Nicholas called wondering if I could come out and locate his wife’s lost engagement ring. She had lost it in some very tall grass on a small hillside, and he was unable to find it. I told him I would come and do a search for him, gathered my equipment, and was on my way.

When I got there Nicholas was waiting for me. He was able to explain how the ring was lost, and was able to narrow down the area where it might have gone. The grass was fresh, and pliable so I was able to sweep the coil to lean the grass over, and get as close to the ground as possible. It took only about 10 minutes to find the ring, and when I showed Nicholas, he was very happy knowing the ring was safe for his wife of only about 6 months. It was great knowing that something that was thought lost forever was able to be reunited again.

I received a call from Jane on a rainy Sunday night about a lost ring. She and a friend had been at the beach, and decided to go in the water, but wisely removed her ring before going in and placed it with her belongings. When she came out of the water she picked up her things forgetting about the ring, and by that time the ring had vanished in the soft sand. I let her know I would come right away, so she said that she would wait.

When I found them they were waiting near the slope down to the water with a light rain coming down, and I could see next to them a large square area of disturbed sand where they had been searching for the ring. I asked Jane exactly what happened, and exactly where the loss probably occurred, and got a bit of disagreement between her and her friend about the where. Although the area was large, I decided to begin in the middle, and work out one side, and then the other. I began my grid, and about halfway into the first pass got a very strong signal and scooped the sand. I checked the hole, and knew that whatever it was, it was now in the scoop. As I shook the scoop to rid it of the sand I felt something heavy. When looking in after the sand was gone, I saw a very large gold ring just as Jane described. I held it up for her, and she and her friend were astonished that it was right in the middle of where they had searched, but were unable to find it. She was very happy to have it back, and I was thankful to be of help.

Raj went for an early morning swim at the beach, and so to hide his key fob while he was in the water, he put it in a Ziplock bag, and buried it beneath his towel. His problem occurred when in a hurry to get back to his car, he grabbed the towel, and rushed to the parking lot. When he called, I let him know I would come right away because I know the county uses very good cleaning machines on that beach.

When I got there Raj met me, and took me out to the area of the loss. He wasn’t specifically sure of the exact location, so I asked him to mark off a generous area to search, and if I needed to expand the area I would. The area was fairly large, but I commenced my grid going pass by pass slow and sure to cover every inch of sand. I kept working, and then about halfway through, on the outer edge of his line, I found the fob. He was surely happy to know he could get on to his work with no delay. I was happy to be of help.

Olga contacted me explaining that she had lost her wedding ring in ice plant outside her beach front home. It seemed like a search that should be done right away, so we made arrangements to do the search that day.

When I arrived Olga took me to the back of the house, and showed me where the ring had gone; the ice plant was thick. She then showed me how she believed the ring got there, and where she believed it probably was. I proceeded to search in the area she showed me with no luck. I expanded out in the direction she had shown, and continued in that direction; nothing. I was going to go in a different direction, but she insisted I continue looking where she thought it had gone. I have found over the years that sometimes our spacial view of things can be a bit skewed when we see things, and especially when all things look the same, as in a very large mat of ice plant. After finishing the requested area search, I convinced her to allow me to search in the other direction, and within minutes I found her ring. We know as Ringfinders, that searching « out of the box » can result, in many occasions, in a successful recovery. Olga ended up pleased with my request.

When Carol contacted me, she told of losing her ring in the bushes in her front yard. It had happened the day before, but knowing it was in her yard the chances of someone coming across it was very slim, so we arranged a search for the next day.

I got to Carol’s house at the appointed time and she came out to show me what had happened. She had been standing on her porch while some friends were leaving, and then waved. With a flick of the wrist, her ring flew off of her finger, and into the plants adjacent to the porch. There were some thick plants, and some ground cover, but well groomed, and not a lot of leaves under them. She showed me how the ring came off, so I began the search in the most obvious area. I looked all the way out to the neighbor’s fence, not really knowing how hard the wrist flick was, but wasn’t having any luck. Having exhausted all the far away possibilities, I began moving closer to the porch until I was at the last plant nearest the porch. This plant was very dense with vertical leaves, so I used my pin pointer to poke into the deep chambers of the stalks. I got one good signal, and ended up with a construction screw. I continued on, receiving another signal. It was deep down inside the plant. I couldn’t see what it was, but my pin pointer was not letting me down. I kept probing, and moving the stalks around, and then there it was; I had found Carol’s ring. I let her know right away, and she was very happy to have it back. Another great recovery!

Eva called saying she had lost two rings. She called immediately after realizing they were gone, and I let her know that I would come as soon as possible knowing that time is the enemy of a successful search.

When I got to the beach Eva said that she had not moved from the area where she believed the rings were lost, and I could see the search grid that she had already been made looking for them. I donned my equipment, and began my search, and it wasn’t long before I had one of her rings in the scoop. I knew the other wasn’t far away. A couple more swings of the detector, one more scoop of sand, and Eva’s second ring was found. She was very happy to have them back again. Her smile tells it all.

When Charles called, he told me he had lost his wedding ring while playing volleyball at the beach the day before. He was at work, and would be unable to meet me at the spot, so I asked if he would send me a map of the area showing where to search, and I would go immediately to try and insure a successful recovery. He was able to send everything, so I was on my way.

I got there, and noticed that the beach cleaning machines had gone over one side of one of the two courts in the area, which caused a bit of worry. I began searching going over the untouched side of the court, then began on the side where the machine went through. There was about 6-7 feet of sand that was not cleaned, and in that narrow bit of sand I found Charles’ ring. I sent him a picture, and let him know that I would drive it to him, because his business was close. He was very happy to have it back again.

I received a call from Mary whose friend had lost a piece of jewelry while participating in a beach volley ball tournament. While going for the ball he hooked the chain holding the pendant, and it disappeared in the sand. I told her I would leave right away.

When I got there people were everywhere, and games going on in every court. It seemed an impossible task to do a search, but I was able to find Mary. She told me that it was believed to be lost on the perimeter of the court, so while the game was in play I ducked in and out of the court to detect. Finally the game ended, and I had a few minutes before the next one began to search some more. Then under the perimeter line I got a signal, dug with my scoop, but nothing came up. I was still getting a good signal, but nothing. Then I noticed something fall from my scoop on the next dig, and reached down to retrieve it. It was the pendant. Mary was happy, and her friend who had stared his new game gave me a quick handshake.

Eric called having lost his wedding ring the day before, hoping I would be able to find it for him. When he told me the beach he had lost it at, I told him that this was one of the cleanest beaches in the Southern California area because the county cleans the beach daily with very good machines. I could tell he needed closure, and we agreed to meet that day.

When I got there Eric met me and we walked out to the area he believed he lost the ring. As we walked out the sand was smooth as could be from the machines going over the sand that morning which wasn’t a good sign. We got to the spot which was near the slope to the water, and there was a strip of about 1 to 2 feet of sand that was untouched by the machine. I began my search in the area he showed me which was smooth, but worked the untouched area as well. Low and behold, in that small section of untouched sand I found Eric’s ring. I be honest, it surprised the both of us. What a happy reunion.
