Three days ago Sue lost a very special piece of jewelry in her large front yard.
One day two after searching for several hours with no luck Sue purchased a used metal detector. However she soon discovered that the detector would not scan/read her matching earring. Luckily she was able to return it for a refund. More searching the front yard did not yield any results.
Day Three: A Google search led her to the Ringfinders website. Sue contacted me that afternoon, distraught and desperate on her 60th birthday. We quickly put together a search plan and I was able to arrive within about an hour.
The size of the lawn was intimidating but after reenacting the chain of events with Sue we were able to narrow it down to the two most probable locations. Several family members had helped Sue in the previous three days with no luck. Hours of looking on hands and knees by Sue and her family members did not turn up the precious earring. Using the Garrett AT Pro with 9×6″ search coil I was able to scan the other gold earring and obtain some valuable search data.
It ended up being a wonderful 60th birthday for Sue as I was able to retrieve her earring, within just a few minutes and just slightly outside the search zone that she and her family had concentrated on for three days. I could tell that Sue was very happy as the words, OMG (abbreviated) were all she could say for the first full minute. I can genuinely say that I am extremely glad to have been able to make Sue’s birthday a bit more happier.
A desperate Kissimmee Florida couple contacted me through the Ringfinder.com website. The man (whom I’ll refer to as Shaggy) and his lovely wife (who can only be nicknamed Velma) had been in their front yard the prior night enjoying the evening sunset when Shaggy’s ring flew off of his finger. Quickly grabbing flashlights they conducted a thorough search of the property. After two hours with no luck they called it quits for the night. Early the next morning they resumed their search on hands and knees, looking under each and every blade of grass. The ring, being platinum, had blended into the grass making it nearly invisible to the naked eye. After a few more hours of searching with no luck Shaggy and Velma were exhausted and getting desperate.
After many hours of searching Shaggy and Velma were tired and in serious need of some professional help. After a quick search on the internet led them to the Ringfinders website, they contacted me. Luckily the search location was not far and I was able to be on the scene within an hour. After a quick hello and a briefing on the case I noticed that Velma was wearing a platinum colored ring. I asked her if it was part of a matching set from Shaggy’s ring and she replied that it was. With her permission I scanned her ring with my metal detector and was able to gather some data including a search response tone and number value. Armed with this information I began my search.
I began a grid search of the front lawn, disregarding any deep targets as I knew that the ring would not be down in the soil. More than likely, it would be laying on the surface as it had only been less than 24 hours since it was dropped. Any shallow or surface tones were investigated as I couldn’t be 100% sure that the rings would match exactly in the same search values gathered earlier. Ring size, composition, and design were all unknown factors. Bits of aluminum building material were discovered, along with a few sheet metal screws. After 15 minutes of searching I heard one very distinct sound in my headphones. I looked down and after using the search coil to pinpoint the exact location my eyes focused on a dark object sitting in the grass! Could this be the missing ring?
I looked up and and smiled at the couple. They had been chattering with excitement through the entire search but paused to immediately focus on what I was doing. Slowly I reached down, picked up the object, and held it out to the couple. I had found the ring!
At first, Shaggy and Velma were speechless when they saw the platinum ring in the palm of my hand. As thought, the platinum color had helped it to blend into the grass making it extremely difficult to find. They excitedly expressed their disbelief that the ring had been practically right under their noses the whole time they were searching for it! Their excitement and relief quickly bubbled over and after a few photos, hugs, and high-fives we said our goodbyes. As I drove away, the last thing I saw was Shaggy and Velma, hugging each other in their front yard.

A young newlywed was on his honeymoon with his new bride of exactly two days. They spent their special day together fishing in a remote spot on the Indian River in Florida. While handling a slippery catch he watched as his ring first fall off of his hand, hit once on the rail, and then plop into the dark green ten foot deep water. His first instinct was to GPS his location. Feeling desperate and with no possibility of recovering it himself, he contacted me through the Ringfinders website. A successful dive recovery was made and the ring was returned to the grateful owner.
We called Gary to see if he could come out to look for a phone that we thought we accidentally buried in the front yard. Even though it was late in the afternoon, Gary was happy to come out the same day to our surprise. We appreciate his professionalism and timely response. My husband Matt and I are extremely grateful for this team for finding such an important ring for us. When Matt said he found someone to look for his ring I was extremely skeptical. Knowing the conditions of the canal I really felt this was a wasted effort. When Jerry Burbaugh came up with a ring on his finger we were stunned!! This canal has very high boat traffic and is literally dark brown water. Gary Penta was wonderful to work with in coordinating this effort. Jerry and Jacob Penta were awesome with their knowledge and abilities! You’ve made the start to our new year a happy one!!
