthony told me he left a message, but hadn’t heard back. He sent a Google image of the park, with a section circled where he and his wife had been playing with their dog. I let him know I would go out the next morning and do the search.

Arriving, I used the image to locate the right area. There is a Pickleball court on the lower section of the search area, so I was able to that fence as a reference for my grid search. The area was pretty clean, not counting the obligatory pull-tab. On the fourth pass, I hit a good high tone on the Manticore, but couldn’t see anything under the coil. Moving the grass with my foot, I saw the faint outline of a ring. I took a quick pic, then picked up what I had been looking for.
I sent Anthony a message telling him I thought I had found the right area to search. He replied asking if I had any luck. I said absolutely, and sent a picture of his ring.  He was in the middle of dealing with a pet emergency and was at the vet hospital, so couldn’t meet me. I told him I would do some metal detecting at some other parks in the area, and to let me know when we could meet to get his ring.

A bit later, I got his call and we met and I returned his ring.

Its always a happy day when I can return something, and make someone smile 😊

Wedding ring lost in an Oregon yard, found using a metal detector

Received a text earlier this week from Rob, informing me he had lost his platinum wedding ring in his friend’s yard in Molalla, Oregon. He had searched for it, crawling through the grass, and used a metal detector, but came up empty.

We were able to meet on the property the following Saturday. When I arrived, Rob was already out searching, but he walked me through his activities the night the ring was lost, and where he had been in the yard. He strongly believed he had lost the ring in a section of the yard near a pathway where he had given his buddy an enthusiastic “bro-hug” as they walked through the area. He also walked me through all the areas on the property he had been in that evening. He was sure the only thing he had done that evening out of the ordinary was his hug.

I decided to start searching the area along the left side of the pathway, considering the left hand is where you wear a wedding ring. My grid search found the area had lots of scrap aluminum, and some miscellaneous iron targets. Did pull out a nickel and a few bottle caps. I could also see Rob was searching around other places in the yard by hand.

Before leaving the area I was searching, I moved into the left side of the pathway. Great signal turned out to be a sprinkler head.  Than some foil. A few feet later I hit a scratchy sound, but VDI numbers on the Manticore that were perfect. Sweeping the other direction, the sound was still questionable, but the VDI and depth seemed perfect. Reaching down and moving the 3 inches of wet grass, I could see the ring 💍.

I went looking for Rob, who was in a lower section of the yard searching. I asked him to come up so I could show him the issues that had complicated the search. I ran the detector over a few targets, expelling they didn’t sound right, or were too deep. I then went over the spot where his ring was and told him that was it.
He dug through the thick wet grass and pulled out his ring.

Rob was super happy to have his wedding ring of 17 years back on his finger.

Wedding ring lost on Oregon beach, found with metal detector.

   On a Tuesday evening I received a text from David informing me he had just lost his gold wedding ring on a beach in Oregon, wondering if it was worth going to look.

I didn’t see the message right away, so when I replied with a request for a call, I didn’t hear back until the next morning, as he had already left, and was driving home.

We chatted on Wednesday morning about the situation. He said he was at the coast for a family gathering. While on the beach, he noticed his ring slipped partially off, since it was slightly too big. His wife offered to take it and put it in her bag, but he declined, thinking he could keep track of it. (Advice, listen to the wife). They had sifted through the sand by hand and not found it. He wasn’t optimistic it could be found, he just wanted to exhaust all options before he wrote it off.

David sent some pictures of the general area they had spent the day, which included some helpful landmarks. I told him I would head out early Thursday morning to do the search as quickly as possible.

I arrived before the beach got too crowded, finding the location in his photos, and began a circular search around the area of the fire. Finding nothing but aluminum scrap and iron signals with the Manticore, I began a grid search further out. On my fourth pass, I received a promising signal, and about 3 inches down in the dry sand, I found a gold ring. It certainly looked like the ring I was looking for, a two tone gold and rose gold band.
I sent a picture of the area, telling him I was pretty sure I had found the correct spot to search, not mentioning the ring. He replied saying it was the right spot, telling me to contact him with any questions.
I then sent a picture of the ring and asked “Does it look like this?” A short time later he replied with “Yes!!” and “You’re an absolute hero!” We discussed how to reunite him with his ring, and he said he would love to shake my hand. We agreed to meet at a local coffee spot a couple days later.

We met up, I handed him the ring, which he immediately returned to his finger.

It’s always a great feeling to help someone get back a treasured item they thought was lost forever.

Lost wedding ring found in Oregon creek

Late on Saturday evening I received a call from Tanner, asking if I could help finding his lost wedding ring. During an unexpected heat spell, he and his wife had gone to one of our beautiful Oregon parks to enjoy some cooling waters.
After their time there, he discovered his custom engraved Tungsten wedding ring was missing.

We exchanged a few texts and agreed to meet there on Sunday afternoon.
I loaded up my detectors, and my waders, and and headed for the park. I arrived earlier than our agreed upon time, so texted Tanner for more details on the possible location they had been in.
I began grinding the creek, working the pretty steady current. For a popular park, the creek bed was surprisingly clean, with just two pull-tabs found.

Shortly later, Tanner and his wife arrived and found me, probably because I was the only person in the water with a metal detector.
Turns out I was not in the right area.
They took me to the correct location, showing me where they had placed their chairs, and waded into the creek, adding a few more details about their activities.
Tanner told me it wasn’t until they were driving home when he noticed his ring was missing. They had resigned themselves the ring was gone, when Tanner’s wife did a google search about finding a lost ring, landing on Ringfinders.

In the correct spot, Tanner waded into the creek, and his wife was was on her hands and knees searching through the grass where they had placed their chairs. I used the Equinox to scan through the grass, and only got trashy signals, or deep ones.

I ventured into the creek, finding a pull-tab and a dime. A bit further upstream I got that sweet signal in my headphones, and in the knee deep water, there was the black Tungsten ring in the gravel of the creek bed. I called over to Tanner and pointed it out, and he immediately scooped it out of the water.

So happy to see a nice young couple reunited with a precious memory though lost forever.

Fast find on lost Oregon ring

So, late on Sunday evening I received a message from Kirill saying he was “quite desperately looking for a ring finder.” They had hosted a wedding event at their home the day before, and somehow during the event, his wife’s wedding ring went missing. The festivities occurred mainly on the outdoor deck, so he requested I come out and search below the the deck and in the grassy areas around it. He also suggested it could have ended up in the trash bags from the event, so maybe searching the trash bags was a possibility.

I was able to meet them the next afternoon. Preparing for an excursion under a deck, I loaded my detectors, gloves and knee pads, flashlights, and an endoscope camera.

When I arrived, the rental company was there loading up the tables and chairs from the event. I met up with Kirill, and he walked me up to the deck where they had the post wedding festivities. He pointed out where the tables and dance floor had been. He said he had reviewed the photos from the event, and the last time the ring was seen was in the area we were standing.

I asked him to describe the ring again, and he said it was white gold with a blue sapphire stone. I pointed down at the deck between us and said, “Like that?”
There, shining in the sunlight was a gleaming blue stone. The ring was caught in the gap between two of the deck boards.
Kiriill’s wife joined us and the ring was happily reunited with her finger.
He was certain he had checked the area of the deck. Perhaps it had been stuck on one of the tables or chairs the rental company had been removing that afternoon, or maybe a set of fresh eyes spotted it… regardless, a beautiful ring back where it belongs.
