My wife and I are so thankful to Sean Kelly for recovering my wedding ring... (2024)
Hi Sean,
I wanted to thank you again for locating and recovering my lost wedding ring. I would like to offer a small gesture of my appreciation by leaving a review testimonial for other future unfortunate people that lose something special, that are fortunate to come across your information on Ring Finders.
A annual summer 4th of July party at my wife's best friend's parent's lake house on Bunganut Lake in Lyman ME went from an awesome celebration, to a nightmare. After applying sunblock on my kids and swimming for a couple hours, I was sitting on the dock and realized my wedding ring was gone. I never felt it come off so it could be anywhere in the area surrounding the dock that I had been swimming in. With no goggles, the search was a bust.
After a sleepless night running the entire afternoon through my head tracing every spot I swam and rock I sat on, I knew I had to go back and search again. So I gathered goggles, snorkel, fins, and purchased underwater flashlights. Being over 2.5 hours away the next opportunity to return was a month later. I free dived down and searched around until I was blue in the face, with no luck.
Our friend's father informed me that the lake dam is opened the end of the Fall and the water level drops a couple of feet so I had hope to return once more and give it a final go. In preparing for it I realized the water temp would be very cold and be an issue. I realized I needed a better plan if there was a chance of getting my wedding ring back. I searched for metal detecting and scuba diving and found the Ring Finders website. This was the turning point of my luck!
I reached out to Sean Kelly and he called me right back. We realized he was 115 miles away, but he said it didn't matter and would come out anyway and even offered to go out right away. I mentioned we were planning to go up there the following Sunday and that I could better explain the area I swam and the higher probability areas. Sean was able to come and meet us there that Sunday to search. I could tell Sean was a nice guy that was passionate about searching for treasure and the joy of reuniting people with their lost, cherished items.
Sean pulled up two minutes after we arrived with all of his scuba gear and top of the line metal detecting equipment. I was very optimistic of the search and showed Sean the dock and whereabouts of my swimming area. We soon realized one difficulty in this search was the lower section of the floating dock had already been taken in for the season, so gauging the locations was now compromised in addition to now murkier water. Sean pointed out another complication which was the very large boulders and rocks that could allow the ring to slide into a crevice at the bottom and be difficult to not only get a reading with the detector, but also having to potentially move the big boulders. Sean ensured me that we would move these boulders one way or another if we had to, and I could tell he was serious.
Sean got geared up and jumped right in. After over an hour of canvasing a grid pattern of the areas I was pointing out and giving reference to, Sean came to the dock needing to replace his air tank. He maintained hope and perseverance. As we approached the second hour Sean was going back over the areas a 2nd and 3rd time and was probing around all of the boulders with his smaller handheld detector to get into tighter areas that his larger precision detector couldn't access. Just as I was beginning to lose hope and was going to tell Sean that he gave a valiant effort and that I didn't want him to waste any more of his time and oxygen tank continuing, knowing he had a long drive back home. I know he wouldn't have gave up however, as he was determined to find it. He then got a hit under the edge of a massive 5 ft boulder, It turned out to just be a piece of wire. But his detector continued to ping on something, he searched and probed around further and bingo, he pulled out my wedding ring!
Sean never gave up on the search, and was determined to find my ring. Afterwards we relaxed for a little and ate some pizza and I got to know Sean more. Sean is a genuinely kind and friendly person. He is the sort of person that goes out of his way to help a stranger out, as that is exactly what he did for me. Giving up an entire Sunday to come and help out a stranger. He isn't doing it for money as he doesn't charge anything more than gas money to come out. He is simply passionate about metal detecting and being able to help people out. His experience and detecting skills is evident with my ring back on my finger. Sean's character and helping nature is top tier. My wife and I are so thankful to Sean Kelly for recovering my wedding ring. I know exactly who to call if something like this ever happens to me and anyone I know.
Thank you so much again Sean!

Super friendly and such a life saver... (2021)
After my fiancé fought with me about bringing the ring with me on vacation. I was sledding down a hill with my siblings and lost my engagement ring mid storm, I spent 3 days with a metal detector trying to find it myself with no luck, I found a YouTube channel with this website and found Sean. He found it in what seemed like literally under an hour!! He even came at night right before a big storm. Super friendly and such a life saver right before Christmas!! So thankful for him coming out!

Again, massive thank you and recommendation for Sean Kelly and The Ring Finders! (2021)
A massive thank you and praise for Sean! Firstly, a passionate and dedicated military veteran whose mission nowadays is the search and rescue… of your ring. Secondly, Sean is well equipped and thorough; it’s also really fascinating to hear how he does underwater recoveries! But honestly, if it can come off, take it off, before the beach or boat…Finally, Sean has the professionalism and comfortability of a long-time friend. I only wish the day was warmer and we could’ve chatted longer!
Again, massive thank you and recommendation for Sean Kelly and The Ring Finders! You rock! Keep on Ringing and Pinging!

Sean truly was our hero... (2020)
I had told Sean in my initial e-mail reaching out to him that I didn’t know this league of superheroes existed, meaning The Ring Finders. He joked that not all heroes wear capes, and that some wear oxygen tanks and use metal detectors. Only it was not a joke at all, because Sean truly was our hero.
After losing my husband’s wedding band in the lake in front of my parent’s house on Father’s Day, I was sure we’d be able to find it in the 6ft of water there. Snorkel masks, rakes, and a cheap underwater metal detector and flashlight did not stand a chance in the deep muck, murky water, and long grass. Not to mention I was 36-37 weeks pregnant and my efforts were limited by my buoyancy!
My husband tried, our friends and family tried, and even the neighbors took a shot at finding the ring. One of the neighbors told us about The Ring Finders. I was skeptical because it had been three weeks since we lost the ring, but I was desperate for some skilled help, and some closure if nothing else.
With only one diver in the entire state of Maine, I was worried that the distance would deter him. As soon as we met, I realized quickly that there isn’t much that deters Sean’s passion for reuniting people with their rings.
Sean was positive, kind, funny, and professional with every interaction. He kept us in the loop of his thought process and what his next strategy was whenever he came up for a quick break to relocate or to change his oxygen tank.
This man went through almost 4 tanks of oxygen and about 8 hours underwater over the course of two days. When his usual spot for refilling oxygen tanks was unexpectedly closed, he even drove out of his way to Brunswick for before returning on the second day.
His determination was unwavering and his optimism and creativity kept us hopeful. Late afternoon/early evening on Day 2, Sunday 7/19/20, Sean surfaced with an old pull tab AND OUR LOST RING that had been buried in the muck next to it.
We all cheered and jumped for joy! My husband has his ring back (yes it’s being resized smaller as we speak) and we have a new epic story of heroic perseverance to tell our son (due any day now) someday, all thanks to Sean!
We can’t thank him enough for his time away from family, many hours at the cloudy/grassy bottom of the lake, and for finding our ring!

Sean Kelly is a miracle worker! (And a very nice guy, too) (2019)
Sean Kelly is a miracle worker! (And a very nice guy, too)
I will be forever thankful for people like Sean Kelly! I recently lost my gold/platinum wedding band in about 5 feet of salt water while swimming off my sister’s dock in Northport, Maine. I had recently lost weight, so it was a bit loose on my finger. When my hand went into the ice-cold water, the ring came right off. I tried diving for it for about 40 minutes, but only managed to stir up the sand on the bottom. I thought it was gone forever. My brother went to Google and found The Ring Finders website, and saw that Sean Kelly was located quite near Northport. He came out the very next day with his scuba gear and his positive attitude. He had checked the tide table for our location, and surveyed the scene off the dock. Then he went under and got to work. After surfacing about 4 times bringing up a lot of metal debris that was interfering with his metal detector, I was beginning to lose hope. But he told me not to lose hope, and he was determined to continue searching. The next time he surfaced, he had my ring! He said he found it a few minutes after saying an underwater prayer to St. Anthony (the patron saint of lost items). Sean is a real professional, and he is passionate about what he does. He obviously enjoys seeing the smile on your face when you realize he recovered something you thought was gone forever. Thanks, Sean!

Sean was awesome! He worked tirelessly until he found the ring (2019)
While boating with friends, my wedding band & engagement ring went flying off my finger when I tried to swat a fly away from my face. Thankfully the engagement ring landed on our friend’s boat which was tied up next to us, but the wedding band was gone. We searched our boat and our friends, we weren’t even sure it landed in the water but my husband jumped in anyway to look for it, nothing. The next day we went back and my husband spent over two hours snorkeling trying to find it, no luck. After contacting our insurance agent we confirmed that it was fully covered but we didn’t want another ring, we wanted that one.
I found Sean Kelly from TheRingFinder.com on line, located in Rockport over 100 miles away, I wasn’t even sure he would travel to Rangeley but thankfully he did. Sean and his wife Darcy drove nearly three hours to help us.
The ring was in 6-8 feet of water, the bottom was really silty, it took very little movement and visibility was almost completely gone. Given the size of the ring, the conditions and the amount of time that had passed (a week by the time we found Sean and he was able to come to our rescue) I really didn’t think it could be found but I knew we had to try, it was our Hail Mary.
After an hour of searching, Sean came back to the boat for a second tank of air, a short rest and back into the water he went. Visibility was near zero due to the silty bottom, we could tell he was having a difficult time keeping his bearings but he was persistent.
Nearing the second hour, I had pretty much given up hope and was resolved that my ring was gone forever. I started putting things away, preparing for the trip back to camp, and trying not to cry. But then Sean swam back to our boat, held out his hand and showed me my wedding band, I didn’t even try to hold back the tears. I think I was just as shocked to see it again as the day I lost it.
Sean was awesome! He worked tirelessly until he found the ring and was invested in the search as much as we were. You can tell this is very personal for him, and his family. His wife couldn’t wait to call their daughter and let her know her Dad had found the wedding ring. We are so grateful and thankful to Sean, and his family who are so supportive, we could not have done it without him.
If you lose something, first don’t panic. Second find some way to mark the location as best you can (my husband used gps, and took a photo of the shore line). Next, contact Sean! Oh, and DO NOT post on social media, let the professionals get there first!

If you ever happen to lose something you are in great hands with Sean!!! (2018)
Sean we cant thank you enough for helping us out! When you are so stressed from losing something so valuable you are rarely thinking clearly. We all started searching the lake for hours until it got dark which caused the ring to go deeper into the sand making it impossible to find without your help. Luckily we came into contact with you and its unbelievable how quickly you were able to get out there and how soon you were able to find the ring.
For anyone who has lost something Sean was extremely responsive and is just such a genuinely nice and honest person. It was a long drive for him and he made it a priority to come out the next morning (we spoke at 1 am) because we were planning to leave back to New Jersey. If you ever happen to lose something you are in great hands with Sean!!!

Thank you Sean Kelly from the very bottom of my heart. (2018)
I will be forever grateful to Sean Kelly for finding my wedding ring. I was devastated, hopeless, and quite positive that I would never see or wear my most valued possession again. We were far north camping with family on vacation when Mr Kelly left the message that my ring was found – he wanted us to enjoy vacation
