Ring Lost While Raking Leaves, South Haven, MI

  • from Holland (Michigan, United States)
Bob was raking and burning leaves on his property about a week ago and his ring came up missing. I called Tom Cleary to help me and we arrived Monday morning. Bob showed us the most likely area where he may have lost the ring which included about 100ft on each side of the trail leading to the back of his property. About 20 minutes into the search I got a good hit next to a burn pile and there was the ring hiding under a leaf. We called Bob over and gave him the pinpointer to check this spot and he recovered his ring. The ring had a few ashes on it but it looks like it was dropped after the fire was out. Another fun day with a good result.

Wedding Ring Found In Backyard, Holland, MI

  • from Holland (Michigan, United States)

Rebekah sent me a text and stated she was playing with her dog in the backyard and by pushing him back between her legs she thinks her ring flew off. They went and rented a metal detector but did not find the ring. I met Kevin, her husband, at the door and he showed me where she was standing when she thinks the ring was lost. Kevin goes back into the house and on the second sweep I find the ring about 3 ft from where she had been standing. It was deep down in the lush green grass and very well hidden. I knocked on the door again showing Kevin the ring and he nearly crushed me with a bear hug. They have been married for 2 years and added to the family with the arrival of August. Smiles all around and what a way to brighten your day.

Ring Found in Richland, MI

Jagadeesh and Paige have only been married for 6 months and he lost his wedding ring yesterday at Gull Meadow Farms. I met them and their nephew Felix at the site this morning before it was open so we could search for the ring. Searching for the ring took longer than expected. We found 2 junk rings, a stick earring and 2 quarters before the sweet sound of gold came up on the detector. Paige did the honor of digging for the ring and came up with the ring about 6 to 8 inches deep in the shelled corn. High fives and smiles for everyone.

A little dispute with the neighbor on where the property line is so Dave gave me a call to come and find the boundary stake.  About 5 minutes and the stake is found.  Hope this will repair the relations with the neighbor.

Ring Found in Corn Pit at Gull Meadows Farm, Richland, MI

  • from Holland (Michigan, United States)

I received a text from Steve saying his daughter had lost her ring in the corn pit on their family outing at this fun park. They had returned home and were sitting around the house when Enza burst out in tears. They were all wondering what happened to her when she said, « my ring is gone ». She had received the silver ring on her 10th birthday in July of this year. Steve and I arranged a time to meet on Monday afternoon which worked out well because the fun park is closed on Monday’s and we had the whole corn pit by ourselves with the owners permission. Steve met me there and Enza could not be there because she was in school. He showed me a couple of spots about 10 ft square where she had been playing and checking the first spot I found nothing. Second spot I got a faint signal right away and gave Steve the pinpointer to check that spot. He couldn’t find anything so I continued on but then came right back to recheck that spot. We started to dig down in the almost 2 ft deep of shelled corn to retrieve that target and finally had it out of the hole. I scanned the top of the corn pile we dug out and got a good hit. I told Steve to check that spot right there and he reached in and there was the ring. Somebody must have stepped on the ring because it was almost on the bottom. About 5 minutes and we had the ring. Steve said when he got home that Mom surprised Enza by holding out 2 hands and having her pick one, second try she got the big surprise. It never gets old doing this!!

RING FOUND AT OVAL BEACH, SAUGATUCK, MI

  • from Holland (Michigan, United States)

Received a phone call from Ola at 6 PM that her husband lost his wedding ring on the beach sand at Oval Beach. By 7:30PM I had the ring in my scoop. She had left the beach to return home to Chicago and could not meet me there. Only info she gave me was they were sitting on the beach near the number 8 buoy. Arrived at the beach and started to grid the area in front of the 8 buoy. On my third pass I found the ring. Pictures show the detector and my scoop at the spot where the ring was found. She gave me her address and the ring will be in the mail for her. She did have good info, the picture of the buoy out in the water is number 8.

RING LOST IN HOLLAND, MI

  • from Holland (Michigan, United States)

Received a text from Christa stating she lost her wedding ring this morning in her front yard. Arrived early afternoon and she told me the story of they were having a birthday party for her 3 yr old son and she was playing with the kids in the front yard when she felt her ring fly off. Losing the ring kind of put a damper on the party. She was in the grass area to the left of the driveway and that is when her ring came off. She had searched that grass area and the driveway and the street but had no luck finding the ring. I set out searching that grass area and came up with no ring. I told her the ring is not in this grass area and I said, « did you search on the right side of the driveway in the grass area »? She walks over to that side of the driveway and in about 10 seconds she spots the ring in the grass about three feet from the driveway. She beat me to it. The birthday party is back on in full swing!

PHONE FOUND AT MILLENNIUM PARK, Grand Rapids, MI

  • from Holland (Michigan, United States)

My daughter-in-law, Abby, saw a FB post from a lady losing a phone and gave this lady my phone number. Sammy gave me a call and said her brother had lost his phone while standing on the deck/pier that juts out into the lake. Sammy could not meet me there so I went to take a look at the spot where he lost it. The spot where he dropped the phone from the deck has only about 6 inches of water and is right next to the shore. Water is muddy and the phone is not in sight. There is a rule of no metal detecting in the park so I went looking for a park ranger and he came back with me and I showed him where the phone was lost. He said I will give you 30 minutes to find it with a metal detector but don’t let anybody see you using it. It took me about 15 minutes and nobody came in sight of me. Found it right next to that fishing bobber and it was still working. Gave Sammy a call about finding the phone and delivered it to her house on my way home. Sammy said her brother was afraid to tell his mother that he lost the phone so he confided with Sammy to help him. We saved little brother’s butt!

RING FOUND AT VAN BUREN STATE PARK, South Haven, MI

Dave and Gabby are on vacation from their home in Chicago and camping at the park. Yesterday they were on the beach and Dave took off his hat, put his ring in the hat and then went swimming. He came back, grabbed his hat and forgot about the ring. The ring went flying and they spent about 45 mins looking for it with no luck. They were just married in May of this year and I asked him if he was in the doghouse. His comment was, not yet, but I think it probably depends on what happens today. I met Dave in the parking lot this morning and we had a long walk to the beach. He had marked the area on the beach where it happened with a big tree branch. He showed me the area of not more than 10ft square where he thought the ring must be and I am thinking this is too easy. I took two swings with the detector coil and hit the sweet sound of gold. I knew right away this was his ring so I gave him the pinpointer and let him do the honor of digging up the ring. The look on his face was amazing and he was shocked at how fast we found it. Saved another vacation from disaster. Somehow doing this never gets old!!

RING FOUND AT OVAL BEACH, Saugatuck, MI.

  • from Holland (Michigan, United States)

Julia and her husband Dave are vacationing in western Michigan this week from their home on the eastern part of the state. She was at the concession stand and took her ring off and put it in a side pocket on her purse. She then headed down the deck walkway to the beach where they sat on the beach. Hours later she looked in the pocket for her ring and it was not there-pocket was not fully closed. I met Dave at the beach and we started off down the walkway and then searched in the sand down the dune to where they were sitting on the beach. Searched about a 20 ft x 20 ft area where they were sitting with no luck. Headed back up the sandy dune toward the walkway again and searched that area more thoroughly finding a penny, a tent stake and a pull tab. I gave Dave the pinpointer and he was checking and finding all of the targets. Just about ready to give up but decided to search the edges of the deck walkway where the sand had blown up. The walkway has large gaps between the boards but the sand has blown up along the edges so I started to search that edge. With all the nails and bolts in the deck this was not an easy task. Toward the top of the walkway the deck turns into concrete but still has the wooden fence. Now the concrete has rebar in it and there are still nails and bolts in the fence. Just by chance I notice a slight change in the noise coming from the rebar and the nails and I had Dave check this one spot next to the fence.
He stuck the pinpointer in that spot and THERE WAS THE RING!! Dave said he remembered Julia stopping at that fence and taking a picture of the beach and the lake below. Pressing her purse up against the fence was enough to dislodge the ring from the little pocket. Now they can enjoy the rest of their vacation. Sometimes you just get lucky.
