Lost Platinum Tiffany Engagement ring taken back from West Twin Lake in Lewiston, Mi with a metal detector

This adventure started with a call from Sue about her daughter-in-law Rachel loosing her engagement ring in west Twin Lake in Elsworth Mi while on vacation. Her Daughter-in-law was floating on a tube and the diamond caught on the tube and got pulled off her finger. They had taken a pontoon out to the a sandbar on the lake and anchored to let the kids play.

I arranged to go to the location after work. Even thought this is a small lake in a small town I did not want to take a chance on another detectorist getting the ring before I could find it. The drive up was an hour and a half, so I ended getting to the location at 7:30 pm. I had about 3 hours light before it got dark. Sue had sent me a hand drawn picture of the approximate location they were at. I took my boat out to the location and started a grid search of the area. I was noticing not very many foot prints in the area. I searched about an hour with no luck. I called Sue from the lake trying to get a better location. She ended up sending me a bunch of pictures, but due to bad cell service only 3 came through. One of the pictures I could line up a line of sight and get an approximate location. I got to the new area and was finding the water to deep compared to the picture. After an hour grid searching I came across a small little gravel hump about 3 feet across. I knew at that point this was the spot I was looking for. About 30 seconds later I got the nice sweet tone I was looking for and it was the ring. Sue and the rest of the family were back down state about 4 hours. I had to go down state the following weekend. Sue came to my location to get the ring. She gave it back to her daughter-in-law for her birthday on 8-3-21.

Here is the text from Sue after returning the ring.

« It is with much thanks and appreciation for all the help of Clare in finding my daughter in laws ring that was lost while she was on vacation . His compassion patience and kindness in finding the ring made my daughter in laws birthday surreal . I can’t say enough about TheRingFinders ».

I thank Sue for trusting me to find this valuable ring and the generous reward.

  • from Traverse City (Michigan, United States)

This short adventure started with a call from Nate. He stated he lost his Wedding ring in the sand at a private beach. He was sitting in a chair and noticed his ring missing. Nate was not available to meet me at the location but his Wife Erica was able to.

I meet Erica at the location she took me to the spot on the beach that Nate was sitting. I turned on the CTX3030 started to scan a circle around the chairs. After walking about 3 feet I got a nice solid 12.30 on the CTx3030. Sifted through the sand with my pinpointer and found the ring. It took about 30 seconds.

Ring and Pendant found in Higgins Lake, Michigan with a metal detector

This call started over text. I get a text at 8:00 pm « I need your help I found you on google » « Ur a ring finder right » « you can like find rings in water »?

This went on for 30 minutes then I got impatient and called the number. I got no answer so I texted « why are you not answering the phone if you need help ». Then get a response, I’m 15 turning 16 tomorrow I thought you would want to talk to an adult. Yes,Yes,Yes I would love to talk to an adult. Then Marissa texted her mothers phone number to me. I called Melissa and got the details of what had happened. Marissa was trying to pull herself up on a dock and the necklace she was wearing got caught and broke. The silver pendant and a ring she inherited from a close uncle fell in the water below. Marissa was devastated thinking she lost the ring for ever. By this time it was 9:00 pm so I told Melissa we needed to wait till the following morning to recover the ring and pendant in the daylight. They were 1 hour travel from me and it was getting dark fast. I asked Melissa to text me an address to the house.

I waited 1/2 hour for the address and it was not coming. I texted Melissa to remind her about the address. I needed it before I went to bed to see where they were located. She said Marissa was having a very hard time and could not settle down. I told Melissa I could talk to her I have 17 and 15 year old girls. She said that would be great she is trying to get ready for Marissa’s birthday the next day. I called Marissa with my magical powers. When I start talking about metal detectors and sand scoops girls/women just fall asleep. I did such an good job after I found the pendant and ring Melissa could not wake Marissa up. She about had to pry her out of bed with a crow bar. I showed Marissa the ring and pendant and she was very happy to get them back. She said it helped me talking to her the night before and explaining they were not gone I could find them.

Lost Wedding ring found at Glen Arbor Beach Glen Arbor, Michigan

  • from Traverse City (Michigan, United States)

I received an email from Mary stating her husband lost his wedding ring at the beach in Glen Arbor. I had Mary call me to set up a time to search for his ring after I got out of work. I drove the hour up to Glen Arbor and met Josh. Josh took me to the spot they were set up the day before. I could tell Josh was heartbroken that the ring was missing. He said they have been married 6 years and he did not want a replacement ring, he wanted the original back. I started the search and got an immediate 12:06 on the CTX3030. A good ring number but also a pull tab number. The depth meter was showing 6 inches deep. I got my pin pointer out and realized I forgot to put a new battery in it. So, I pinpointed with the CTX3030 then started digging by hand. I dug down to the wet sand and got the signal out of the hole pinpointed again and found the ring. Josh was so grateful to get his ring back he must have thanked me 20 times. I was very happy to help get his original ring back and appreciate the reward.

Lost ring found in Crystal Lake Benzie County, Michigan

  • from Traverse City (Michigan, United States)

Received a call from Max on Friday he had lost his Platinum wedding band in Crystal Lake on Wednesday. He was on the lake for a day of fun boating with the family. He was throwing a football and swimming just having a relaxing day. They had pulled the boat up on a sand bar in 4 feet of water about 50 yards off shore. The next morning he noticed his ring was missing.

I met him at the closest spot to the location on shore. He got permission to cross private property for me to get to the search area. The search area was very large and not having an exact spot the boat was anchored. Plus the wind was blowing directly into the shoreline with waves about 1 to 1 1/2 foot high and winds 15-20 mph. Max had to fly home the next day back to California and wanted to try to get the ring before flying back home. The boat was anchored in water about 4 feet deep. He pointed me in the direction of the area they anchored the boat in. Searched the area for 3 hours and the waves were growing. After the second wave went over my head, I decided to stop for the night and wait till the winds either died down or change direction. Called Max back and told him the plan and he did not want me to go back he was happy with my effort. I was not happy yet till the area had been completely searched.

Waited till Sunday and the wind was blowing off shore and the surface was calm.  I had asked Max to text me any pictures the group had facing the shoreline. In the background of one of the pictures, I noticed a small pine tree lining up with a window frame on a house. On the other side of the picture in the background the land owners property I had to cross had a boat on a lift. The support for the canopy lined up with the windshield on the boat. I used those 2 points to triangulate a starting boat position. Max had stated he was in an area about 100 foot circle around the boat.  So, I started the second search from the area I could not get to Friday due to the waves. I used snowplow stakes to mark a grid area and found the ring about 20 feet away from the Triangulated spot I had marked.

Shipped the ring to Max in California and I’m happy to help out.
