Platinum Wedding Ring Lost In The Goose Rocks Beach Sand, Found With A Metal Detector In Kennebunkport, Maine

It was a picture-perfect summer day at Goose Rocks Beach (GRB) in Kennebunkport Maine. Brandon and his wife, Taylor, were soaking up the sun, enjoying the beautiful weather, and spending quality time with a great group of family and friends. It was the kind of beach day memories are made of—until it was time to pack up.

As the day wrapped up and the group started gathering their gear to leave, Brandon went to take his ring off. In a split second, disaster struck. The ring slipped, caught the air, and went flying off his finger, completely disappearing into the sand right in front of him!

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐕𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐒𝐇𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐀𝐂𝐓 𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐀𝐍𝐃

If you follow my page, you already know the golden rule: once a ring meets beach sand, it performs an almost impossible vanishing act. It settles instantly, blending perfectly into its new surroundings.

The entire group jumped into action. They searched and searched, sifting through the grains, but after a valiant and exhausting effort, they came up empty-handed. Feeling defeated, the group finally had to leave, leaving Brandon and Taylor behind to continue the frustrating search alone.

𝐀 𝐇𝐄𝐋𝐏𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐇𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐅𝐑𝐎𝐌 𝐊𝐄𝐍𝐍𝐄𝐁𝐔𝐍𝐊𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓’𝐒 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐒𝐓

Before leaving the area, a call was made to the Kennebunkport Police Department to officially report the lost ring and asking if there was anything they could do to help find the ring. That phone call turned out to be the best move they could have made! The responding officers gave Brandon and Taylor some incredible advice: “You need to reach out to The Ring Finders of Maine. They have great success finding rings on the beach.”

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐆𝐀𝐌𝐄 𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐍

Once off the phone with the police, Brandon called me up and explained what happened. As I always do, I started asking a few quick questions to build a mental map of the recovery zone: Where exactly on the beach? Was it in the water or the dry sand? What time did it happen? Did you see or feel it come off?

Brandon gave me the whole story. Because the ring was lost high up in the dry sand, I didn’t need to worry about checking the tide charts or racing a rising ocean. I told him Cheryl and I would load up and be there in 25–30 minutes, depending on the summer traffic.

𝐆𝐑𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐃 𝐙𝐄𝐑𝐎 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐓𝐇𝐄 « 𝐓𝐄𝐒𝐓 𝐑𝐔𝐍 »

When Cheryl and I arrived at GRB, Brandon met us promptly and walked us down to the now mostly empty beach. Taylor was still standing guard at the scene of the mishap, waiting and hoping.

Whenever I work with clients, I like to do a quick demonstration to build confidence. I take my own platinum wedding ring, throw it into the sand, and watch it completely disappear under the surface. Then, I swing my detector’s coil over the spot. I don’t normally wear headphones on these types of searches unless there’s heavy background noise. I want my clients to hear the target tone at the exact same moment I do!

When my detector let out a beautiful, loud, low tone over my hidden ring, Brandon and Taylor’s faces lit up. They heard the exact sound we were hunting for, reassuring them that the equipment works, everything is above board, and they had professional help on site.

𝐋𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐀𝐍 𝟏𝟎 𝐒𝐄𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐃𝐒?! 𝐔𝐍𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐋!

Brandon showed me exactly where he had been standing when the ring took flight. I could see the area straight out from his position where the group had spent hours searching. I mapped out the strategy and told the couple I would perform a meticulous grid search, moving north to south, parallel to the shoreline.

I set up to start the grid right where I had just thrown my own test ring. I turned on the machine, took my very first two steps, and swung the coil.

BANG!

The detector screamed with the exact same loud, low tone and Target ID that my own platinum ring had just produced. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! Could I really have just found Brandon’s ring less than two feet from my test spot in less than 10 seconds?

I reached for my pinpointer, located the exact target deep in the sand, and pulled out Brandon’s platinum wedding ring. UNREAL!!!!

𝐑𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐄𝐅, 𝐒𝐌𝐈𝐋𝐄𝐒, 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐄𝐗𝐓𝐑𝐀 𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐂𝐈𝐀𝐋 𝐍𝐄𝐖𝐒

Immediately, Brandon and Taylor broke out into huge relief smiles! Handshakes and big emotional hugs ensued right there on the sand. The heavy weight of a lost heirloom vanished in an instant, replaced by pure joy.

But the celebration didn’t stop there. With the ring safely recovered, the happy couple broke some absolutely beautiful news to us: They are expecting their first child this upcoming November!

On top of that, they are looking forward to celebrating their second wedding anniversary this September, less than two months away. Now that Brandon has his precious wedding ring back on his finger, this sweet couple is just ecstatic and feels completely whole again.
