This short adventure started with a call from Nate. He stated he lost his Wedding ring in the sand at a private beach. He was sitting in a chair and noticed his ring missing. Nate was not available to meet me at the location but his Wife Erica was able to.

I meet Erica at the location she took me to the spot on the beach that Nate was sitting. I turned on the CTX3030 started to scan a circle around the chairs. After walking about 3 feet I got a nice solid 12.30 on the CTx3030. Sifted through the sand with my pinpointer and found the ring. It took about 30 seconds.

Ring and Pendant found in Higgins Lake, Michigan with a metal detector

This call started over text. I get a text at 8:00 pm « I need your help I found you on google » « Ur a ring finder right » « you can like find rings in water »?

This went on for 30 minutes then I got impatient and called the number. I got no answer so I texted « why are you not answering the phone if you need help ». Then get a response, I’m 15 turning 16 tomorrow I thought you would want to talk to an adult. Yes,Yes,Yes I would love to talk to an adult. Then Marissa texted her mothers phone number to me. I called Melissa and got the details of what had happened. Marissa was trying to pull herself up on a dock and the necklace she was wearing got caught and broke. The silver pendant and a ring she inherited from a close uncle fell in the water below. Marissa was devastated thinking she lost the ring for ever. By this time it was 9:00 pm so I told Melissa we needed to wait till the following morning to recover the ring and pendant in the daylight. They were 1 hour travel from me and it was getting dark fast. I asked Melissa to text me an address to the house.

I waited 1/2 hour for the address and it was not coming. I texted Melissa to remind her about the address. I needed it before I went to bed to see where they were located. She said Marissa was having a very hard time and could not settle down. I told Melissa I could talk to her I have 17 and 15 year old girls. She said that would be great she is trying to get ready for Marissa’s birthday the next day. I called Marissa with my magical powers. When I start talking about metal detectors and sand scoops girls/women just fall asleep. I did such an good job after I found the pendant and ring Melissa could not wake Marissa up. She about had to pry her out of bed with a crow bar. I showed Marissa the ring and pendant and she was very happy to get them back. She said it helped me talking to her the night before and explaining they were not gone I could find them.

Lost Wedding ring found in the snow at the Grand Traverse Academy in Traverse City Michigan with a metal detector

I received a call from Anthony’s wife that he had lost his Wedding ring at work. I met Anthony about an hour later and found out what had happened. He had children outside on a nature walk at the school he works at. He felt his ring slip off his finder but could not concentrate on looking for it due to the children he had to keep an eye on. He came back after work and walked the area but could not locate the ring. The snow was about 5 inches deep in the area Anthony took me to. I started a grid pattern and walked about 8 feet and found the ring. It was stuck in the side of one of the footprints from them walking in the area earlier. I always like the easy short hunts.

Lost ring found in the snow in Traverse City, Mi

  • from Traverse City (Michigan, United States)

I got a call from Heather on a lost ring lost in the snow at a local law office. Heather was asking if I could help before a big snowstorm hits in a couple hours. Ended up driving to the law office to do the search. I asked the usual questions. What happened and what is the ring made of. She was closing the door on the car in cold weather and the ring went flying. Second question is what is the ring made of. Her reply was silver with 2 diamonds and a pearl.

She took me out to the search area in the parking lot. She had her car parked over the area so nobody would park in that area. The search area was about 10 feet by 10 feet. I scanned the area with the CTX3030 and got no silver signals. I had one nice gold signal, so, I went back to it and found the ring. I went inside to give her the ring and said we have one small problem. Your ring is not silver is 10k white gold. The whole office cheered that I had found the ring before the storm. I tried to get a picture of her with the ring  but she refused. After some hard negotiating at the law office, I got a picture of her hand holding the ring.

Child’s retainer found at the Traverse City East Middle School

  • from Traverse City (Michigan, United States)

I received a call from Julia asking if a metal detector would be able to find a child’s retainer. I have never had a call for a retainer before so I had no idea. Then she asked about her purchasing a metal detector in town. I told her not to waste her money to purchase a detector I would be happy to come help. I got on location and found we had about 20 trash bags to search through. I scanned the first bag and found out really quick the detectors are worthless. The bag is full of aluminum foil from the different foods like applesauce. I gave her the bad news and said the only way is going to dig in one bag at a time. Julia was gong through the bags first then I would double check the bag she just went through. I got lucky and found the retainer in the third bag. She was extremely happy we found the retainer and not having to purchase a new one.

Gold Wedding band found at the Torch Lake Sandbar with a metal detector. Torch lake Mi

I got a call from Dave stating he lost his Wedding ring on the Torch Lake sandbar. Torch Lake sandbar is the summer party spot for boats in Northern Michigan. Dave was throwing a football with friends and the ring went flying. He said he saw the ring on the lake bottom. Went to grab it and missed then the sediment covered the ring. Then they could not see it any more.  He and his friends searched for the ring Saturday and Sunday. They could not locate the ring in the sand. On Sunday they talked to a Antrim County Sheriffs deputy and he googled ring finder and my blog post came up.  We agreed to meet at 1:00 on Sunday to do the search. It was raining and thundering when we walked out to the location. Dave’s friend had put a cinder block in the location the ring was lost. I walked about 6 feet and found the ring. We packed up and got out of there before the storm got any worse. No body brought phones because the rain, so Dave send me a couple pictures after he got back home.

I would like to thank the Antrim County Sheriffs Deputy for the referral.

Lost 18 kt gold ring from Italy found in Traverse City, Mi at the Grand Traverse Commons with a metal detector

I received a call on Wednesday night about 6:00 pm from Allison about her husband Domenicks lost wedding band. The ring is 18 kt Gold that Domenicks Grandmother bought in Italy. They made a day trip to Traverse City, Mi to visit the Grand Traverse Commons. The Grand Traverse Commons are the old Traverse City State Hospital that opened in November of 1885. Due to modern medicine the Hospital closed in 1989. The ability to treat mental patients with pills was the demise of the hospital. Now renovated and occupied with a mix of residential, retail, restaurants, an event venue, Cordia, a senior residential community, and an ever increasing number of businesses and entrepreneurs.

So, back to the ring find. I went Wednesday night from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm and did not find the ring. On the picture below, I searched the green shaded area. Allison had told me the only thing she did was go from the car to the tree to pick up leaves. The ring was in an upper pocket of her shirt because Domineck was throwing a ball further out in the field. She though the ring fell out of her pocket when she bent over to pick up the leaves. She was not sure of exactly where the ring was lost, because they were at other places in town also. She did not realize the ring was missing till almost back home. A 3 hour drive from Traverse City. I could not go back till Sunday, they had a outside wedding in the area Saturday. Sunday morning I put the 17 inch coil on the Ctx3030 and was going to grid search a very large area. Her statement about Domenick throwing ball out in the field stuck with me. So, after about 50 foil signals, I was checking another and moved my coil to the side and saw the ring. I was in disbelief and just stared at it for about 10 seconds. For people who do not detect foil sounds just like a gold ring. The ring was in the field about 40 feet past the tree on the opposite side of the parking lot. I texted Allison right away with the good news. She said I made her summer. On Monday morning, I shipped the ring overnight back to them.

Lost Wedding ring found at Glen Arbor Beach Glen Arbor, Michigan

  • from Traverse City (Michigan, United States)

I received an email from Mary stating her husband lost his wedding ring at the beach in Glen Arbor. I had Mary call me to set up a time to search for his ring after I got out of work. I drove the hour up to Glen Arbor and met Josh. Josh took me to the spot they were set up the day before. I could tell Josh was heartbroken that the ring was missing. He said they have been married 6 years and he did not want a replacement ring, he wanted the original back. I started the search and got an immediate 12:06 on the CTX3030. A good ring number but also a pull tab number. The depth meter was showing 6 inches deep. I got my pin pointer out and realized I forgot to put a new battery in it. So, I pinpointed with the CTX3030 then started digging by hand. I dug down to the wet sand and got the signal out of the hole pinpointed again and found the ring. Josh was so grateful to get his ring back he must have thanked me 20 times. I was very happy to help get his original ring back and appreciate the reward.
