I received a message from Vince a couple weeks ago, asking if I could help find his fiancé s ring he had lost on the beach in Rockaway.
The ring was put in his hat for safekeeping, and placed on a large log where they had set-up for the day. At some point, he put on his hat, and the ring was gone.
It was almost a week since the loss, and he had acquired a metal detector, and returned to search for himself, but had no luck.
Vince sent me a map of the area, highlighting the log and the section of beach they had been on. He also sent photos of the of the ring, a 4.5 karat pink diamond in a rose gold setting.
I was able to drive out there the next morning, always wanting to get to a public place as soon as possible. I arrived early before too many people were on the beach, and found the large log he had described. Searching that area, I only found a couple of aluminum pull tabs.
I then began an east/west grid search of the area.
Again, more aluminum. Then I hit a faint but repeatable signal with good numbers. I kicked back the sand and saw nothing. Moved some more sand and saw a big, pink rock. Bingo!
I sent Vince a message telling him the ring was definitely not around the log he had thought he had lost it. I then sent a picture of the ring.
After several excited, we agreed to meet up in the PDX area to return the ring.
We met up and he told me he was going to wait for a bit and re-propose with the lost ring. I agreed to wait to post the details until after that.
Vince returned Sierra’s ring to her on her birthday. Sierra called me to express her appreciation for me returning the ring.
Returning something so special to people who thought was gone forever is better than any reward.
