Class ring lost for almost 50 years near Saint Paul, MN is now back with the family!

  • from Saint Paul (Minnesota, United States)

While doing some detecting for fun in the water, I found a gold 1965 class ring from Central High School in Saint Paul, MN. with the initials of ‘JSL’ inside the band.

I did some searching on the internet and Classmates.com was where I learned the owner’s full name.  After ‘googling’ his name,  I was sad to see that he had passed away one year prior.  This news made me realize that it was very important that I find the next of kin. I knew that it would mean a lot to them.

The obituary listed several family members and I was able to contact both the man’s wife and one of his sons, who both live in Idaho.  They said that Jeff had enlisted to serve our country right after high school and moved to Idaho immediately after his service – so he must have lost the ring shortly after high school back in 1965!

I was thrilled to talk to Jeff’s wife and her son, Ty; and I mailed the ring to them immediately.  Here is what Janet wrote to me:

« Reese, Ty and I want to thank you for returning Jeff’s class ring.  Such a kind and wonderful thing you do.  Jeff was very athletic through high school and college.  He was your typical gym rat.  Jeff earned his college degrees in Special Education.  He was a teacher & administrator for 37 years.  We have 2 sons –  Ty and Brady.  I am so grateful to have them in my life.  Thank you so much for your time and research into the rings origin, it’s a reminder that there are great, kind people out there. – Janet Lang »

Below are some pictures that Janet and Ty sent to me.  The first picture is of Janet and Ty.  The other two are of the ring with Jeff’s actual 1965 Central High School year book and the ring next to Jeff’s yearbook picture.

It was very evident to me that Jeff was deeply loved, respected and missed.

Not lost, but STOLEN 20 Gram Gold Ring in Hudson, WI – Now Returned to Owner!

  • from Saint Paul (Minnesota, United States)

I was doing some metal detecting for fun in a local lake swimming area last week when I found a big gold ring.  The ring said Oxygen Service on it and there were initials and a date inscribed inside the band.  I was pretty sure that I’d be able to find the owner, but I had no idea that this ring had such a tumultuous past.

I Googled ‘Oxygen Service’ to see what it meant and found that it was a local company that services the welding business.  That’s when I knew that the ring must have been someone’s service ring for working for the company.  So I called up the company, explained the situation and asked if there was anyone there with the same  initials that  engraved on the ring.  The person immediately knew who it was and put me right through to him.  That’s when I learned about how the owner lost the ring.

Steve’s home was burglarized some time in 2006 and several items were taken, including Steve’s gold company service ring.  Steve had long given up on ever getting the ring back because after the burglars were apprehended, they said that they sold the ring and there was no trace as to who had bought it.   But somehow, after 8 years, I found the ring in a roped off swimming area a few miles from Steve’s home.  We will never know how the ring ended up in 4 feet of water, but Steve and I were thrilled to see it back where it belongs.  On Steve’s finger!

Huge Gold Wedding Band Lost in St Paul, MN – Now Found!

  • from Saint Paul (Minnesota, United States)

A very nice gentleman in St. Paul realized that he was missing his large gold wedding band the evening after raking leaves in his back yard.  He and his wife searched everywhere for it several times, but came up empty handed.

3 days later, a buddy and I came out and went over his back yard inch by inch with a metal detector.  It was a tedious search with lots of leaves and planters and furniture on the ground.  Bits of foil and other metal objects were everywhere but after about an hour into the hunt, I got a loud low-conductive tone on my detector which turned out to be the big ring hiding under some leaves near the back door of the house.

Husband and wife were very happy to get their ring back and it was a wonderful experience for all of us!

Man’s wedding band lost in an Inver Grove, MN golf course – Now found!

  • from Saint Paul (Minnesota, United States)

I was out looking for old coins today in a park when I received an email from a gentleman who lost his wedding ring while looking for his golf ball at a local golf course.  He looked for it right after losing it but couldn’t find it.  We met as soon as he was able to get off work and after about five minutes of searching, we found it half buried in tall grass.  Credit goes to him for thinking through his moves and narrowing down the search area.  It was great to get that unique ring back to the owner.

Man’s engraved platinum wedding band lost in the lake in Seattle, WA – Now found!

  • from Saint Paul (Minnesota, United States)

A gentleman contacted me about losing his platinum wedding band 3 days prior while swimming in Lake Washington. He described the ring and where he lost it so I started to grid the area out going back in forth covering every square inch. After about 45 minutes, I gave him my cell number and asked him to send me a text so I’d be able to contact him in case he wanted to leave.

About a half hour later, I got a solid low-conductive tone in 3 feet of water. I looked down and saw the edge of the ring half-buried on the bottom. The gentleman had moved with his family to another area of the park, so I continued to hunt. When I saw him a ways off, I waved my arms and he took off running toward me.

You should have seen his face when he saw his ring! He immediately stuck it right back on his finger when I handed it to him. He and his wife were thrilled.

I got a call this afternoon from a gentleman who’s ring went flying off his finger while playing tetherball in his front yard with his daughter.  We searched the garden along the front of his house and found the ring under a very ‘bushy’ bush.

It was a great time for dad, daughter and me – especially because the ring was found!

Ring that was a gift from her Mother lost in some bushes in Redmond, WA – Now found!

  • from Saint Paul (Minnesota, United States)

I received an email from Cristina who was walking on a raised wooden walkway while putting on her silver ring that her Mother gave her when the ring slipped out of her hand and fell in between the boards.  We searched through sticker bushes and muddy grass for about 45 minutes until it was found about 5 inches from a chained link fence.  It’s a beautiful ring and Cristina was very happy to have it back on her finger.
